Eve Grimsbane came to Harmon Hill to disappear. After her life spectacularly imploded, this quiet city seemed perfect for starting over.
She was wrong. So very wrong.
One night, Eve stops a crime and destroys what looks like an ordinary object. The moment it shatters, something awakens inside her—a power she definitely didn't order from the universe's twisted catalog of complications.
Suddenly, cursed artifacts are surfacing all over town, pulsing with malevolent energy only she can sense. The local police think she's connected to the escalating chaos—and they're not wrong. Somewhere in the shadows, a sinister force is turning her quiet refuge into a supernatural nightmare.
Eve never believed in magic. Now she's at the center of it, and the only thing standing between Harmon Hill and destruction is someone who used to think her horoscope was the height of supernatural concern.
In a world where your grandmother's teapot might be plotting world domination, Eve's fresh start has become a fight for survival—and running away isn't an option this time.
Perfect for readers who love urban fantasy with bite and heroines who discover that sometimes the best way forward is to stop running and start hexing.
"It was one of the more pleasantly ordinary evenings I’d had in a long time." - when an urban fantasy story ends like that, it's a good sign there's been a lot of thrills and action leading up to that conclusion.
Magic, curs€s and d€mons all come together in Secret Hex to bring suspense and build the tension, culminating nicely in a f!ght scene that kept my pulse racing. It was a spectacular confrontation between pro- and antagonists!
There's a lot of mystery in Secret Hex. More so than I expected but it made for a wonderfully suspenseful read. Eve, the FMC, is a walking enigma. Her past is often alluded to but never explained - " 'Glad to see you still have a backbone hidden there among all that mystery.' ". Other main characters are also reluctant to explain themselves. I eventually felt I had a solid foundation for this story though and felt satisfied with what was on page and what was left in the past. That past and the present of this story provide a lovely teasing impetus for book 2, with threads left dangling between several characters to drive anticipation.
I'm looking forward to spending more time with these characters, to see if there are more revelations, and how they take what they've learned here to use as protection and w€apons for the future - because it looks like a troubled one!!
