Nick has come to a strange moment in his life. He, the leader of a political party, finds himself in partnership with a man who he is supposed to distrust, even publicly condemn.
And yet, in his political partner he finds a source of limitless and unexpected fascination. Over the next five years he encounters many other high ranking politicians — Nigel, Alex, Gordon, Barack — and shares in their days and nights as they attempt to change the world.
Told through the lens of a drifting politician in confused times, this book — from the author of the minor viral sensation do you believe in lief after loev — is entirely fictional. Indeed, it may be the most fictional work published in decades.
I've never been one to take much interest in politics, or indeed politicians, they all seemed pretty much alike and just wanted power, regardless of how they get it. But Dave has given me a new outlook! Caden's attention to detail through well researched personalities and events has shown a side to todays politicians that is both unseen but also very believable. I think I may now watch Question Time from a whole new perspective. This book has everything, love, the quest for power, rejection, obsession, revenge, truth, and a near death experience! I loved it!
So ... I don't know what to say, this was definately different. I liked it though I really did, but I somehow expected something else. But I enjoyed the writing style of Caden and Nick is a great character. Still I'm not sure how to classify this book (british politics fanfic ???). Whatever, actual rating: more like a 3.5
Could not finish he book as the dialogue was impossible to follow for a political novice like me. I think the book might be interesting for people with the right British political context.
