Where the Pages Bleed: A Southern Gothic Romance

Rate this book
Nothing brings two people together like murder, a little friendly dismemberment, and a lifetime of repressed desire.

Delilah Jessup doesn’t trust easily. She’s got a cat, a collection of haunted books, and a long history of men who think they can own her. And when her past finally catches up to her in the form of a twice-killed ex, there’s only one person she can call.

Whit Ward is chaos incarnate. Tattooed, emotionally avoidant, and devastatingly hot, he’s been in love with Delilah since she kicked his bully’s ass in the third grade.

Now she’s sleeping in his bed. Pretending to be his girlfriend. Asking him to help her dismember and bury a body.

You know...normal friend stuff.

But when the body refuses to stay buried—and the fake dating transforms into a real situationship—Whit and Delilah are forced to face the truth.

The past isn’t done with her. The dead don’t rest easy. And you can only spend so long pretending you’re not in love.

A Southern romance with spirits, spells, and values in the right damn place, GOSPELS & GRIMOIRES is perfect for fans of THE EX HEX and PRACTICAL MAGIC—but sexier, sharper, and proudly sinful.

Hauntingly Beautiful and Full of Heart

Where the Pages Bleed is a story that lingers like a summer night in the Deep South — warm, a little heavy with mystery, and tinged with something beautifully bittersweet.

Eden Audley and Chloe Parker have crafted a Southern Gothic romance that feels like a love letter to both the genre and its readers. The prose is lyrical without being overdone, and the setting is so vividly drawn that you can practically feel the humidity clinging to your skin and hear the creak of old floorboards beneath your feet.

The romance at the heart of the story is tender and aching in all the right ways. It's not a whirlwind, but something slower and deeper — the kind of connection that grows in the quiet moments and shared silences. The characters are complex, flawed, and human, and I truly cared about their journeys, both individually and together.

The gothic elements are subtle but effective — enough to give the story that eerie edge, like a ghost whispering through the pages. There’s a beautiful balance of love, grief, healing, and the weight of the past that makes this more than just a romance; it’s a story about finding hope in haunted places.

I’m giving it four stars only because there were a few pacing moments that felt just a touch slow — but honestly, it fits the dreamy, atmospheric vibe of the book. This isn’t a story to rush through. It’s one to savor.

If you love romance with a touch of melancholy, rich Southern atmosphere, and a love story that feels both haunted and healing, Where the Pages Bleed is a book worth falling into.

What are best friends for if they won’t help to bury a dead(?) body.

Delilah Jessup grew up in the small down of Willow Grove, Georgia, a town where magic is alive. Whit Ward is Delilah’s best friend and has been in love with her forever, or at least it started when they were in the third grade and she beat up his bully, but it was sealed by their first kiss when they were thirteen years old. When a man from her past comes a calling, it will be Whit who she calls to help her bury the body. Unfortunately, old magic doesn’t stay buried, but Delilah and Whit will finally figure out that they are meant to be together forever.
I just love these characters. They are so realistically complex and engaging that I couldn't put this book down. Their dialogue is fast-paced and riveting with all its whit and sometimes sarcastic banter. Magic and mayhem and bodies that refuse to stay dead with steamy sexual interludes, unexpected twist in the plot, and a happily ever after. I loved this book and look forward to the next book in this fantastic series.

Where the Pages Bleed is by far the best book in the Gospels & Grimoires series. It tells the story of Whit and Delilah, from how Whit first fell in love to how he's been the shoulder she's needed through everything to Delilah finally opening up to Whit in all the ways that count.

This book is a twisted, spooky love story that you won't be able to put down. The opening scene of Delilah's ex being dead on the floor and her nonchalance is the ultimate attention grab. The moment Whit steps into the scene you can taste the smouldering tension between them and when they ignite the sparks fly. For a book with only two characters for 90% of it, this is phenomenal. Perfect read for spooky season with zombie exes, ritual killings, ghosts, witches, and New Orleans voodoo vibes.

Each book gets better and better. This series will definitely be on my rereading list. I love that they loved each other from the beginning but that they each had their own issues to work thru knowing that they would end up together in the end. Plus the creepy ex monster factor is always a plus. And the spice is always good. This is a must read. Can’t wait for the next book to be available.

A sweet, steamy and spooky romance. We have Whit and Delilah's story, best friends who were so engaging and made a great couple as they faked a relationship to cover for the fact she'd killed her ex again and had to bury the body. A beautiful story full of magic, humour and love.

The Ward brothers have a hold on me like nothing I have read in a long time.

These books are seeped in strong women, supportive men, the magic of small towns, history, heart break, and family. There is a love that encompasses the whole family so deeply you can feel it come through the pages.

I knew Delilah and Whit’s story was going to be a favorite from the build up in the other books. Best friends since they were little always in trouble together, always together. Everyone knows Ward has always loved her, except Delilah. They are so close, but also Delilah keeps her distance, not touching Whit or allowing herself to be touch by him unless she was drunk and lets her guard down.

Whit is a flirt, he does do relationships but isn’t usually alone … yet he is always there at the drop of a hat when Delilah needs him. She’s his best friend, of course he’s always there when she needs him.

When she calls in the middle of the night and tells him to bring a crowbar and come to her house because she’s killed a man (for the second time) he shows up and damned if she wasn’t kidding!

I received this book as an ARC, this is my honest review. All of the Ward brothers fall first, fast, and hard. Delilah and Whit are no different it just happened when they were kids. You need to start at the beginning of the series for these (in my opinion) and they are absolutely worth it!

Looking forward to book 5, I cannot wait to see how the story wraps up and the youngest Ward brother gets his story!
