The plot of Self Destruct is what held the book together for me. It was an interesting premise and story line. Aiden and Becca were a unique couple whose relationship progressed very quickly. The progression felt natural and I was right there with the characters and the feelings they had. However, the writing was very choppy and the dialogue at many times was hard to follow. I had to re-read so I could understand who was saying what. I appreciated the story and the depth of the plot.

I absolutely loved Aiden and Becca!

Self Destruct is obviously a dual POV from Becca and Aiden. They were a unique and lovable couple but I feel like it didn't progress realistically. It kind of felt a little rushed or insta-y to me.. but again, it could just be me that felt this way.

Becca is haunted by her past. She is determined that she is broken, damage, and unworthy of love. I sort of rolled my eyes while I wrote that because I honestly would never think that about anyone.. but then again I didn't grow up with her childhood. Luckily for her and myself, she is proven wrong once Aiden comes into her life. He bears a burden of his past and is also hopeful that Becca would ease his pain. They definitely help each other get over their insecurities - which of course I was a huge fan of.

The overall flow of the story was nicely paced but the writing was a bit choppy. This lead to me re-reading some chapters or scenes to see if I fully understood what was happening the first time. I mostly did but for this book it was nice to do a double check.

Besides the romance, there were a few good twists thrown in. Even though the twists were beyond predictable they did make the book a bit more intriguing. Then there was glorious smut and amazing chemistry as well.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I wish that the writing was a little better but I still ended up liking the book.

This was a fast pace fall in love book, which was kinda fun. But the drama. Drama on top of drama. No one has that much drama.

4.5 Stars!!!

Self Destruct is book one in the Destroy Series. Here we’re taken through Becca and Aiden’s one hell of a journey. Trust me, this book is anything but boring! The plot is full of twists, turns, and secrets!!! I seriously did not see a lot of the twists coming, which was great because it kept me at the edge of my seat.
“I was on a path to self-destruct, but it was all I knew.”

Becca had a traumatizing past and a very bad coping mechanism. What she was doing to hide her pain, to make herself forget, was really only breaking her even more emotionally. Until she met Aiden.
“I’ve got you. If you fall I’ll pick you up. If you break I’ll hold you together. And if you need to cry, I’ll lend you my shoulder.” – Aiden

Now, this guy made me swoon more times that I care to admit. Aiden was sexy, protective, alpha male-like, smart, and downright dreamy. I completely understood why Becca fell in love with him! Who wouldn’t? Okay, so anyway, ever since meeting, Aiden and Becca hit it off. They got together rather quickly and their relationship developed even quicker. This is something that ALL the characters talk about during the book. It’s what worried Becca’s friends (Toni and Kate) since they feared it was another one of Becca’s coping mechanisms. But they were all wrong. Aiden and Becca might’ve had a lightning speed relationship, but their feelings were genuine and ran deep.
“Red, I’m not going to try and fix you, but I’ll help hold you together while you fix yourself. I need you to believe me when I tell you this, I’m not going anywhere.”

They were honestly, perfect for each other. Aiden too had a past, you see. One full of regret and guilt. Enter Vanessa, Aiden’s ex-girlfriend and Aidan’s Mom -- Satan’s spawn. GRRR! I loathed them!! OMG! They were just so mean, cruel and CRAZY! Sheesh!! They definitely kept things interesting, though. That’s for sure. Also, we had Nick, Aiden’s “friend”. I really, really disliked him, but I also felt bad for him. I’m not saying what he did is excusable because it sure as hell isn’t, BUT, I don’t know…I just felt bad for him. I’m a sucker, I know.
“You have made me feel like I’m living again and not just surviving.” – Aiden

A LOT of things happened throughout the plot, and I loved them all. I really like being surprised with twists in books, so this was a really big plus for me. I was honestly hooked from beginning to end. The characters were very well developed and the dialogue flowed smoothly, naturally. My only issue with this book was that sometimes I had to go back and re-read certain sentences to completely understand what was being said. This threw me off a few times, but I enjoyed the story so much, that it never even got close to it being a deal breaker. I just thought I’d mention it.

The ending was fantastic! Loved it!!! I was grinning like an idiot and my heart was extremely happy. I can’t wait to see where this series will take us next. If you love a hot romance with an angst-driven plot full of little twists, then this is the book for you!

