Wedding bells are ringing on the Double-Bar-K and Luke Matheson is determined to make his move on his favorite bridesmaid—sweet, sexy Mia Start. Though she’s shared his house for more than two months, she’s remained elusive. Luke’s ready to cross that divide, and win her love for good.
Mia would give anything to marry Luke, but he won’t want her once he knows the truth; she’s four months pregnant with another man’s child. It’s time to find a real home—and a real job—so she can raise her baby alone.
When a nosy neighbor exposes Mia’s pregnancy at his brother’s wedding, Luke sees his chance to finally get what he wants. He lays claim to the baby—and to Mia—but their happily-ever-after lasts barely a day. When Luke’s pride clashes with Mia’s need for independence, Mia calls the wedding off.
Can Luke convince her to change her mind? Or will these wedding bells sound the death knell of their relationship?

I really didn't like this book at all. I was so looking forward to Mia and Luke's book. I love the baby of another man theme and it could have been so cute only it wasn't. Luke was a complete idiot that always said and did the stupidest, and hurtful things. Truly I have never read a hero more boneheaded in my life. And Mia God help me Mia was an immature twit. She acted like the 5 year old you see with their hands on their hips yelling I'm all grown up and I can do what I want cause I'm a big girl! They didn't really have any kind of relationship. They broke up after one day then Mia and Luke just avoided each other off and on for weeks. They would then every once in a while sleep together then Luke would open his mouth piss Mia off and they would avoid each other some more. That right there is the whole book. I didn't like it or the couple total let down!
The end of the series with Luke Matheson, the most controlling of the four brothers it seems. He's enthralled with Mia Start, the girl who has been living in his cabin and keeping the fact that she's pregnant a secret from him. She's very much in love with him as well, but she knows as soon as it's know that she's carrying another man's child, he'll be angry with her and stop liking her. So she's pretty surprised when he stands up at Rose and Cab's wedding, claims the baby as his and announces their engagement. Only these two have very different ideas about what they want from a marriage, and their engagement lasts about a day. After that, Luke has to do everything he can to win her back.
This more or less felt like watching two unmatched puzzle pieces being forced together. I truly couldn't understand why Luke thought he was in love with Mia when all he knew was that she was beautiful and liked kids. He had no idea what she wanted out of life or marriage and had no idea how to be a supportive partner. That being said, I thought Mia was pretty selfish as well. These two spend the majority of the book apart and at odds, mostly because Mia is hypersensitive and Luke has this verbal diarrhea sort of condition, where every time he's faced with Mia he spouts off nonsense and then thinks, "Oh, wait. That wasn't what she wanted to hear?" It really got to a point where I kind of didn't care if they got together at all and began routing for Mia and Carl.
That being said, it was still an engaging, well-written story. There was plenty more pranking and some of these are some mean-spirited pranks too. I wonder that these guys are friends at all...it's not like a shaving-cream trick or tin-foiling an office (although the sign on the police cruiser was pretty clever and funny). This is poking fun at a friend's dyslexia or laughing about how your brother is going to be miserable for the rest of his life because he'll never have kids if he keeps screwing up with his girl. Holt was WAY easier to stomach in this story and even showed some uncharcteristic goodness.

This is one of those books where it is best to read the entire series. All of the books are inter-related and all of the characters have recurring roles in each story. Mia has been living with Luke for the past few months. While neither have ever admitted their feelings for one another, they both clearly want to. However, Mia is hiding a big secret from Luke and because of that secret she feels she can never have Luke. However, secrets this big tend to come out, usually in about nine months! Once again, Cora Seton has brought together great characters that you will instantly be rooting for as they try to find their way as a couple. There is also a reappearance of Carl which could suggest he might get his own story soon? Perhaps we will see more Cowboys of Chance Creek? I for one can only hope so!
*I received a free ARC of The Cowboy Earns a Bride from CrushStar Multimedia LLC via Netgalley in exchange of an honest and unbiased review*
ARC received on September 16 2014.
Both Mia and Luke were acting like spoiled children for a while, but when Mia found her backbone, and Luke understood that she should be his partner and not his princess, things became pretty good!
