Spellscribed #3

Conviction

Rate this book
Endrance was finally free to return to Ironsoul and face the accusations placed before him. He had grown as a mage and as a man, the quality of his character proving to be up to the challenges that the fires of fate had in store for him. All he had to do was return home, prove his innocence, and everything would return to normal.

But the land of Ironsoul has a different rule, and it is first and foremost the territory of his long thought to be dead mother, Valeria. Her machinations had been manipulating him wherever he turned and Endrance now has to struggle to find the conviction to break free of her game, whatever it is.

How will he know what is the right choice to make, when it looks like everyone is making the choices for him?

As someone who enjoyed the first Spellscribed book and loved the second I can't help but feel a bit let down by this third installment.

There are a lot of ideas in this book but too many of them seemed only half baked and forced into the story instead of worked in naturally.

In forcing all these ideas together characters too often ended up showing behaviors that fall out of line with how they acted in previous books. The characters Joven and Selene in particular had a rough book in this way. Even Endurance's madcap wizard charm comes and goes; and is largely absent after about the halfway point.

--------------------------

Overall, I'd say Conviction left me wishing the story had stayed in barbarian land of Balator. And hoping the next one gets back to madcap wizard adventures and away from... whatever this book was supposed to be.

When I got this book, I first read the other two again, and I really liked them, even on the second read.
This book I find a little disappointing.
The story is pulled apart so much, with so many huge time skips that, expecially in the end I completely lost my immersion with the characters.
It was just this to huge cuts and suddenly this stupid "final" battle and then Bam the end.
Unlike the first two books this time I couldn't understand the main characters actions especially in the end, it seemed all so rushed and he acted so stupid (at least from my perspective).
So in this book there was no real purpose/challenge unlike the first two where he had a clear goal.
His big goal and challenge this time got pretty much just skipped.
Anyways I hope that the next book will bridge the gaps and clear things up a little.

This was such a good read!!! There was so much going on within this book. I had a few things that I disliked, but, overall, it was fantastic!!! I just wish it didn't end yet. I have so many questions left unanswered. I look forward to the next book.

To fast

I rated it 3 stars only because I like this serious so much. There could have been soooo much more they could have covered. Spoiler alert!! They did 3 years of endurance's life in 2 chapters. Way to fast slow down and take your time to tell me the story!

A bit all over the place

So overall still a good read, but not as good as the first two. This book had a lot of time skips, and I mean a lot. Worst part, they are not very well transitioned, and feel more like you just missed something. Also, there are some really annoying plot points that make no sense. Endrance is supposed to be pretty smart, but does some incredibly stupid things that seem completely forced to make issues for him, but like 5 seconds of thought would have avoided it. Lastly, the ending is absurd. I don't know what the next book is going to do to fix this, but this ending was awful in my opinion. Huge cliff hanger that again was caused by sheer stupidity on just about every major characters part.

Still gets a four stat because most of the book is still a good read, just those aspects mentioned left a bad taste

Patience

Patience is its own reward. How do you learn it?. By trial and hard work, learning from your mistakes. The reword is not win with out setbackes.

Oh wow this book was another great story in the Spellscribed series. This series has become one of my favorite. Seeing the main character grow and become stronger, while he deals with situations that for lesser men would probably have killed them long ago. But really that ending though... it was rough for me emotionally and I can only look forward to the next book to settle my anxiety of what is to come. Great story and would definitely read again.

i don't even.... i LOVED the first 2 books but this feels rushed, things happen so fast you dont even understand what the hell is going on, and let's not even talk about the ending

oh, the ending, really? this book has the kind of ending that is THE definition of cliffhanger but not happy with that i havent seen anywhere if this storyline is being continued or not, not cool

if you reached this book then finish it, otherwise dont even start it until the next one comes out... if it comes out

I believe this book was rushed, plot was underdeveloped and ending was rushed. It seems that the author first wrote books 2 and 4, and then simply wrote book 3 to serve as the connection between the two.

Again, loads of adventurous stuff happening, even if it doesn't all quite add up sometimes.
