"They don't come any better than Doris Day." - Frank Sinatra.

"There was something about her that was so cool." - George Clooney.

Doris Day was known as America's Sweetheart. She lit up the movie screens and record charts from the 1940s all the way to the 1960s. To this day, she remains the biggest female box-office star in Hollywood history.

Doris is a true American icon who brought magic to millions of fans worldwide. Even today, her movies and music still inspire new generations.

"The rootin', tootin', whip-crackin', sharp-shootin' tomboy who went from being this rough-and-ready character to this glamorous, beautiful bride. It was just amazing . . .I thought then that she was the best of everything a woman can be, and when I grew up I wanted to be just like her," said country music star Melinda Schneider.

Doris has also been a champion of pets for decades. "I’ve just always loved animals. With the band, I couldn’t have any pets then when I went into films and stayed in one place, I could. I’ve had many of them and I still have many," Doris said.

She even started the Doris Day Animal Foundation, where you can donate to help rescue animals who are in danger of being destroyed because there is no one to adopt them.

"I love life. I have my pets around me and good friends. I'm young at heart and I love to laugh. There's nothing better," Doris once said.