The story starts out quickly and continues with the same pace through the book. A lot of things happen in this book, things happen one after the other and I enjoyed them all. It was a nice pace, you didn’t have any dull moments. Every action held its purpose in this story.
I was really surprised with the twists in the story, some things I saw coming, some were a bit predictable but still as enjoyable. All those twists kept you on your toes which was really nice. Lots of ups and downs, steamy sex and family betrayal wrap up this very nice story. Even if some events were predictable, you were still surprised when they happened and how they took place. I was hooked from the beginning.
The characters were nicely developed, you were right there with them which is a huge plus for me. My main complaint is that the dialogues were a bit choppy here and there and a bit confusing as to who said what. I loved the snarky and snappy comments. I found myself laughing along with the characters. The second characters are as loveable as the main ones and you want to know their story too.
The ending was nice because it doesn’t have to be the ending, so much more can happen and I cannot wait to read the next book in the serie!
I’d recommend this book to anyone who loves a typical lovestory with a lot of angst, twists, hot steamy sex and betrayal.

Aiden when we first meet him you can tell right off what a good guy he is, "sweetheart, you were one of those people tonight. You would have let me take you anyway I wanted to with a room full of witnesses. Promise me to be a little less trusting. You're safe with me, but that might not be true of the next guy who leads you out of a party into the dark." Jeremy you got to love him, and it's always up to him to put things in perspective, "relax Aiden. You really need to figure this sh** out. You're acting like a jealous protective a**hole. You. Have. A. Girlfriend. Vanessa, remember her? If you want Becca, dump Vanessa. If you choose Vanessa, then leave Becca alone." Becca really knows how to turn her man on, "when we get back to Ellensburg I'm going to get on the pill. I believe it takes a month for it to start working." She answered. Oh, that did not help me reverse my blood flow back towards my other appendages." When Aiden and Becca are together they're so at ease with each other, "enough you two. Jeremy, go talk to your new friend. And Red, I would be more than happy to show you my package in private." I suggested."

I was given a copy of Self Destruct in exchange for an honest review.

Going into this book, I truly did not now what to expect. And boy did Self Destruct exceed my wildest expectations. This book had me on the edge of the couch with my knees drawn up to my chest, trying to read fast enough so I can see what will happen next, I found myself racing 10 page forward glancing over seeing if everyone is okay, breath and go back to where i stopped. I know it is cheating but hey i needed to know they will come out on top.

"i was falling in love with Aiden, or at least I thought I was. I knew for sure I had never felt like this before."

Self destruct is written I the way I have come to love - being told out of both main characters point of views. (this is now my favorite way a book can be written) The two main Character Rebecca and Aiden meet each other as unlikely friends. But a friendship blooms quickly into love. And oh well we all remember that one summer love. Well this summer love quickly turns to a serious relationship that will have most people running in the other direction. Both Becca and Aiden has dark past but together they help each other fight these past, the grow and heal. And all to quickly they realized they are each other air and can't live without each other.

"i want to be your only. I like that I'll be your first, but I love that I'll be your last"

Now what is a good love story if there isn't a few obstacles. And Bloody hell there were a lot. I still have a headache from all those obstacles. But as in life you just don't get a break, when the shit hits you it hits you from all the directions. And just in life this makes or breaks a couple. Thank heavens that this didn't break them but just made them stronger.

"each moment with you is better than the one before it."

Self Destruct is an amazing, heart warm love story that will you have on the edge of your seat. It show you that true love really exist and sometimes you do thing that other people find strange but for the couple is normal.

I give Self Destruct 4 Heartwarming stars

and recommend it to anyone who want i good love story with an happy ending cause seriously who wouldn't want to read a book with no happy ending (that just sucks)

The Insta-Love story line is a hard one for me to enjoy. Sometimes an author can pull it off and draw me into the story, then there are times like this where they can't. Becca and Aiden had tons of baggage between the two of them,so to have the instant feelings for each other and make it seem believable didn't work for me.

Becca is a girl running from her past. She has an awful mother that let an even more awful thing happen to her as a child. Stooping so low as to lead Becca to believing it was her fault. To numb herself from the feelings of the past, Becca parties quite a bit and teases the boys. She doesn't necessarily sleep around, just kissing them to try and help with the memories.

Aiden Ryan is a mess. Period. To me the guy should have worn a shirt that said "Red Flag" because every word out of his mouth would have sent me running for the hills. He also has a past he'd like to forget, but unlucky for him, he's set to marry his when he graduates. Also a fan of numbing the pain, Aiden heads out for a weekend at the lake with his friends to forget his future.

