A unique and entertaining read. Truly original. Mind Trap is a cross between Shutter Island and Memento. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, this book is for you!

There is so much more to this story than a bunch of power hungry Gifteds hunting down the newest Gifted. Rudy doesn't know who he can trust as he begins to realize his gifts. Mind games are aplenty as Rudy learns his lessons on his journey of self-discovery. But the biggest mind game of all comes at the end of the book. No spoilers here, but the author did a fine job of throwing in one last twist, wrapping up the story but leaving it open for a potential sequel.

This book has a solid story, and that is always the most important criteria when evaluating a book. The first few pages pull you in and pique your curiosity about how the story will unfold, and then the plot moves on with twists and turns and surprises. The story shows several layers of action: there is more to it than just a chase story. The author clearly has an extensive imagination and the intelligence to convey his creations.

The writing itself is pretty good. Although here and there it seems a little self-conscious, most of it flows easily enough that you are absorbed into the story and not interrupted by tripping over particular word choices or sentence structures. The shifts in scene are unusual, inventive, but not hard to follow.

The hero’s mentor is unusually characterized and certainly not a cliché or a caricature. Perhaps the most notable of the characters, he is worthy of appearances in future books. This story is complete in itself, but the author wisely allows for a sequel or even a series.

There is no pretense that this book is “high art” or the absolute best in its genre: it’s a story, meant to entertain and to carry a few ideas to think about. It succeeds on both counts; it is an entertaining book worth reading. The author shows talent and a fair amount of skill, and there is no doubt he is capable of growing a solid following.

I was given a free copy of Mind Trap for an honest review.

Mind Trap is the perfect name for this story. It is a very interesting concept and has several twist and turns. It drew me in and kept me reading.

I was rooting for main character, Rudy, from the beginning (Well done J.R. on character building). The story has an array of other various characters that are quite interesting, too. Kudos to the writer for doing a good job at describing not only their outward appearances but also what makes them tick from the inside.

The writing is told through the view points of many of the characters but there is usually some kind of break to let the reader know when the view point has changed. The one area that had me a little confused at first were the mind conversations but after reading a little ways into the story those fell into place.

I would recommend this book to anyone (age 16 and up) who likes to solve mysteries but be forewarned...it will cause your thoughts to scatter about wondering who Rudy should trust and what the heck is happening...thus the name Mind Trap!!!!

What would you think if the voices in your head told you secrets? What if you actually listened to the voices in your head? This is Rudy's experience. His journey is one of discovery and terror on the most base level. Rudy isn't sure if he's crazy or completely sane but needs to learn how to control what he hears. Mr. Kloom appears to have all of the answers to Rudy's most pressing questions. As Mr. Kloom instructs Rudy on the art of listening. Will Rudy finally understand? Your answers await you in Mind Trap.

Mind Trap is an intriguing look inside the mind where everything isn't always what it seems to be. I found the characters to be intriguing, in your face, and twisted. I found the story to be action packed and hit the ground running from page one to the end. I would definitely read more of this author's work in the future.

I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair review.

Honestly, I'm not sure what I think. The book was very confusing and seemed to do a lot of telling the reader what happened, especially at the beginning. But the last half of the book was so fast-paced, I was racing to keep up.

Everything was explained in the end, but through most of the book, I was very solidly confused.

I read the preview on Goodreads and got hooked. So I bought the eBook. I'm glad I did! This eBook is a lot of roller-coaster fun. It's imaginative, fast-paced and (at times) quite funny. It's definitely better than anything James Patterson has ever done. I'm hoping there's a sequel.