Okay so I wasn't looking forward to this book at all. For several books now I've just cringed knowing it was coming. Luke is a dumbass. Mia was just annoying.
Seriously if they had a conversation it would have been resolved, but Mia never shared KEY facts, and Luke was a dumbass so just made assumptions.
IT's been several weeks since I read it, but frankly I don't care about trying to remember other details for a review. I was glad when the book was over. I'm glad that this series is over... (Oh wait, there is apparently one more book) I was not fond of the Mathesson trilogy at all.
The only thing remotely interesting in this book was that rich Carl came back, and had a personality for a change.
A free copy of this book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The Cowboy Earns a Bride is the story of Luke who helps on his father's ranch and shares a house with Mia, who he'd love to start a relationship with. Mia, on the other hand, has just found out that she's pregnant following an ill-advised fling and wants to start her own business and not burden Luke with her pregnancy. The plot of this story was fairly decent, however, it was also very repetitive with Mia constantly fighting with Luke every time he tried to help and then failing to take any good advice that anyone actually gives her. The fight and make up so many times in this book that it becomes a little boring. Having not read the other books in this series as well I often felt when reading this book that I didn't get some of the subplots that went on around Luke and Mia and so the multitude of in-jokes weren't really very funny. It was a shame really because I liked the actual plot of the story, but it just felt a little too slow for my liking and the characters didn't really hold my attention. A good plot, but very slow moving and repetitive in places. 2 stars.
Mia thought she´s found a man who loved her, sure he was older and married, but he promised her the whole world - until she found herself pregnant. Now she´s alone, with nothing from the father-to-be other than a check, and living temporarily in Luke´s house. Luke wants Mia but although she seems to share the attraction, she keeps him at arms lenght. What is stopping her? When he catches a break and finally gets her where he wants her, you could think it´s all easy from there. But no. Bumpy road ahead, can they find a HEA together? Contemporary romance, angst and smutty fluff in a great combo. ARC is provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
Mia Start has a secret she's pregnant with another man's child while in love with Luke Matheson. Luke Matheson wants a life with Mia but he's unsure how to make that happen. They both want to be with each other but people are making it difficult for that to happen. Luke's father hatches a plan to keep this couple from falling apart. Can Luke accept Mia's pregnant? Your answers await you in The Cowboy Earns a Bride.
This series is so heartwarming to behold. The characters face unique challenges that either make them strong or fall apart altogether. It's a bold, rich, complex, mystery, and intriguing mix of a story.
2.5 stars Disappointing when the series should be hitting its apex.
I enjoyed this read, as I do all of Ms. Seton’s books. Unfortunately, the enjoyment came with an equal amount of frustration. Many of the characters seemed to be caricatures of themselves. For those reading from the star of the series, you might expect growth in the characters featured from previous books. Instead, it was like they were the people from the beginning of their stories instead of where they were at the end of their character arcs. Given that this was book 8 in the series, continuity of these characters, who we’ve come to love, is important. I really don’t need to start hating on Claire again.
Where was the Luke who had been crushing on Mia so long? Where was the Luke who told her he liked pink (previous book)? Where was the Luke who was waiting to make a move? Luke acted like he lost his mind. I know there needs to be conflict, but is this really the same Luke who was fully on board with loving Mia and her unborn baby? Does he really think all Mia wants is money, and would he really want a wife like that? He was acting more like a chauvinist teenager thinking with his penis than a mature man.
When Mia started working at the restaurant she still had her other job, which she was never at. There are comments about working two jobs and starting her business, but then the old job just seems to disappear, as if it was forgotten. Poorly done. Mia’s mother is too ridiculous to come across as believable without buildup. I did enjoy Holt’s meddling without saying a word and that he was planning a European vacation, as well as Mia’s talks with Carl, who’s growing and showing signs of his own arc. The story of Mia’s abuse is mostly realistic and I was glad to see Ms Seton had Mia follow through.
Not terrible, but I expect better.

