I didn't read the first book of this set (The Beauty Bride), as I already read it when I downloaded it as a freebie. The first book was interesting enough for me to buy the boxed set though, something that doesn't happen often :-)
This was a great series! I loved the humor and that it had fae in it. I loved the different way the fae were entwined in each book and even more in the next series. This is certainly one you won't want to miss! I think I will have to read them all again in a few months.
This is a great series if you like historical romance. This follows the life of a family of 8 siblings in Scotland in the 1400s and their quest for true love.
It's always best to buy the set especially if you can't wait to read the next book. This was a well written set of books. These are the books you lose sleep over because you can't bear to stop reading! I was terribly disappointed to come to the end of the set although I was quite happy to find out what happened to Rosamunde as her disappearance in one of the books left quite the mystery. The stories are about a family of siblings who have been recently orphaned. They are mostly grown, the youngest one being 12 years of age. The brother, Alexander, has inherited the title and has found that the coffers are empty leaving him feeling rather desperate. He is trying to marry off the oldest sister to better the situation for the castle and those that live in it. Thus the first book in the series is the struggle of Madeline against being married off. Alexander's solution is quite shocking and as a female I was outraged, but eventually it all comes right in the end. Naturally the second book is his attempt to marry off the next eldest sister, Vivienne. He resorts to trickery, and again his solution is outrageous. By the end of the second book, I have taken a disliking to Alexander but book three finds some retribution for Madeline & Vivienne as they set him up for marriage. This book is full of surprises and has a very interesting ending. Then last there is the novelette about Rosamunde's destiny. Rosamunde is the beloved aunt who makes her first appearance in Madeline's story along with a spriggen (tiny fairy) who hates her. Ah the joys of unexpected events. Definitely a 'not to miss' set of books.
This was a well-written, enjoyable series. Set in medieval Scotland, the Laird of Kinfairlie has inherited the estate and he needs to find marriages for his sisters, the Jewels of Kinfairlie, immediately. Lady Madeline's hand has been sold in an auction. She runs away, and Rhys FitzHenry pursues her, then woos her with fascinating stories. Vivienne believes in true love, and when she hears a story of the secret room in their estate, she knows it is her fate to meet her her destiny there. The next morning she is shocked to find herself married to Erik Sinclair of Blackleith, who plans to use her to regain his legacy. They gradually get to know each other and delve beneath the surface to the inner selves that both keep hidden... The sisters turn the tables on the Laird, and set him up with the Lady Eleanor, who has learned from experience that she is only valued for her fortune. Alexander doesn't know about her fortune, and what he sees in her is their shared passion, her wisdom and the desire to court her smile. In The Ballad of Rosumande, the pirate queen Rosamunde is trapped in the land of Fairie and can only be freed by true love. Padraig, a former member of her crew, has been in love with Rosamunde for many years, and when he hears she has been captured by the Fey he sets out to free her. I loved these books!
