well i should have stuck to the regular scheduled programming but i got curious & it didn’t pay off 🤣

i totally appreciate this is a novella and i always adjust my expectations accordingly but this was not great. too much mundane happenings, such as hiking and scavenger hunting for a 100 page story. i think we need to ask the question, why would someone pick up a novella about a guy and his sisters fiancé’s best man? spoiler alert, it’s for some hot smut. which was mediocre at best.
listen, for saying this was both their first times with other men, it was kinda unbelievable that slone is suddenly rimming owen, no issues, like a pro 🤣
a double bi-awakening should slap but unfortunately the meal was not served. i came for filth & heat but instead got the quickest acceptance of suddenly being attracted to the opposite sex of what you always have been, ever. like guinness world record style.

also, a bit of context, they are on a trip for owen’s sisters engagement weekend.. engagement weekend?! who does that? is that a thing? did i miss something? but anyway back to my point - i did laugh out loud at the end when the whole party went into their room and found out they were banging. like oh cool.
then it was just, together, forever - the end. LOL. literally, that’s how it ended 🤣
honestly if this was a full length but i’d dnf but i decided to waste an hour and a bit of my time instead. oh well, lols. i was partly entertained.

*For the record, I have no idea why this is marketed as a 'dark novella'. Nothing about it was dark in my opinion and if you know me, you know I put warning lists at the bottom of all my reviews.
I bring this up to say: If you're not a dark romance person, don't let that label scare you away.
It's just regular old contemporary, maybe forbidden, romance.
No mental health struggles, no death, no consent issues, etc.

Owen and Slade completely stole my heart. Owen is just this sweet soul who wants to be happy and watching him navigate his reactions to Slade? Pure gold. But can we talk about Slade's POV chapters?! As a pediatric trauma surgeon, his mind works in this fascinating, analytical way, always observing, always processing. And when that analytical brain turns toward Owen? Chef's kiss!!

The chemistry between them is insane!! It is a double bi-awakening, but Slade being Slade doesn't spiral about it, he just wants to understand what's happening between them.
These two are ridiculously hot together, but also surprisingly relatable? Like, they felt like real people you could actually know.

And the supporting cast? Loved them. That last chapter had me cackling, it was lighthearted, accepting, and just pure vibe. ✨

Maybe it's because the ones i've read recently don't have drama or characters pushing away and at a time where if feels like the world is falling apart and there's so much uncertainty about the future a big dose of sweet and uncomplicated chemistry is all i'm looking for in my reads.

Oh mother of all things unholy, this was so hot. I was giggling and kicking my feet the entire time I was reading.

Slade’s possessiveness had me feral I ATE TS UP. Making him a surgeon was the author’s best decision, it made everything so much more intense.

I only wish we could’ve gotten more. This couple absolutely deserves a full story, 100 pages is NOT enough.

I randomly spotted Wrecked by the Best Man on my bestie’s stories 👀 and then, not even an hour later, it popped up again on Goodreads. Meanwhile I was painfully dragging myself through a book that just wasn’t hitting… so naturally, I ditched it and jumped into this one.

Best. Decision. Ever. 💥

The amount Jenny Pineapple managed to pack into such a short read is honestly wild. There’s actual plot, enough character depth to really know these men (without it ever feeling heavy), and the emotional build-up?? I was GIDDY. I felt the tension, I laughed out loud, and I absolutely could not stop flipping pages to see what chaos would unfold next 😏📖

And the chemistry?? NEXT LEVEL. It hits almost instantly and completely blindsides both of them — neither has ever been attracted to another man before, so watching them try to navigate these intense, confusing feelings was perfection. The tension, the sneaking around, the stolen moments… it made everything even more delicious to read 🔥🔥

And when they finally come together?? HOLY FUCKBALLS 😮‍🔥💀
Yeah. That was hot.

The ending had me in actual hysterics — I was laughing, smiling, and immediately wishing it was longer even though it perfectly did what it needed to do.

Do yourself a favour and read this one 💖
It’s a shortie, but it’s spicy, fun, emotional, and ridiculously entertaining.