In book eight in the Cowboys of Chance Creek series, Luke Matheson wants to marry his houseguest, Mia Start, and doesn’t understand why she’s keeping her distance from him. Mia loves Luke, but she’s pregnant with another man’s child. Since almost everyone in town doesn’t think she has the ability to raise a child alone, work two jobs, or start her own business, she decides to prove everyone wrong and earn a bit of respect. All the while, her cowboy has his work cut out for him in earning her love. I definitely enjoyed Mia’s transformation from a scared, childish girl to a stubborn woman who’s smart enough to run her own life without a man propping her up. Luke, unfortunately, dealt with a lot of insecurities where Mia was concerned, so he tried desperately hard to overcompensate. He often treated her like a kid who didn’t know her own mind, which made it hard for me to like him and even finish reading this book. The secondary cast is great as always. I loved all the practical jokes the heroes of the series kept playing on each other. Nobody knew who was doing what, but they kept arguing and hurting one another in revenge. Talk about hilarious. This is supposed to be the last book in the series, but there’s a Christmas addition that I’ll read soon. I have a few questions about some minor characters (What will happen to Camila? Carl? Will Lacey return?), so I hope those will be addressed in the next book. 3 Stars
This book opens with a confrontation between Mia and the father of her child, a meeting with an acquaintance from her pageant days . We then progresses to the breakfast at the Matheson ranch the day of Ned and Fila's wedding. A trip to Paris might be in the works for Lisa if Holt doesn't mind his own business when it comes to Luke and Mia.
When Autumn has her baby at home with only Mia and Luke present, Luke confesses he wants to marry her and for them to have a family. Mia confesses she's already pregnant and Luke finds himself angry, but not a Mia, at the man who did this to her.
Things come to a head at Ned and Fila's wedding though, busybodies can't help themselves and they out Mia's pregnancy. Luke is having none of it and comes to Mia's rescue.
Of course it's not going to be that easy. Mia decides she needs to take charge of her life. She wants to have a career of sorts and no one is taking her seriously. I love the way Mia gets a not only a make-over but starts an event planning business.
Luke isn't going to have an easy time convincing her to marry him and there's mysterious notes showing up as well.
Lots of fun and laughter as this story progresses and there's some tears as well. Oh and some very serious sizzle too.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Even though they have been sharing a cabin together, Luke is ready to start dating Mia, but he doesn't know her secret. Mia would be happy to marry Luke if he handles her secret ok. But then things go crazy and nothing is as it seems. Mia leaves and Luke is desperate to get her back. But every time he opens his mouth, he says the wrong thing. Will he ever be able to make things right? And what is behind all the crazy jokes lately?
The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and engaging. The emotional issues are a major part of the story. Read this series in order and then read Heroes of Chance Creek in order, then SEALS of Chance Creek, then Brides of Chance Creek and finally Turners vs Coopers, before starting the 2 new series set in Chance Creek: Holidays in Chance Creek and House for Sale Navy SEAL included.
This is book 8 can be read alone but better if you read from the beginning, This is story Luke and Mia. Luke set his goal on Mia being his wife. She’s everything he ever wanted. Problem he is worried he doesn’t have enough money to give her why she wants/needs. Mia is young pregnant beautiful . Her problem is this town talks. She wants Luke but he doesn’t know about the baby and his view on her working isn’t what she wants. These two have so much miscommunication hurt and passion for each other. Mysterious note appearing. 2 Visit from the past 1 who helps Mia with business, the other helps to close door on something that happened. Will these two be able to work through the difference they have find their way to the family/love they both want. This was good book I enjoyed reading can’t wait for next book.
This is an interesting story. Luke & Mia definitely had it rough I kind of felt bad for Mia throughout the book yet she persevered to get her business off the ground. Luke was being an a** in not helping Mia - putting her down. It took a lot of people to tell him he was doing wrong. He finally saw the way of his errors. Holt is a hoot! Even though he didn't talk what he wanted to tell his son but he sure got his message through to both Luke & Mia. So happy these two finally got their happily ever after. Great job Cora! I listened to this book in one day. The narrator did good. I would recommend this book!
