Still haunted by his sister's disappearance, Griffin Fitzpatrick uncovers more about her last day at home and things his family kept from him. But he can’t focus on that as much as he’d like because his veterinarian needs his help. She's lost three of her patients' owners in the last month. One was an accident, one was a suicide, and the last was murder.
The victims had a dog, a cat, and a ferret. The only apparent commonality to the deaths is her office, but as Griffin digs into the crimes in detail, he soon finds more things in common…including the fact that he could be next on the list of dead owners.
This is the fourth in the series and as I said in my previous review, I am addicted to these books. This time Griff helps solve not one, not two, but four homicides. He only "talks" to one pet in this volume but we see that his investigative skills are now far beyond the initial information he gets from a pet. He gets more information about the mystery of his sister's disappearance when he was a child and I think that story is more interesting even than the homicides he investigates. In each book he learns more about the truth of what happens and comes out of himself a little more. He has gone from book one, where he wore only thrift store clothes to now wearing a shirt he bought from a department store. He's also taking better care of his property, fixing up. And his relationship with police detective Sheila continues to develop. His skills are getting stronger as he goes the extra mile to find out what happened to the deceased and Sheila not only likes him romantically but is more impressed with his skills as an investigator with each book. These books are short so it is easy to go from one to the next. The books definitely have to be read in order to fully appreciate them.
