Ruin - The Complete Series

Rate this book
The NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestselling series in one bundle!

RUIN - Part One

Sitting next to a stranger on a flight from Boston to New York City alters the entire course of Kayla Monroe's life. In her quest to escape the pain of rejection she jumps into the bed of an irresistible man who offers her a night that she'll never forget.

Their connection is fierce and undeniable. When their paths cross again, a twist of fate brings her to the realization that the man she's using to mend her broken heart is Dr. Ben Foster, a compassionate and respected physician.

Warnings about his past threaten Kayla's future. She knows she should believe the rumors, but the moments she spends in his arms, and in his bed, wash away any doubt in her mind.

She sees a future with Ben but those closest to her won't let her forget that the man she's falling for has left a path of ruin in his wake that may impact her in a way she never saw coming.

RUIN - Part Two

Kayla Monroe had fallen hard and fast for Dr. Ben Foster. He was everything she needed and wanted after being dumped by the man she thought she loved. What started as a one night stand quickly turned into a blossoming relationship. Then the complications of his youth halt everything in its tracks.

The voices around her are telling Kayla that Ben isn't the man she thinks he is but her heart is telling her something completely different. She's drawn to him like a moth to a flame and as she listens as he explains his past, she sees the promise of a future with him that she desperately wants.

She's the thread that will weave a path for Ben back into the family he has lost. She senses it and as she takes on the task of releasing him from his burdens, she discovers that the man she has been sharing her bed with is, more complicated than she ever imagined.
Just as Kayla is about to step into her future with Ben, she ends up in a place where she's forced to accept a truth that she never knew existed.

RUIN - Part Three

Kayla Monroe felt safe in the arms of Dr. Ben Foster. He was helping her move past a broken heart and she was guiding him towards a reclaimed relationship with the brother he'd lost years ago. Their bond was unique, strong and bordering on a love that would change them both forever.

Then Kayla found herself thrust into the middle of a triangle she wanted no part of. She heard things that altered her reality completely. There's no one for her to rely on but herself and she has to decide whether a familiar voice from the past holds more weight than the promise of a future she can't quite grasp yet.

Trusting her heart has never been easy for Kayla. Trusting others has never been easy for Ben. Together they have to determine whether the sins of the past are too much to bear or whether a connection that is undeniable is worth the risk.

Deborah Bladon had never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She was a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you could often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan was definitely her second home.

She cherished her family and believed that each day was a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.

When this story started I thought it might be quite original. Girl has rebound sex with a rich stranger she met on the plane from Boston to new york. No Details exchanged, no promises made, just hot sex in a cheap hotel than a shower blow the next morning before they part ways. Then girl doesn't think about guy apart from wondering if she should tell her best friend, who's engaged, that she's back on the well shagged horse when she's being set up on a double date. Then it's revealed that the lucky guy has a twin brother he hasn't seen in years, and guess who walks back into the picture with a hot eurobabe on his arm, professing he hasn't been able to stop thinking about the girl he had a one nighter with.

The plot is predictable, a lot of the set up is overdrawn to try and build tension, only you're thinking 'let me guess, you idiot'. I couldn't get my head around the Main couple, she talks freely about wanting and having one nightstands, then within weeks she's utterly heart broken. She wants to know everything about him, but never gives anything in return. Almost all the time she pries for answers, but when she needed to do so, she only hears one side and then runs to a hotel and cries into a pillow. And when she hears to sides, she immediatly takes lover boys side because he told her so, because he's a doctor, he must be a saint. He, on the other hand, is a playboy doctor who's never been in love but seems to be drawn to a stranger on a plaine because she's pretty, then can't stop thinking about her because she was a great lay and gives good head.

If you can't tell, I'm a sceptic and a realist. Erotic Romances like this don't float my boat so don't take what i say to heart if you do like them. I'm sure this is right up your street.

