Two years after the zombie apocalypse destroyed the world, Xan lives with his family in one of the few settlements of survivors. Protected by moats and linked by convoys ferrying goods, the settlements are the only safe places to be since zombies will not cross water.
Abducted one night, Xan is thrown in the back of a truck and driven out of the settlement. His captors intend to use him as zombie bait to let the convoy pass through. But Xan is determined to get home . . . any way he can.

Poignant isn't usually a word I think about when describing a zombie novel, but it works for Bait. There were several heart tugging moments, and the ending was exactly what I wanted when I started reading. Everything came full circle, in a way, and those few times when I thought the story was meandering a bit actually worked to tie into the ending.
Xan is a school teacher living in an isolated town two years after a zombie apocalypse. The story starts with Xan and his girlfriend waiting for news about their year old son who is undergoing heart surgery. Everything that happens in these first scenes will be important to the rest of the story.
I was intrigued by how these zombies came about, how Xan survived, and how he managed to cope with what had happened to him. No matter what, he maintained his humanity, and that contrasted strongly against some other characters.
The plot was suspenseful, and I found myself not being able to put the book down until I knew what happened next. There were one or two small things that were predicable, but how those things turned out left me satisfied. The writing is good! Smooth, descriptive without being purple, kept me immersed, and, like I said, poignant.
This book was extremely hard to put down. It's written in such a way that you just can't stop reading. It's one of the few that puts you right in the midst of chaos. Very well written, would make a great movie .
The time is post apocalyptic. Mankind has taken a giant hit , given by a brilliant but twisted scientist that had problems mentally. Problems that pushed him to find a disease that caused what we have come to know as ZOMBIES! Other scientists pushed to find a cure for the disease that all but ERADICATED MANKIND .. AND A CURE WAS FOUND. However, it worked only on the recently turned. Alexander , or XAN as he is called is one of the survivors and this is his story. GRAPHIC, MOVING , THRILLING it is both the saddest and happiest of stories. THE STORY OF A ZOMBIE WHO SURVIVES AND HIS TALE OF CONTINUING STRUGGLES AND DANGERS. A story you don't want to miss. I RECOMMEND.
I have read a few zombie stories and thought this one was really good. It was a different premise and the characters were well thought out. I would recommend the author.
