I think this is a lot more clever than it is good, per se, although its central couple are terribly awkward in the best way. And the addition of a Japanese Greek Chorus of regular train passengers dying for these two, who only get twenty minutes commuting time together each day, to start dating, is a solid conceit.
It makes for a spectacular attempt that ends up feeling somewhat unspectacular by the end. The train trio is an old business guy, a salarywoman, and a university student. They make for a nice mix of people, but aren’t unique enough to warrant so much page time.
Conversely, our two leads are so deadly cute with their excessive bashfulness and attempts to learn more about one another. They already have the feels, just not the confidence, so we get a lot of them fumbling awkwardly. And maybe taking advice from dubious elementary school kids.
I do think this gets very, very slightly better as it goes onward. A late two-part chapter throws together several previous plot threads in a glorious pandemonium that was very impressive. We otherwise don’t get too much development throughout the volume, although we at least learn why she likes him.
The endless build-up and let down as these two make the world’s most incremental progress towards each other does help its closing moments land with a bang as well. I will keep reading this because I, too, am invested in these two.
I mean, there’s nothing here that shouldn’t work, and it really does, but it doesn’t necessarily work quite as well as I want it to. This just lacks a little extra oomph in some nebulous form that would push it ahead. I do think it might be down to a writing issue, sadly - I could see a skilled mangaka having a field day with this.
(And having just realized it IS written by a skilled mangaka, the one behind the competently done My Monster Secret? Maybe the premise isn’t tenable after all…)
Genuinely, I think its primary draw, the three commentators, might actually get in the way more than it helps. It does make for one good joke in the omake about how they all came together, at least. Otherwise, they could use some more personality. Any personality. They should add a lot more than they actually do.
This could, in fact, probably lose its premise and stand on its own, which says a lot when the premise is such a decent idea. It’s just people watching amped up with wacky takes and text messaging, nothing wrong there. It just can’t sell it quite enough to justify it.

I am loving this rom com! Seeing things from the eyes of others as well as the participants involved is a nice touch. The funny thing is the extent of the circle of watchers of this little bidding romance. Can't wait for the next volume to see how this all plays out.

So I understand getting interested in someone's life that you aren't actually apart. That removal but interest can make things fun for whatever reason. Here we are following a couple but also a few fellow passengers on their morning commute that have noticed what is blooming between the two but also very invested. We just never learn enough about these characters that I am invested in any of them. Not the watchers nor the couple. The art is kind of just okay to me.

Liebe kann einen überall finden - auch auf der alltäglichen morgendlichen Zugfahrt 🚃♥️
Ein Junge und ein Mädchen fahren jeden Morgen mit dem gleichen Zug zur Schule - meistens sitzen sie sogar nebeneinander, beide finden den jeweils anderen toll und möchten ihn weiter kennenlernen, aber keiner traut sich, den ersten Schritt zu machen. Was diese Situation zu einer spaßigen Liebeskomödie macht, sind die anderen Fahrgäste - denn sie wissen ganz genau, was sich hier vor ihrer Nase abspielt und sie können nicht anders, als die beiden im Stillen zu beobachten, anzufeuern, die Hände über dem Kopf zusammenzuschlagen, vor Ungeduld zu platzen und sich miteinander darüber auszutauschen. Das ist so herrlich und zeichnerisch in übertriebenem Maße dargestellt, dass ich mich beim Lesen sehr amüsiert habe 🤭 Der allgemeine Jubel, wenn ein Annäherungsversuch unternommen wird, die Frustration, wenn dann doch wieder etwas dazwischen kommt, die Freude über die Kräfte der Gravitation bei einer Kurve, die der Zug fahren muss, wodurch die beiden sich näher kommen könnten, bis zur Verzweiflung, wenn sich jemand anders auf den freien Platz neben dem Jungen setzt und ihn in ein Gespräch verwickelt.
Wer eine sich schnell entwickelnde Romance-Geschichte sucht, wird hier sicherlich nicht fündig werden und ich bin selbst gespannt, wie sich das Konzept über mehrere Bände halten wird, da man ja irgendwann auch mal ein bisschen von der Stelle kommen möchte. Die langsame schüchterne Annäherung besitzt aber definitiv auch einen gewissen Charme, der mich durchaus gekriegt hat und am Ende des Bands wissen die beiden schonmal die Namen voneinander - ein kleiner Fortschritt 😂👌
So bin ich auf jeden Fall gespannt auf den zweiten Band und freu mich drauf 😊💛

