Alex Bailey's life is good. The son of a prominent anti-werewolf senator, he has it all: a job he loves, a great girlfriend, and a lifestyle that anyone would be jealous of.

The last thing expects is to be turned. Jumped in a dark alley by a werewolf with a grudge, that bite spells disaster: he's now a werewolf.

Now he's lost it all. Fired, dumped, and with only one month to learn to cope before the next full moon, his life is in shambles. The only thing that seems to be going right for him is the support of Jason, a werewolf guide assigned to help him through his first transformation.

But as Alex spends more time with the man, new instincts rise up inside of him. He doesn't just want Jason's moral support-- he wants his dominance, too.

This 24,000 novella is the first in the Howling series and contains explicit M/M content. For adults only!

This was a really interesting exploration of what living as a "Therian" (shifter) would be like. The immediate discrimination faced by Alex after his bite is dramatic. The way the rules and attitudes are described, I found parallels to those who are HIV positive. I appreciated that Alex learns about what he is now, revealing his fears and asking questions, over a several week period so that it seems like we are going through it with him. Jason is a great character and I love the interplay between the two as they are growing from friends to more. The ending is a cliffhanger but not as pronounced as some; we definitely resolve a number of issues before the narrative stops and I felt a sense of partial closure. It just seemed like we were going to be solving other mysteries and watching Alex and Jason flesh out their budding relationship in the sequel. Great casting of the were culture and physiology. I can't wait to continue reading!

I liked it but its INCOMPLETE! Should have known.. this is dated 2014 and there's not another to go along with it yet...

Alex's issues are not resolved, we have one encounter leading to first time gay sex and MINE but not really a biting claim, of which how 'mates' and 'claiming' aren't touched or explained, just the reader's conjecture on how it might work out.

Basically, unless there's more than this one book, it will just frustrate you to read this
