Chen Wentong (5 April 1926 – 22 January 2009), better known by his pen name Liang Yusheng, was a Chinese writer. Credited as the pioneer of the "New School" (新派) of the wuxia genre in the 20th century, Chen was one of the best known wuxia writers in the later half of the century, alongside Jin Yong and Gu Long.
I read this part historical, part fantasy adventure, part martial art novel a long time ago. I remember revenge, adventures, otherworldly martial art and fight scenes and the romances among different couples are pretty much the main themes of the story.
I like the ending, plus I also actually like the male lead's personality and development (which is rare for me), I also like the love triangle among the male lead and his two love interests and how it ends (which is also rare for me). It's one of Liang Yusheng's more impressive works.
One of Liang Yusheng's best wuxia novels, with a memorable hero and love triangle. Liang Yusheng is clearly more adept at creating fascinating female characters than Jin Yong.
This novel does suffer from some structural problems, and is maybe not as nail-biting as Jin Yong's epic novels, but Li Shengnan is, like Lian Nichang, among wuxia fiction's most unforgettable female characters.
