Jane has multiple strikes against her: She’s fat. She’s divorced. She’s over forty. She has enough strikes against her to make every man run, strikes that have made every man run, except one: the one she knows she shouldn’t have.
Sergeant Brad Wilcox’s fourth deployment in ten years is coming to an end. It’s time for him to decide his future. In truth, he knows what he wants; he wants Jane, but she’s sidestepped his every forward word.
With Jane’s daughter in her first year at college, and unable to make it home for Christmas, Sergeant Wilcox rolls the dice and shows up at her doorstep. Jane has carefully refuted his every flirtation via letter, but can she refuse the soldier face to face?
One thing is for certain: there will never be another Christmas like this one.
I was born and raised in Charleston, SC, but now live in the hottest place on earth: Orlando, FL. I have three beautiful children who keep me running non-stop. When I'm not juggling life and kids, you'll find me huddled away somewhere writing my next book or happily reading someone else's. Like most authors I've come across, I'm a coffee addict, own far too many books than I can fit on my shelves, and I go to work in my pajamas a lot.
This was one of the short stories in One Letter and they are all really good. This was a reverse (?) age gap and it was just so sweet. I loved the letters, how Brad was all-in with his feelings, and was determined to win Jane over. I'll definitely be re-reading this when I want a quick but heartfelt read. I only wish this was longer.
Like here, where he's reassuring us that she's fat and that's attractive, but also she's not as fat as he expected and that's a relief?:
"Typically, women ended up being bigger and less attractive than their pictures portrayed, but, with Jane, it was the opposite. She was still extra curvy, but seemed slightly thinner, more defined than before, in her mid-section, and far more beautiful"
And what even was this, yuck: "There wasn’t a downside to the woman. She cooked, she cleaned, she was independent, had a great job, wasn’t a stage five clinger, and her shapely figure was the icing on the cake. She knew how to dress them and how to work them."
Here is another short review for this author, who I wish would make her stories longer, as I have stated in the other two reviews, but it is what it is.
Overall, I really liked this story. I think this one was my favorite of the three that I read from Christin Lovell. I really liked the military theme of the book and I was interested to learn more about Brad's experience overseas. Jane seemed like a very sweet woman, who had kind of a rough go of it in the love department. Her ex-husband was a jerk with a capital J and I was glad she moved on from him. Jane is definitely a better woman than me because when she described going to dinner with her recently graduated daughter, ex-husband and the mistress, now the "apologetic" new wife, I was screaming to myself "Uh uh , wouldn't be me!" My ex and his new mistress/wife could never speak to me ever again, like ever!
Anyway, Jane meets Brad and sparks fly and even though she is a little on the cougar side of things in this relationship, Brad doesn't care and Jane learned not to care, as she should have. Both of these people needed a little love and happiness and they were able to bring those qualities and then some out in each other and I think that is a beautiful thing and nothing to be ashamed about.
As I stated before, I wish this story was longer, like full length novel long because I feel that there was a lot to explore with both characters and I was intrigued to know more and I had some questions of my own that I wanted answered. However, for a shorter read I felt that the author packed in as much as she could to make a cohesive short story. Overall, a nice little read, give it a go.
Jane Dubreaux was a mother of one. She was curvy and very beautiful. Her daughter was going away to college and she did not know how to handle being without her daughter. She had started writing a letter to a soldier she never met. It was supposed to be friendship and support. What she never dreamed was love.
There was a huge age difference between Sergeant Brad Wilcox and Jane Dubreaux. She was defiantly the cougar in this relationship. Jane had a hard time getting past the age and the fact that the man she divorced had cheated on her. She felt that one day Brad would regret being with an older woman.
Brad knew one thing, he wanted Jane, well that and he was going to make her his. He was not sure how but he was going to win her heart. All he knew was to be patient and hope she would come around.
This was a sweet story of how just simple letters turned into so much more. No matter how much Brad flirted with Jane in the letters she would not flirt back. He knew the only way to win her was to show up in person. WOW, was a surprise that must have been to see such a sexy man on your door step. Yum…
This is so worth a read. I am a huge fan of this series that Christin has written everyone of them just makes me anxious to read the next one she will put out. This is a short story about Brad and Jane. Jane is a divorced woman who is not the ideal small woman some men want so when she starts writing back and forth to Brad she figures this is safe because he can not see her. She eventually sends him a pic and he is hooked. Brad is looking for a woman that he can trust that will be faithful and will accept him for who he is unconditionally. With the letters that they trade back and forth they both get to know one another on a deeper level but will this be enough to deal with each of their insecurities.
I can not wait for you to read this book it is a definite must read. It is short so it will make for a great quick read. pick up your copy today you will not be disappointed.
Jane is an older woman who is divorced and a mom. She writes to a military person, Brad. He writes back and the letters get longer and more personal. Brad keeps getting shot down when he flirts and want to see Jane. He is 28 and she is scared to death he will have regrets and puts him off.
Brad shows up on Jane's doorstep and things start to heat up. He showers he with love and even gets to now her college daughter. He is what Jane needs.
Seriously!! You could feel the emotions coming off of the page. I just wanted to high five Brad and tell him you're the man. There are men out there worth knowing and men that need a warning sign. Jane did a good thing by communicating and understanding where her insecurities stemmed from. This should be a how to guide in understanding men, women and our complicating relationships.
I truly love Christmas romance stories but you throw in a woman with 'real curves' and a military man who loves ALL of them and I am In Love. Nothing about this story is incomplete except if it would only happen to me! You won't regret this purchase!
Romantic and cute story about an older woman who finds love with a younger man. I would've liked to have seen the reaction by her jerk of an ex husband upon meeting her new one. Classic.
It was short but I loved the woman being a truly curvy woman. I loved how the friendship between brad and Jane grew and became a lasting love. Such an amazing story that can give hope to us curvy women.
From the beginning letters between Jane and Brad, through their hot and steamy meeting, to the epilogue set in the future, this is a sweet read. I recommend it to you.
As a BBW I love a good book with a strong BBW in it. And this one has. A younger man older woman love story that makes the BBW in me wish for a man like this one. Great story.
