A fantasy twist on the story of The Princess and The Frog ... in which the princess is a shapeshifting mermaid! Perfect for fans of the hit television show, Once Upon a Time, or lovers of twisted fairy tales! Phaedra Jones’ life is perfect. She loves her small coastal town and the beach, graduation is just a year away, and she’s in love with the boy of her dreams. Unfortunately, everything changes when Phaedra’s boat goes down in a storm. Luckily, Phaedra survives, finding herself in a world beyond anything she could ever imagine. Not only does she discover that she is a Mermaid shifter of the underwater kingdom of Zenun, but the kingdom of Fallada—where fairytale creatures live and breathe—is depending on her. Phaedra risks losing everything: her perfect life, her family, even the boy she loves … all for a cause she has no stake in.
Arrian Riverleaf, Elf prince of the Riverleaf Clan, has been shunned by his people for over a century. After his arrogance caused him to be cursed, he became a hideous creature, only a shadow of his former self. When Princess Phaedra arrives in Fallada, he does not intend her to steal his heart. With her lost love to compete with and his own insecurities over his unattractive face, Arrian fights his feelings, knowing she could never look beyond his curse to love him.
As the two fight together to save Phaedra’s people, the realm of Fallada and the world of men will both hang in the balance as the battle between good and evil rages on.
Mother of 3 and Army wife. Lover of coffee, chocolate and good books. Writer of YA Fantasy that stretches the imagination. When not writing, I can usually be found reading.
I have no idea why I kept putting the reading of this series off, but I finally had some time to devour 'Rise of the Tide'. Having been sitting in my ereader for months, patiently awaiting to be opened, I decided I needed to read this, I'm so glad I did. Alicia has done an amazing job in this installment of "The Lost Kingdom of Fallada" series. 'Rise of the Tide' is book 3 in the series, I highly recommend you start with the prequel for this series & then work on the others chronologically. As each book is writen in time with the prophecy coming to fruition.
Phedra & her younger sister Sonia life in a coastal town with their aunt Sam, always drawn to the ocean, they enjoy everything to do with the water. A sailing trip has her family & boyfriend caught in a malestrom & sucked under the water. Thinking herself lost & hallucinating, not being able to find her family under the depths, a sonic boom makes everything turn black. Upon waking she finds out her who she is & that her boyfriend has passed in the trip over.
Alicia has again weaved a compelling, enthralling tale, it had me at the prologue & gripped me until the last line of the epilogue. I love how each book in the series is another piece of the prophecy, each princess has her own book. The Kingdom of Fallada is described so vividly, so are all the characters... it takes me into the books completely when I'm reading. Bring on book 4, I can't wait to read it!
Rise of the Tide is the third in the Lost Kingdom of Fallada series. Phaedra and her sister Sonia lives with their aunt in a coast town where things couldn't be any better. This all changes one day during a boat ride when their a storm and the boat goes down. Surviving the storm, Phaeda finds herself in another world where she is a mermaid and that someone is out to kill her as both her & her sister of two long lost princesses that could change the way Fallada is ruled.
Along the way she meets up with Arrian, an elf prince and two other of the lost princesses (whom we've met in the first two books). All of them are there to help her accept who she is, protect those she loves and to save the Zenun (her true home).
I absolutely loved the book. You have a whole other world with mermaids and mermen, you have characters you meet before that help Phaedra out and add just that much more to the story. The characters are all describe with great detail, making it so easy to picture them in your mind. The story line is great and I can't help getting lost in the book and being drawn into Fallada; which is one the things I love about reading.
I really enjoyed this book along with the other books in The Lost Kingdom of Fallada series.
Phaedra Jones' life is perfect! She lives with her sister, sonia and her Aunt Sam. She is in love with Charles. There is a big storm and Charles dies. Phaedra finds out she is a mermaid... Queen Eranna has taken control of Zenun and has Phaedra's mother Queen Xyla and her father's trident captive. Phedra must train to save her people and steal the trident from Eranna.
Rise of the Tide is a spin on Beauty and the Beast. I really enjoyed the romance form between Phaedra and the cursed elf Arrian.
Defintely a riff off of the little Mermaid. I just saw the cover art for this book. What CRAP the main charcter's skin is described as much darker than the latte colored mermaid on the cover of the book! Wonderful continuation if the war. I feel I just understood the black panther referencewith Pincess #2 and her longing for the the Captain? There is a lovely part about seeing the beauty with in and her kiss releasing the spell on the Prince is fun.
Lively complex characters that don't do things the easy way you'd wish them to, which is great because it makes this so much better than a clichéd fairytale--like real people got dropped in a fantasy & are reacting from their emotions not as chess pieces.
Lots of great interwoven plots. I enjoy that each book isn't just about tying a vow around one main character. This is a story about Joclyn, Desdemona & Phaedra, but there stories are continuing & there are more characters to come. Good stuff.
The one weird bit is time. Michael's was smart to vaguely reference that when the wall went up between Earth & Fallada that time didn't match up anymore either. 'Cuz Phaedra was 3 when she and Sonia landed on Earth (at the same time as Selena & Joclyn) and all the girls were 3 or less when they were taken. But, Joclyn is almost 21 & Phaedra is 18. And it's weird that the siblings who stayed in Fallada are still the same age difference as the sisters who went to Earth. But it's okay 'cuz magic.
I absolutely love this series, I can't wait for book 5. I love how your kept up to date with the other girls, and how it all flows, making it an easy enjoyable read.
Taken me a little longer to read this one I'm trying to slow down because I've only got one more book left to read after this one and I don't want this series to end boo hoo
It was amazing alone with all of the books in the series. I seriously could think of nothing else. As an avid reader I love it when an author can suck me into the story so much that I am enthralled with their works and can devour their books like nothing else.