Luke and Mia go through a lot of up and downs but will they be together in the end?
Luke lets Mia move into his guest room when she has to leave the Cruz ranch for a month. They both have feelings for each other but Luke makes some comments that have her believing he doesn't want kids. But she is keeping a secret from him and the longer she keeps the secret, the harder it is to tell him. She has to tell him soon or he will figure it out along with everyone else. Can they work things out and be together? Why is she meeting with Carl once a week and what does Luke think when he hears about it?
Definitely my least favorite in the series so far. I was not a fan of how the main characters were portrayed. Mia was childish for the majority of the book. Luke was decent wanting/trying to do the right thing even though Mia was bleh. I quickly got annoyed with the back and forthness. I liked Luke and Mia in the other books even though they had smaller roles. I just wanted the book to be over so I could finish the last book in the series.
This one falls into my least favorite in the series. I liked Mia in the other books. But she was super annoying in this one. I am not a fan of dramatic females and she was all about the drama. Luke was a little annoying too. He needed to put his foot down more often. I like my Hero’s strong and confident and commanding....but also sweet. And all the pranks.....some of which were downright mean....not a fan.
Fila is my favorite Heroine in this series. Cab is my favorite Hero in this series.
I enjoyed this book about Luke and Mia. Luke has shared a house with Mia for two months and he's ready to commit to her but Mia has a secret, she's pregnant with another man's child. She can't see marrying Luke only to break his heart when he finds out.
Luke finds out and still wants to marry Mia so she says yes only to change her mind and say no. Luke is heartbroken but he's determined to marry Mia. Now he has to grovel and find a way to change her mind so they can have they're happily ever after.
When two people want each other and will be together no matter what....well Luke and Mia may have feelings for each other but Mias pregnant with another man's baby. That's a deal breaker right? When the truth comes out Luke sees his chance and takes it. But what he doesn't expect is Mias independence. It's funny and filled with great secondary characters that really keep the story together and rolling forward. I was surprised I enjoyed this one as much as I did.
I’ve come to love Chance Creek. And the community that lives there. The Double BarK and Cruz Ranches. How the families and the town grow and expand around them. I swear the Cruz’s and the Matherson’s are trying to double the population of the area all on their own! Mia and Luke’s story was as rocky as it gets. Funny how people get in their own way so much.
She’s pregnant living with her guy friend and he doesn’t know about the baby. Each of them have feelings for the other but can’t show or express them in any way to move towards a good solid relationship. She has to grow up he has to stop being in control, but it’s a very rocky road to the altar.
Luke is now running the Double Bar K ranch. Because his brother Ned is recovering from broken leg. Mia his fiancée has broken off their engagement. She wants to make sure she’ll be able to make it on her own if she has to. Read to see all the latest trouble that happened.
Mia's secret comes out just when she starts to become happy. Luke doesn't take the news quite as well as expected. He tries to get her to see he isn't a bed guy but he keeps sticking his huge cowboy boots in his mouth.
Cora Seton writes the most amazing romance novels...and I've loved them all. The story of Luke and Mia will still your breath away; make you madder than a wet hen; and have you reaching for tissues in some places. This one is definitely a winner! ❤️
Loved it!!! At the beginning I cringed everyone Luke spoke to Mia, poor bloke put his foot in his mouth more times than I could count, but I was rooting for him all the way through. Brilliant story.
Good book, glad they were able to work through their childish games. Once Mia grabbed her backbone and Luke decided he didn't know everything it got good. It's sad that it took them so long to figure it out though.
I enjoyed this story about Luke and Mia. There were some laugh out loud moments, which I like. Some one was playing jokes and sending anonymous notes, which had me guessing who it was. It’s not till the end that I found out if I was wrong or right
The last of the Mathewson boys Luke. Wasn’t to sure about him at first but I was sold by the end. Mia is a tough lil cookie who knows what she wants and works to get it. Love at its best ❤️
Although I enjoyed this story it wasn't one of my favourites in this series. I think it may be because I had a hard time seeing Luke and Mia as a couple. I would still recommend this series though.
