A wonderful look back at an American institution - The American Drive In Theater, from it's inception to it's boom years and to it's decline...and eventual rebirth.

Coming of age right at the end of the Drive In Movie era, this book was very interesting to me because I always thought the whole car and movie thing was so Americana. With amazing photographs and illustrations, the authors do a great job of going chapter through chapter and explaining how drive in's came to be, how they improved, and how they adapted or died. A great coffee table sized book for anyone interested in looking back at "better" times.

As noted, the format and layout drive me a little crazy, and he tends to beat you over the head with some information. I love the subject matter, so I'll overlook most of it — and there's a reference to Buddy Holly on the very last page!

Very interesting and nostalgiac look at the era of drive-in movies, marred only by a couple of errors in chronology that I noticed (and of course can't remember while typing this). I'd like to see an updated edition, and of course I'd like to go to a drive-in now. :)

A sweet, nostalgia-filled book that will make you wish drive-ins were still in fashion.

this was a fun book to read and relive the nostalgia of those old venues. Learned alot about them that I didn't know.
