Elmer, the playful pachyderm with the psychedelic skin, returns in this new adventure. Elmer is bored, so with the help of his friend, he comes up with the perfect practical joke to brighten the day.
David McKee was a British writer and illustrator, chiefly of children's books and animations. He also used the pseudonym Violet Easton. He is frequently referenced as David (John) McKee. He has been commended for his gentle, playful but insightful stories.
For his contribution as a children's illustrator he was UK nominee for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2006.
Another lovely Elmer board book. In this adventure Elmer paints himself grey to trick the other elephants and in a fun role reversal they paint themselves patchwork! A good fun read with colourful illustrations.
Elmer the patchwork elephant is at it again, playing jokes on the other elephants. Every year on Elmer's day, Elmer paints himself gray while all the other elephants paint themselves all sorts of colors. To liven things up this year, Elmer decides that he and Harold should paint all the other elephants into a patchwork design. The next morning there are so many Elmers that no one knows which one is the real one. They all run into the water and all their paint falls off. All of the elephants are now gray. It seems that Elmer has lost his color! "Elmer" tells everyone that he is really happy that his is now like all the others. The others disagree and so "Elmer" decides to go back into the water. He tells the other elephants that maybe the paint will bring his patchwork back. "Elmer" jumps in and then emerges on the other side patchwork intact. The other elephants are happy. When another elephant emerges, they realize that the "Elmer" was none other than Harold and that Elmer and Harold just played a trick on them. They all jump back into the water and have a water spraying trunk celebration. The story is cute and the drawings are very nice as well.

Everything is gearing up for the annual Elmer's Day Parade, where the other elephants paint themselves brightly and he paints himself grey. Being a bit of a scamp, he decides that things need to be livened up, so he plots and plans, then sets about putting a smile on everyone's faces.
As with the other Elmer books, Elmer Again is a fun little tale of a sweet, cheeky and playful elephant. The stories are much-loved classics for a reason, and this ticks all the right boxes as usual. There's a direct and engaging plot, simple yet enticing writing, and the familiar bright and happy illustrations.
This book can be used to help ease or highlight minor emotional difficulties a child maybe having within the class. A child who believes that they are different from the rest of the class could use this book as comfort and that looking different is not always a bad thing and could be a good thing.
Elmer has done it again!!! He has pranked the elephants better than he's ever pranked them before. Hahaha Will they ever figure out his little trick? Definitely worth more than just a passing glance. =)
Fantastic addition to the Elmer collection. Elmer the patchwork elephant is up to his usual tricks and paints himself grey whilst all the other elephants celebrate his differences by painting themselves many different colours but this year Elmer paints them patchwork. The next morning there are so many Elmers that no one knows which is the real one and they use the water to try and solve the mystery. However, Elmer had another trick up his sleeve. Year 1 really enjoy the Elmer series and loved predicting what was going to happen next in this story and adding their interpretations from the images.
Genre: Fiction Grades: K-2 Even though I've been a huge ELMER fan for years, I had never actually sat down to read ELMER! Being so utterly captivated by the PICTURES, I never made it to the words. When I finally took the time to read "Elmer Again," I braced myself for disappointment. The words couldn't possibly be as delightful as the illustrations!??? Well, I was pleasantly surprised; they were indeed as lovely! I loved the timeless message that being different is OKAY! Elmer brings the celebration to being unique! Hooray!!
I’ve always loved Elmer, and *Elmer Again* didn’t disappoint. David McKee really knows how to bring this colourful, cheerful elephant to life in a way that feels so warm and familiar. The story is gentle but full of charm, and it’s perfect for sharing with little ones — they’ll love the vibrant illustrations and the fun, easy-to-follow tale. It’s a lovely reminder about being yourself and celebrating what makes you unique. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet, uplifting read with a bit of British flair. Five stars from me!

Elmer plays a practical joke on the other elephants in the herd because he's bored. His joke is actually 2 parts! He is very pleased that he tricked the others elephants. It was a little odd that the elephants didn't know who they were because of the paint, "Are you Elmer? I don't know", the elephants answered. "I might be today, but I'm sure I wasn't yesterday." (p.12) I guess a joke is a joke!

It's Elmer day and all the other elephants are dressing up like Elmer. He wants to make it differnt this year. What joke can he pull off? Preschool and up
This is a funny and colorful story for children. I've heard of the book Elmer by David McKee, but now I discover there's a whole series of books featuring this patchwork elephant. We enjoyed reading this book together and we will certainly look for more books featuring Elmer at our local library.
I always laugh whenever I read this book. It makes you happy. Well the main character in this book is Elmer, he is very colorful unlike the other GREY elephants!
Elmer the elephant is bright-colored patchwork allover and everyone loves his patches, but right now Elmer is bored. Only a good joke will save the day.

Elmer and a friend play a joke on the other elephants. Once again, they celebrate the diversity of Elmer's colors and Elmer's humor and creativity offer a message for readers.