While her friends don't know the entire story, they know Becca needs a break and they take her up to the lake house as well. Her friend Toni's parents own the house and she's been vacationing there for years, so she knows the guys next door, introducing them to Becca. Seeing Becca from afar, then meeting her were two different things for Aiden. He was smitten with her from the get go and can't make her "his" fast enough.

Now I am all for the hot, alpha guy, however this was way too much too fast. Not only is Aiden's love life a mess, his parents are just as bad and don't help his situation at all. The lovebirds unload their pasts on each other and still decide to give things a go. Much to my dismay, because I couldn't let it go and it ruined the rest of the story for me.

That said, K.D. Carrillo did a great job at weaving romance and suspense together as things aren't easy for the new couple as the past begins to rear its ugly head. The story line is action packed as we get to know the rest of the characters quite well. I like the friends surrounding Becca and Aiden and can even see a few of them getting their own story. As for this one, I didn't fall in love with Becca and Aiden as fast as they fell in love with each other.

* I received an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review. *
The story started out quick and continued with that pace throughout the entire story. I was amazed at how quickly time passed while I was reading it and couldn't believe that it seemed like I barely started and was already finished. A LOT of things happened throughout the plot, and I enjoyed them all. I really like being surprised with twists and turns throughout the story, I couldn't figure out what was going to be thrown at me next and that is a really big plus for me. There was lots of twists and turns, ups & downs, hot and steamy sex scenes and of course the family betrayal. You just couldn't decide what was going to happen next and I was honestly hooked from beginning to end. The characters were very well developed and the dialogue flowed smoothly and naturally. The storyline is really energetic and contains a snappy and realistic dialog between everyone.
You will find yourself hoping for friends like Becca, Aiden, Toni, Katie, Jeremy and Cameron. They are so instantly likable that you feel like you have always known them. Becca and Aiden are both trying to heal and move forward, and need each other. Plain and simple. You will want to scream as their friends and family betray them and you will be just as hooked, as I was and I completed it within a day!
It is most definitely worth the read, so add this to your TBR list and pick it up soon!! Just a warning though, once you pick it up and start reading it you may not want to stop so make sure you have a clear schedule for the day!! I loved the ending and the fact that it doesn't have to be the ending, that you can see more things to come in this series and I hope to see spin-offs on the friends, as they were awesome! I love this group of friends and want them for my own!

I want to thank the author firstly for reaching out to me on my blog asking if I wanted to read and review her book, obviously I jumped at this fantastic opportunity :)

20 year old Becca has had a somewhat "tainted" upbringing which has caused her to go off in the deep end trying to forget anything ever happened, you don't get to know the facts of what happened until later in the story unfortunately, but she has dealt with ALOT!

Having "fun" as she puts it seems to be the only way Becca knows of how to numb the pain...or so she thinks??

“I was on a path to self-destruct, but it was all I knew.” ~ Becca

24 year old Aiden is stuck in a rut, with no way out....

What can he do?

He's stuck in a love-less relationship, whereas all he wants to do is get to know the beauty of a red-head that seems to of caught his attention, which he can't seem to shake!

We can tell that Aiden isn't your typical hero in the book, yeah he is perceived as a ladies man but he had a "girlfriend" and he would do anything to help a friend out....your typical gentle, kind bloke :)

When these two lost souls meet, something clicks and their constantly drawn together.

Becca & Aiden try to overcome their past & present hurdles that seem to crop up on them along the journey of self discovery.

You will be hooked, as I was and I completed it within a day! There was lots of twists and turns, ups & downs, hot and steamy sex scenes and of course the family betrayal.

The characters were well developed and keep us, the reader wanting more.

Definitely worth the read :)

I really enjoyed this book. At first I thought. Ok a typical love story and hell I love the typical love story but this was actually filled with angst, worry, and painful revaluations. I really enjoyed my Saturday afternoon reading Self Destruct and let's face it that is the perfect title because from the beginning that is how Rebecca struck me! She was set to self destruct but will she bring Aiden and everyone she cares about down with her? Can Aiden keep her safe? Will they get the happy ending they deserve? Or will Aiden get the ending his mother had planned for him? A lifetime of misery and heartache!

4.5 flashing stars from me!!! Nothing bad for the loss if the half a star but I felt these characters actually went through TOO much! Okay people go through a lot but in the spam of the book a lot of drama and heartache was caused but the love these characters had shined through!! Personal opinion but please make your own opinion because this book is well worth the read!!

Too fast

I'm so so tired of reading romance novels where the couples fall in love in just days or a week, sleep together then live happily ever after. I mean can an author go into more depth with the characters and allow them to get to know each other? This book was also not very believable

Love Triumph’s Tragedy!!!

