Glenn Meade

Glenn Meade was born into a working-class family in Dublin, Ireland. After finishing secondary school he had a tough time choosing between studying theology or engineering, but eventually engineering won out and he studied telecommunications. Soon after graduating, he lived and worked in New Hampshire. He worked as a specialist in the field of pilot training—having had a life-long interest in aviation—and has also been a journalist for the Irish Times and the Independent.

While living in New Hampshire, he persistently tried to interview the famously reclusive author of CATCHER IN THE RYE, J.D. Salinger, an effort that only served to vex Salinger, who set his dogs on Meade, who luckily managed to outrun Salinger’s hounds and survive.
He began writing in earnest in the late eighties, when he wrote and directed his own plays, mostly for the Strand Theatre in Dublin, but Meade decided to turn his efforts to thriller writing in the mid-nineties.

His novels to date—SNOW WOLF, BRANDENBURG, THE SANDS OF SAKKARA, RESURRECTION DAY, WEB OF DECEIT, THE DEVIL’S DISCIPLE, THE SECOND MESSIAH—have been translated into twenty-six languages, and have enjoyed critical and commercial success.

His first novel, BRANDENBURG, about a neo-Nazi resurgence in present-day Europe, came about when he travelled to Germany to write an article for the Times on the billions in Nazi gold that went missing at the end of the Second World War. Quite by accident, he met an elderly former SS officer who told him a remarkable and highly personal tale about his part in keeping a disturbing war-time secret. That story became the inspiration for BRANDENBURG.
Several of his novels were also inspired by his journalistic work but inspiration only takes you so far and Meade claims that to produce anything of worth it always comes down to the same three constants: hard work, prayer, and putting your imagination through the wringer.

Critics have compared the standard of his work to that of Frederick Forsyth, John le Carre, and Tom Clancy, and his stories have tended to be a tantalising blend of fact and fiction. SNOW WOLF won the prestigious thriller of the year award by the Japanese Writer's Guild (second place went to Stephen King's THE GREEN MILE).

He has also worked on several Hollywood scripts but Meade confesses that employment in Tinsletown was not a pleasant experience and he has learned to stick to the golden rule for novelists whose work is bought by Hollywood—gratefully accept the pay check, walk away and just pray that they don’t turn your treasured story into a musical.

Meade has earned a reputation for meticulously researched stories and has travelled extensively—to Russia, the Middle East, Europe—to research his novels. For RESURRECTION DAY, a highly realistic thriller about a dramatic attack on the US capital by an Al Qaeda terror group armed with a chemical weapon of mass destruction, and completed three weeks before the events of September 11th, he spent many months in Washington DC. He interviewed senior White House staff, former Secret Service agents, US Federal emergency planners, and senior FBI terrorist experts, some of whom were later involved in the hunt for Al Qaeda terrorist suspects on US soil. One former senior FBI source, John O’Neill, who helped Meade, was killed in the September 11th attacks, having resigned from the bureau only months prior to taking up a new post—as head of security at the Twin Towers.

RESURRECTION DAY was published internationally but Meade’s then New York publisher considered it too raw a subject for the US, coming so soon after 9/11, and they parted company. However, the work garnered rave reviews and much media attention in Europe.
Having read the book, Newt Gingrich, then a member of the Hart-Rudd commission (set up post 9/11 by President George Bush with responsibility for determining future likely terrorist threats against the US) was so impressed that he contacted Meade and kindly offe

This would normally be right up my bloody street. Except I got bored with it. It's first person, which I usually associate with lots of action, but here things dragged. Things happen, of course, but they are are not engaging enough, for me.

The storyline/plot reads fairly well, but it is so wordy that you just want to kick the MC in the arse and tell her to just get on with it. This is one of those where no one trusts anyone, and everyone in the FBI is angry and distrusts everyone because they feel like it. The characters are cardboard cutouts, and I didn't care whether anyone lived or died. Orthe victims for that matter.

Maybe I have read too many of this type so they start to merge. Either way, it was not as enjoyable as I'd hoped.

Paris'deyken Kate'in arkasını araştıran diğer ajan Stone, Kate'in evinde bazı delliler bulur.

