This book. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I could not put it down.
Charlotte and Maverick, polar opposites, yet one night changed everything between them, then a distant memory, or was it.
There both running from there pasts, hiding from things they don’t want to accept and or acknowledge, but when there present collides they have no choice but to work together, because the stipulations that Maverick’s father Jasper set out after his death is iron clad.
Jasper was a smart man, he knew there was more to Charlotte, her business acumen taking his ranch to the next level. All a father ever had is hope for his son to take over there families legacy, but Maverick had his own dreams, until they were carelessly taken. And now all Maverick holds is resentment and anger towards Charlotte and what he has lost.
There close proximity makes for a very challenging and difficult working relationship, everything they exchange is heated words, but what they have between them, they want to deny, the push and pull, the banter, undeniable, and when they finally come together, they ignite.
Charlotte has lived in fear for a very long time, for the first time she feels safe and comfortable, yet when Maverick learns the truth, about the real reason why Charlotte is where she is, he confronts her, yet she doesn’t deny the truth. Maverick can see the truth of it in her eyes and her body language tells a story of survival. If there’s one thing Maverick will do, it will be to keep her safe, now that he has her back in his life, he has no intention of letting her go.
As they bask in there newfound love for each other whilst competing in events, they have found something mutually beneficial that connects them, only the one person Charlotte didn’t expect to destroy her sense of purpose and happiness was her ex fiancé Julian.
Charlotte comes undone and it takes everything Maverick has to not step in and give him a piece of his mind, but he knows Charlotte comes first. Only when there back in the safety of there home, her past follows them, and the events that unfold leads Charlotte to make a decision that she will not come to regret, cause when she learns the truth, that all she ever was was a tool to be used and manipulated, she’s done letting people walk all over her, finally taking her power back.
In the days that follow Charlotte becomes an entirely different person, with the help of friends, and with Maverick’s help were they able to make the problem go away. Charlotte has made peace and is finally able to accept that for the first time she can life her life freely and without fear, a future that she’s always dreamed of, a life worth living with Maverick.
Yet, all this time, Maverick has been a fool, a fool to not accept that the woman standing in front of him, is the one good thing to happen to him, the best thing in a very long time, because when Charlotte say I love you for the first time, she says it with certainty, yet when Maverick repeats those same three words, it comes with a marriage proposal, one she gladly accepts.
Because the both of them have lost so much time, to the past, now the present has bought them together in ways they didn’t expect, and given them a chance to have a future where they can live out there hopes and dreams in each others arms.
I would be remiss is saying that those spicy scenes were perfect and on point. Charlotte is such a fiery vixen, and Maverick is controlling and possessive. He knows what his little bird needs, and she gets exactly what he gives. Pleasure and pain, because whatever proclivities Charlotte has, Maverick accepts, by helping her to be open in her sexuality in a safe and welcoming environment, making her feel wanted, loved and cherished for the first time in her life. Because whatever she wants he will gladly give, to see her smile and laugh, her happiness is all that matters to him and he will protect it fiercely until his last breath.
Highly recommend both the author and the book. Can’t wait to read what this author writes next.