This book tugs on the emotions. Aidan and Becca meet up at a lake where they are both vacationing and insta lust quickly turns to insta love. Their relationship comes together very quickly but that does not equate to easy. Together they overcome many serious obstacles and their love perseveres. This is the first book of the series and I hope we see more of them through the story of their friends!!!

This read was emotional, there was humour, there was angst and there was great heat!!! The story is one that I could not put down and loved reading about this world!!

I so loved and enjoyed reading Aidan and Becca’s story. Becca is haunted by memories from her childhood, leaving her broken and making her think of herself as unworthy of love. Aidan has a lousy life, and because of one mistake when he was young, he’s still paying. When these two meet at the lake during the summer, it’s the beginning of something beautiful, but not without challenges, and ends up changing both their lives forever. I really despised Aidan’s mother, if you could call her that, she was just a vile person. This book was so so good! I can’t wait for book #2!

I'm not usually a fan of super fast, fall in love stories but I loved this one... Some things are just meant to be no matter what other people think. The love between Aiden and Becca is felt and there's no denying it. Give think book a chance, I promise you won't be sorry.

A story about a girl trying to turn her life around and the man that fell in love with her. It is a happily ever after, however, this book is filled with so much suspense from one chapter to the next, even to the end. I didn't know what was going to happen from one minute to the next.

This was such a good book to read from K.D. Carrillo.

Even though it's romantic suspense, it was quite good; way better than the last romantic suspense book I had the misfortune of reading last year.

I really loved both Rebecca and Aiden too as he's pretty swoon worthy in this book.

Self Destruct by K.D. Carrillo is a story of taking control of your life, not letting others control your actions and to do what makes you happy. There were times throughout the book that I wanted to grab the characters and shake them for the decisions that they made, allowing outside influences and situations beyond their control to dictate how they lived their lives; and then there were times that I gave a silent cheer for the take charge attitude that they had; all of this making the story more intriguing. This story was a 3.5 star read for me and I would recommend this book to others.

Becca is a college student unlike any other. She struggles daily to rid herself of a past that haunts her; a childhood that traumatized her but that her parents don't seem to acknowledge as being a game changer. She has close friends that are like her family and she works hard to keep her life in order. She doesn't have room for guys or for love that is until she meets Aiden. Aiden has been carrying the guilt of a situation that was beyond his control, one that has kept him from being happy for a very long time. Although his long-time girlfriend was cheating on him and doing little to hide it, he refused to go as far as to sleep with any other girls as it felt wrong to him. Aiden feels that he is set up for a life without love due to his family obligations to his girlfriend, that is until he sees Becca on the beach.

Becca goes to the beach to rid her mind of the guy that she has been very casually dating. With her best friend by her side, she is determined to have a good time and that is where she has her first encounter with Aiden. Aiden is enraptured by Becca from his first glance, watching her attempt to jet-ski. After spending a little time with her, he realizes that she is an amazing person, which goes along with her beautifully simple look. It is the time that he spends with Becca and the idea of actually having a relationship that he wants to be in, a girl that he can see himself loving and wanting to spend time with that has Aiden doing something he should have done many years ago. He breaks up with his girlfriend, much to the dismay of his mother and begins seriously dating Becca.

It is the interference from their families, the struggles to deal with the past; and both Becca and Aiden's, that keeps this story intriguing and different from all of the other college love stories out there. I would highly recommend that everyone pick up this great book!

Wow this book was a shocker !! I loved it and was pleasantly surprised with where the story went and all the twists and turns it had !! My brain was fried after reading it.

Becca has some serious issues in her past. to cope she has been on a path of self destruction , drinking and stringing guys along but never going too far. In a short span of trying to better herself she ends up at a lake house with her bestie and a ton of hot guys. Currently in a weird relationship with Jake , Becca is unsure about how to feel with Aiden. Once she finds out Aiden is not single she decides they should just be friends.

Aiden has been handed a crap life. He made one mistake in high school and that has tied him to his girlfriend since. His mother is evil and you will be surprised at the family dynamic Aiden has to deal with. Aiden makes some pretty serious decisions about his life and although his choices happen rather quickly he knows what he wants and he goes for it.