I loved this book. It was a fun, steamy quick read. I really loved both Owen and Slade. Owen was sweet and just wanted to be happy. I liked his reactions to Slade. I loved the chapters from Slade's point of view- the way his mind works- analytical and observational. As pediatric trauma surgeon, it's perfectly suited. The chemistry between them sizzled below the surface. A double bi-awakening, but the way Slade's mind works, he doesn't question it, but wants to see if there's something there.

'I want to understand this pull between us. To know if last night was a drunken mistake or the beginning of something neither of us expected to find. Most of all, I want to see if sober Owen responds to my commands the way I think he will— with that delicious mix of resistance and surrender.'

I tried to read this slow to make it last since it's a short story, but I really couldn't get enough of these two and I was completely hooked to the story. These two were hot together. I also found them both to be really relatable guys. I liked the supporting characters as well. That last chapter was hilarious and I just loved the vibe of it with everyone- lighthearted and accepting.

Jenny Pineapple- please write these guys a sequel! I am seriously in love with them and want to see more- what would their relationship look like on the day-to-day? And holidays? Just... more! 5 stars.

This was another great read by Jenny. Each story I read by this author has always been fantastic. These short stories are everything. The spice is always great, too 🔥🔥🔥. I love that this one is also a double bi awakening.

This story follows Slade and Owen. Owen goes on a weekend retreat for his sister's engagement. He ends up staying in the same room as Slade, the best man. Both of these men are straight but feel a connection to one another. Owen sees his ex-girlfriend happy with another guy and gets very drunk. He stumbles in his room and ends up in bed with Slade and kisses him. Things get heated between these two and their connection grows. Can a weekend retreat turn into more?

I loved the connection and chemistry between these two men. Both of them were straight but accepted their new sexuality so easily. I love how their attraction and love came easy. I love how Owen made Slade jealous and brought out his possessive side. I also loved how Owen submitted to him and took orders so obediently 😏🥵🔥🔥🔥. Slade was so protective and observant with his man. Such an amazing story. Onto the next!

Wow, I knew I loved reading anything that Jenny Pineapple writes but this one blew me away, not only is it fantastically written but it is unique, refreshing, dark in parts and funny. The whole idea of an engagement party for friends and family might feel cringe-worthy to many, add in the idea of doing that very thing at some form of environmentally friendly lodge, having to see your ex-girlfriend with her new partner and you might, almost, have an idea about this story.

There is much more to it all though, that short synopsis hopefully hints at the underlying cynicism Jenny Pineapple includes in the story, making it feel almost impossibly true to life. Then there is the best man, the best friend of the groom and the one the bride-to-be's brother who are roooming together, one of them getting very drunk and both of them discovering it leads them to a joint bi-awakening...

All of that and so much more happens in this story, it is steamy, sexy, hot, dark in parts and incredibly revealing - to the characters as much as the reader and I for one could not put it down, not only is it a keeper it is one I will be reading over and over again.

This one was too quick. I could've read 200 more pages of Owen and Slade.

We've got almost FULL development in just over 100 pages that include a few spicy scenes. I'm honestly blown away...but I'm also not.

I tend to devour authors who write short novellas but can tell a complete story and I feel like I've finally found an MM author that does it (I have sooo many favorite MF authors who write these short novellas). Seriously, SO good.

I mean, the TENSION. 🥵 The way these two couldn't keep their eyes off each other...the way Slade payed attention to Owen enough he pegged him as a sub almost immediately is amazing. The DETAILS, y'all.

You know I love DETAILS. Ahhhhh, obsessed!

The ending was both adorable (with everyone in the room) but abrupt. I want moooooore 😭

I've read just about all the stories this author has written and they're all solid and enjoyable! I really liked the background details in this one - the setting and the characters seemed like real people. The MCs were hot and fairly well developed, given this is a short story. I loved the bi-awakening and how natural it felt to them. Both MCs just rolled with it without drama and I loved that. The spice was hot and so was the light kink! Yum!!! I wish there had been maybe just a few more pages because the ending felt just a tad rushed to me, but I loved the HFN and their potential HEA.

It was incredibly erotic and never felt forced, but felt perfect for these two. I didn’t like the ending, nearly ruined my view on the books entirety, but then Owen and Slade were good, so I had to dial it back to them. Everything was perfection: the tension, the sex scenes, and the light D/s dynamic. For such a short story, the characters felt really fleshed out, which made it even better.

If I had one complaint, it would be that it was too short. I would have loved a full novel about them.