Oha lan noluyor diyeceksiniz. Zaten Glenn Meade'in en sevdiğim huyu sonunda çok acayip ters köşeler yapması...

Özetle alın, okuyun, okutun...

I’m a little puzzled that this author’s books have gotten positive reviews. I thought the writing was appalling. I’m not going to say any more as I don’t like being critical and I can’t think of anything worthwhile to say about this one.

“No night should be so cold, no winter so white, no death so chilling.”

From that first sentence I was hooked. I’ve never read anything by Glenn Meade before, several of his books have sat in my to be read pile for months now when finally on a cold Sunday afternoon I decided it was time for a mystery thriller to invade my mind. I love a female protagonist, and the moment FBI agent Kate Moran was introduced to me I was intrigued, to then find out she had lost her husband and his daughter to a serial killer that she had been hunting for 4 years had my heart reaching out to her.

“A killer was about to die by lethal injection and I am looking forward to his execution.”

Right from the start you know this is a real human being feeling real, raw human emotion. The man she has been hunting for so long is finally going to meet his end, she feels happy, she knows she is going to get to see it happen, all the other victims’ families will finally have peace. We are then taken on a journey back to his capture from the killer’s point of view. The change in point of view is welcome, I’ve always enjoyed delving into the twisted depths of a serial killer’s mind. They call him The Disciple, he hunts primarily for father and daughter, his ammo is ritualistic double slaughters, he dismembers his victims, places a crucifix on their bodies and burns them, leaving next to no evidence. He’s clever. He’s being doing this a long time. I love the way this author writes, he keeps things moving at a good pace, much like another favourite author of mine, James Patterson. I love the shorter chapters, I feel like I read quicker and am hungry for more when chapters are shorter.

Delving into Kate’s past had my heart racing and my eyes welling up, I’m a sap when it comes to books not so much with movies though. Once I’m involved with a character I feel their every emotion and Glenn writes so well I feel like I’m there experiencing everything first hand. By chapter 17 I had an idea formed in my mind as to where this story was headed, some theories just from other books I’d read and I can tell you now; I was completely wrong. In this case I was so happy to be wrong because it was such a beautiful twist, there is nothing better than being thrown completely off by an author.

I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves a good thriller, a little gore and unexpected twists. I loved every moment of this book and especially loved how every story was tied up neatly at the end. Bravo, Glenn Meade, Bravo.

Okay so I started this book when I was fourteen. It was the first book I started reading and bought that got me into reading again, after I came across it in the library when I had to read a book for school. I liked it, but as I got more into reading, which was, as I said, all because of this book, I started to first read other books. Once in a while, I read a couple of pages, but it wasn't interesting enough to me to finish, even though I really liked it, but it just didn't grab my attention as much as other books did. It was then that I marked it three stars. When I finished Trainspotting three days ago, I decided I wanted to finally finish this book, because it had been lying here way too long, taking in account that I'm seventeen now. It had been lying there for three years. Thing is, I found it quite boring. This was quite extraordinary to me, because there was happening so much in the book, but I just didn't seem to care about the story, mainly because of the writing style and the lack of personality of the main character, Kate Moran. All her decisions are basically the decisions most people in stories would make, but without the originality most characters show once in a while. This made the book, not the plot but just the book itself seem very predictable. The fact that in some parts the writer used the same phrase more than once for the same event made it just plain dull. Fortunately sometimes, especially in the end and the beginning, the writing suddenly got really poetic and beautiful, which compensated the rest a little bit. Still, I found the plot a bit too extended, especially the last bit.
Maybe it's because I changed that I don't really like it anymore, but it still gets three stars; I used to really like this book and it actually was what got me into reading again. It would just feel wrong to give it less stars.

I enjoyed the book, but I think it was unnecessarily long. Author also tried too hard to cast suspicion on too many characters, & I thought the 'extra' attack at the end was redundant. That said, it is still worth a read.

I liked it, but I think it's quite forgettable. There are Meade books that I still remember from years back, even if it's just the title and loving the book (e.g., Snow Wolf, Brandenburg), but this one I can hardly remember having listened to just 2 months later.