A great read.
This is first book I read by this author and got to say I totally enjoyed it. This books ties into more of Deborah's books but totally works as a stand alone read.
Ben is such a sexy caring doctor....and full of charm...he just oozes sexiness (so hot, indeed!). Kayla is kind of like your average gal (so she could be me or you..so easy to imagine).
They really have an intense instant attraction that leads to a night of unforgettable passion that they can't forget. More passion follows along with some drama and heartbreak.
The book is very well written and has some pretty detailed sex scenes....they made me blush a little.
Overall an amazing read!

Ruin gets hot and heavy within a few scant pages (probably, I was listening to the audiobook. But though I can’t remember exactly how it started, having listened to the start a few days ago now, I’m pretty sure there was some graphic sex within the first few minutes) and stays that way most of the way throughout the novel.

It’s not romance for people who like ‘and then they went up to the bedroom’ followed by some mussed hair in the morning. It’s for people who like repeated declarations about characters feeling, tasting and being ‘so good’, don’t mind lots of use of the ‘c’ word (in an erotic, rather than abusive context) and don’t need a lot of emotional build up before the clothes start coming off.

The characters, obviously.

That said, there is a definite story to Ruin. It’s not an erotic novel of the sort that is all sex no substance. Kayla and Ben have their own personal dramas to overcome – dramas that quickly become intertwined, providing some good push and pull between them.

You can tell it was initially written to be broken up into three parts. Even if the audiobook hadn’t said ‘PART TWO’, I could have told you the exact chapter where the parts finished. Which makes for a slightly odd reading experience, as it’s like ‘DUN DUN DUN’ cliffhanger, then immediately you launch into the resolution of said cliffhanger.

It’s not badly written at all, it’s just written for the serialised format (and would work great that way – I doubt many readers would have been able to not pick up the second and third instalments after being left hanging on those endings for a few weeks!) and therefore the story doesn’t follow the conventional structure you might expect from a romance novel. In fact, the story is well written enough that the drama between the characters makes sense, and doesn’t ever feel forced – which is my chief complaint about romance/erotica novels.

No, the characters are well rounded, the sex exceptionally steamy and the drama of the variety that elevates the sexual tension, rather than being there for the sake of it, or worse, detracting from the delicious chemistry that we read romance to for.

Overall, an enjoyable read, with all the right notes to thrill fans of the genre, if a little unconventional in its structure.

I was in the mood for light and steamy, and this one delivered.
Didn't really feel the brotherly love or the twinsies thing, and I was hoping. We also didn't get much on the mother's illness and the whole oxygen deprivation thing. Which was weird to me because it was the crux of the issues between the brothers - and to me at least turned out to be a nonissue. This turned out to be more about loyalties and trust. But the drama resolved itself pretty easily and got a little too sappy toward the end. But overall, I enjoyed this one.

Awwww what a wonderfully written story! Another smashing hit with drama, comedy, and romance. Kayla and Bens characters are so compelling and complex. Their personal tragedies and struggles are so intense and the way they support each other through those struggles is so encouraging and motivating.

Heartwrenching Love Story

The twists and turns this series took was both unexpected and heartwrenching. Kayla and Ben were characters that you can't help but love and empathize for their love for each other and their families. A must read for any romance reader.

so familiar

I feel like I’ve read this story before… I couldn’t place it, but everything was SO familiar. Either way, I enjoyed it. It took a bit for me to grasp the way it was art turn, but, as soon as that happened I read through until I finished the book.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

3.5 STARS

Holy plot twists!!! Going into Ruin, I really had no idea what to expect. I’ve never read Deborah Bladon’s books or listened to Angela Starling’s narrations, but what I got in this audiobook, I really enjoyed. I couldn’t stop listening to this! It’s sexy, fast-paced, and full of twists and turns you never see coming. There’s pretty much never a dull moment in Ruin. I’m so glad the series was bundled up in this audiobook because I know I wouldn’t be able to stand the cliffhangers and waiting for the next part. If you’re looking for a steamy romance audiobook that will have you biting your nails and on the edge of your seat, I’d recommend this one!

