Max Haines was a syndicated crime columnist.
His "Crime Flashback" column made its debut in the Toronto Sun in 1972 and was syndicated across Canada and in several Latin and South American countries.. His first column was about Lizzie Borden. He was awarded the Derrick Murdoch Award, one of the Arthur Ellis awards, by the Crime Writers of Canada.

Been reading the short chapter entries from this in between various novels over the past few months. A fascinating collection of stories about actual doctors and the actual murders they committed for either money or lust...sometimes both...and a few times just simply because they thought they could get away with the crime. Makes me think of Sherlock Holmes' comment in "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" about how terrible it is when an intelligent person turns to crime.