Perfectly fine cute little romance. I think putting the perspective from the eyes of the voyeurs was a nice touch. Unfortunately all the things that make romances compelling as a story are surgically evacuated, leaving us to rest only with the novelty of its premise.
How does this voyeurism change the voyeurs? We don't know because they have no existence other than as viewpoints.
Why are the subjects in love with each other? We don't know, they're just blank stand ins for the concept of being attracted to a stranger.
Both of these are potentially interesting lines of inquiry that I would expect a basic level writer to explore. What if the destined lovers are not actually compatible, or even what if they ARE? Are these old folks who are perving on high schoolers and elementary schoolers going to think about what it says about them, their philosphies, even their lifestyles that this is how they while away their time? What if the subjects figure out about the voyeurs? Again, things I expect from an average work that aren't approached here and I see no reason to assume will ever be approached in the future.

Mmmmh ja, es ist definitiv mal was anderes und schon auch ganz witzig hier und da, aber auf Dauer glaub ich verfliegt der Zauber 😅 aktuell gibt's in Japan 4 Bände - ich kann mir das irgendwie nur schwer über einen längeren Zeitraum vorstellen, denn es wiederholt sich dann ja doch irgendwann mal. Der Plot ist recht simpel: da gibt es zwei Mittelschüler, die sich offensichtlich gegenseitig mögen, aber zu schüchtern sind es zu zeigen oder sagen. Sie sitzen immer verlegen nebeneinander in der Bahn und gucken sich gegenseitig verstohlen an. Und dann gibt's da noch die drei “Beobachter”, die das ganze immer in ihrem Chat kommentieren und mitverfolgen, ja eigentlich regelrecht mitfiebern, wie es mit den beiden denn nun voran geht! 🔥 Dabei entstehen einige ganz witzige und absurde Situationen, bei denen ich meist sehr schmunzeln muss, aber je öfter es ähnliche Momente gibt, desto mehr verfliegt das Gefühl 😬 die Charaktere an sich sind ganz süß und amüsant, man kann ebenso alle gut auseinander halten. Nur die gewisse Spannung fehlt mir dann doch etwas 🤔 optisch sind die Panel aber schon anzusehen und haben viele Details.

This was a very fun little romcom. Though it would be more accurate to say this is more of a comedy while the romance is a side feature to this series plot. And you know what? It works so well for this one. The description and generally what the cover and back cover looked like told me exactly what I was going to be expecting and that was a fun time.
Think about how in Kaguya-sama Love is War there is a narrator who in the English Dub especially is rather crazy and very entertaining to the point where a faceless/nameless character is quite possibly the best part of that series. Think of that character was given their own series where they are with a collective group of people in a group chat all to freak out over a kid who they know clearly has a crush on a girl next to him on the train. That is exactly what this manga felt like. Our protagonist’s are technically the passengers of the train while the slow burn romance is their entertainment.
The world is a show and this is the ultimate manga for people watching!

A daily commute where a boy and a girl are crushing on one another but neither will make a move. The train leaves the station and they move through the stops until one gets off and there's always a doubt about how to start a conversation- observing things like keychains on bags or what stops or what season or when they're not there, it's a chess game but no one is making the first move.
The humor of the first volume is that the train regulars are watching this unfold and have their own silent group text chat talking ABOUT the two of them, trying to figure out when it will actually happen. The pure adorableness is the stuff of classic YA manga romantic comedies with the charming ending where they at least end up knowing each others' name. The panel right before they come together is one of my favorites.

Cute premise, and the young love and artwork are genuinely endearing, but this is not an idea that can sustain a series. It would have been better as a one-shot manga: a complete story about how a first love can bloom on a train with the help of some overly invested bystanders, ending with a proper happily ever after and a clean exit. By the middle of Vol. 1, I was already exhausted by the premise and the glacial pace of progress.
The meta conceit of watching the romance through the bystanders’ eyes wears thin fast. It’s a good joke for a couple of chapters, but as the engine of an entire series? Come on. Brevity is the soul of wit, and this felt more like a cross-country trip than a morning commute to school.

Super cute! The reader becomes one of the many characters who are rooting for these two youngsters to grow closer (at their own pace), so long as they do it on the train where we can watch!

(C20) Escéptica y todo pero fui una chismosa más que esperaba puntual el tren cada día para ver como avanza la relación de estos dos. Más que el romance adolescente, me divertí con los pasajeros. Definitivamente sería bestie de la oficinista ♡