Aiden and Becca have such a great start to their journey , I enjoyed the time they spent together and all the fun they had. They were electric and quickly slipped into a beautiful love story. Both with troubled pasts threatening to ruin their futures there was no shortage of drama. It was crazy the amount of drama they went through but it worked , it made them stronger it showed their love and devotion and it helped them move on and heal from their pasts. They were able to finally have that happiness and get on with their lives. It may be a cray ride but hang on tight because it is well worth it !! Aiden is such a genuine awesome guy !! Swoon worthy and HOT !! Becca is so strong and brave , she really has a lot to overcome and she does so with the help of true love and friendship. It was great seeing their story come full circle and I am excited to read about Kate and also get some updates on Becca and Aiden !!!!

Becca's trip to the lakes was just to appease her friend. But meeting Aiden brings all sorts of feelings and memories back from her traumatic childhood. Aiden has an instant and powerful attraction to Becca, but he is in an unhealthy relationship and it takes Becca to make him see that.

Can they both face the past and move forward, together?

When I began to read this book, I'm thinking "yeah, okay, not a bad book so far, maybe a three" but as the story developed and progressed, I become more engrossed in it and finsihed with a solid four star rating in my head.

Its written in the first person, and flips from Becca to Aiden, not a favourite of mine, as you know BUT I didn't mind it here. THIS is a good case of a good story will negate my dislike of the way its written.

And this IS a good story. It has heartache and break, betrayal, long held secrets, blackmail and ulterior motives. It has best friends and not so good friends. Each and every emotion portrayed here is well written and comes across beautifully.

The attraction between Becca and Aiden is hot and instant and I loved that, apart from a little making out, he waits til he is free of his relationship before he properly pursues Becca.

I did feel, towards the end, that the author should GIVE THESE GUYS A BLOODY BREAK! It seemed like one thing after the other got in the way, and I just wanted them both to be happy, together, in their HEA, which they DO get. It just takes a lot of hard work for them to get there.

I really, really, disliked Aiden's mother, though, and I think she is the sole reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars. That woman has no right to be a mother the way she treated him!

I have the next book, Destroy Me to read soon. Its about Becca's best friend Kate, and Reed, the neighbour who helped save Becca. I look forward to that, you get snippets here and it has me intrigued as to what Kate has to say.

4 stars

Becca is a 20 year old with a troubled past. She had a lot of trauma in her early adolescence and the response of her parents was not helpful. As a result she has engaged in a fair among of self destructive behaviors and hasn't been able to really connect with or develop real relationships with men. Aidan has been trapped in a loveless relationship for years due to a moment of carelessness in his teens, and a mother who values social standing and appearance above all else. When Becca and Aidan meet one summer, they both realize what their lives have been missing and find the love they both deserve.

I liked the beginning of this book quite a bit, but as the story continued I struggled to really stay connected to the story. Becca and Aidan (as well as Toni and Jeremy) were characters that were easy to like. They way they all supported one another was great. I liked the strong instant attraction that Becca and Aidan felt to one another, but when that turns into an entire life encompassing deep love within a week I struggle a little to stay on board. Even when I just gave in to the idea that they were the one for each other, the story lines started getting a little extreme for me. It felt like any one of the traumas that faced either character would have been enough to build a strong story on, but having one improbable intense tragedy after another happen to these characters started to feel little over the top. It also found some of the dialogue a little choppy and the speech a little hyperbolic at times. All in all, I did enjoy these characters and their friendships, and was hoping that good things would come to all of them. 2.5- round up to 3.

This was a really great book. Becca Scott is in college and she's just trying to deal with her and come to terms of her tragic past. In the past she has done some things trying to deal with them that could be construed as self destructive. Her best friend Toni has done what she could to get Becca to get help and try to stop these self destructive ways. She's been doing better but she still hasn't really let anyone get close. During the summer, Becca goes to visit Toni at the lake and meets some incredible people. She meets Aiden and Jeremy and they become her love and one of her best friends. Aiden is a great guy that has let horrible ruin and torture his life.

Becca is a really great woman whose family tried to hide and somewhat blame her for an incident she didn't want or had any control in. She's felt trapped and disgusted with her life. The people that were supposed to protect her and love her have made her feel insufficient and that it was probably her fault. She didn't think there was anyone that she could trust that would understand her predicament. She is attracted to Aiden and he makes her feel somewhat safe and she trusts that she can tell him things.

Aiden is gorgeous and talented. But he's been miserable for the past 7 years feeling trapped with his high school girlfriend. He got her pregnant and then she and her family gave the kid away without his knowledge. She cheats on him all the time but makes him feel guilt and that he needs to stay with her because he got her pregnant. When he meets Becca he realizes that there is more to life than staying tied to someone you don't even like. She makes him realize that life can be good again and that he can be happy.

Definitely worth reading.
