When Arnold and Helga challenge each other for the position of fourth grade class president, they both desperately want to win, but they soon realize that there can be only one president.
This could have made a pretty good episode of the TV show. Everyone is very much written in character, which is not surprising as their creator wrote the book. The illustrations convey some intriguing characterisation as well, and add a lot to the book as a whole. There are also some nice insights into a few behind-the-scenes happenings that fans of the show may have been wondering about, such as Helga's need to rebuild her Arnold shrine from time to time.
I like the satirical slant on Helga's election campaign, which involves a series of ruthless character assassinations on her opponents while never once offering any reasons why she herself should actually get the job. We can clearly see the direction that Craig wants Arnold and Helga's relationship to take, which is pleasing, and he even manages to throw in a bit of emotional interaction for Gerald and Phoebe, which is scant in the TV show.
These are very nice little books that have obviously been crafted with care, and for what it is, I definitely judge this one to be very good!
