For Jack and Gareth, family is everything. But justice is a close second.
A death from natural causes that might just be murder.
A dance coach with wandering hands.
Holiday jobs, birthday party plans, and a request for help that calls Jack to Tokyo.
Between family, work, and their freelance jobs Jack and Gareth’s summer leaves little room for private time. At least their personal issues are solved. Or so they think until a threat to their family tests all their certainties once more.
For fans of found family, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and stories where justice is never simple, A Simple Mistake delivers a powerful exploration of resilience, loyalty, and the choices that shape us. Will Jack and Gareth’s family emerge stronger, or will the fractures of the past finally tear them apart? Discover the answer in A Simple Mistake
Jackie Keswick writes a mix of suspense, action adventure, fantasy and magical realism. She loves stories with layers, plots with twists and characters with hidden depths. She adores friends to lovers stories, tales of unexpected reunions and second chances, and men who write their own rules. She blogs about English history and food, has a thing for green eyes, and is a great believer in making up soundtracks for everything, including her characters and the cat.
I love reading any story with Jack and Gareth and Daniel and Nico and this story was very satisfying. I was impressed how the mystery about Miss MacTavish was solved and that it was Nico and Daniel who provided needed clues. The break-in at the house was terrifying and the boys were so brave and even though Daniel was terrified he listened to Nico and they used the escape route and were safe on the roof. Aidan and Gareth were fantastic in taking the villains down. It was great that the creepy dance teacher who had groped both the boys and girls in class was brought down when Daniel recognized a phrase that Pavel used that Manville also used. I understood Gareth's feelings of failure and why he went to the club and started a fight and how Rio got him out of there before he really got into trouble. I hope there will be more stories about this wonderful family and friends.
I adore Jack and Gareth, and this wonderful story shows how far they've come. Not only are they now a devoted couple but they are also foster parents to two teenaged boys.
A Simple Mistake reflects this transition, with both men juggling their main jobs, side hustles and the minutiae of family life. I thoroughly enjoyed how Jackie skilfully brought each plot strand together to make a satisfying whole, while further developing the MCs and their family and close friends. A truly absorbing read.