On her way back to New York after being dumped out of nowhere by her love and long-time boyfriend, Kayla Monroe rebounds with a one night stand with the gorgeous, sexy man she met on the plane. She never expects to see Ben again, except it turns out that he is Dr. Ben Foster, estranged twin brother of Kayla’s best friend’s fiancé. Their paths inevitably collide again, and the passion and chemistry they had when they first met comes roaring back as if they never went their separate ways. And then feelings get involved, but how could they not when Ben is kind, compassionate, sensual, and all-around an amazing man? But there are secrets surrounding his past and the mysterious reasons why his brother Noah hates him. When Kayla finds out what those dark secrets are, will she have the strength to stand by the man she’s beginning to fall for?

In the midst of building a relationship with Ben, Kayla is caught in the middle between one twin trying to gain forgiveness and acceptance, and the other twin trying to get answers. She’s endlessly surprised by all the twists and turns of Ben and Noah’s past, and the poor girl never catches a break. Thankfully, anytime she and Ben are together, everything is sweet and wonderful between them. Their romance would definitely be my favorite thing about Ruin. One big thing that got on my nerves though, were Noah and Alexa’s characters. I really couldn’t stand them and their judging ways. And since they take up such a big part of the story, that affected the way I enjoyed listening to the audiobook.

Luckily, Angela Starling did a wonderful job of narrating Kayla’s POV, so I have no complaints about that aspect of the audiobook. I would definitely listen to another of her narrations! Overall, I’d say Ruin is great audiobook – it’s not perfect and I didn’t fully love it, but it had me seriously hooked onto the story.

As always I will say that the thing I love most about Deborah Bladon's books is the world she works in. She's created a world rich with characters and this book brings two more into the mix, Ben and Kayla. Bladon's books aren't the longest but I sort of like that. I like the fact that I read them in a night and she leaves me hanging on a cliff waiting for the next one. Her characters are always complex and unique. The story starts when Kayla has sex with a stranger she met on a plane from Boston to New York. No names. No promises. Nothing except sex. Except suddenly the guy turns out to be twin brother's with her best friend's fiancee and apparently he hasn't stopped thinking about her since their night together.

Ben, fucking sexy hot doctor man is full of charisma and charm. He's HOT! Kayla is pretty and fun. Their attraction is immediate and insanely intense. There were a ridiculous number of plot twists and there was never a dull moment. On the surface everything is great. Ben is kind and compassionate - he's a fricking doctor. But he has secrets and his brother Noah absolutely loathes him but the question is why! Ben and Kayla go on a journey of discovery as those dark secrets are exposed and Kayla has a choice to make.

Kayla and Ben’s story is the absolute best one so far because the plot is excellently crafted, their chemistry is off the charts, and the character development is exceptional. There are always different sides to every story and I was really torn between Noah’s perception of tragic events and the actual reality of Ben’s involvement in them. Kayla’s torn loyalties between her familial relationship with Alexis and Noah and her growing connection with Ben are fully explored, beautifully written, and deeply compelling. We first got glimpses of Ben’s character in the Vain series and I love how the two series are fully intertwined into a complicated storyline between all four characters. I do have to mention that I was a little disappointed that the author failed to include a reunion between Ben and his father at the end of this story but overall I really loved Ben and Kayla’s romance.

Really enjoyable book!
I must admit I didn't check what order the different series should be read in, but even without having read Alexa's or Sadie's book, it didn't detract from this story and I really enjoyed it.
I'm looking forward to ready the other related series.

I almost feel like the plot and the writing should be reviewed separately for this story. The plot was really good; there were twists I wasn't expecting and it was well thought out and logical. The writing, on the other hand, reminded me of a heart monitor hooked up to a dead patient. Beeeeeeeeeeeeep - there was no pulse. Emotional things were happening to the characters, but I didn't feel any of the heartache, joy, nerves, or indecision that should have been coming through the pages. It was all grey and flat.

Book

I liked all the inner workings, underlying motives, but I didn't like that some details were made to seem important when they weren't, and the lack of focus at the end. They spend practically the whole book talking about this wedding, then nothing comes of it. The same thing goes for the other best friend Sadie, you hear things about her or references but nothing ever comes of it. Three stars good story, not a favorite.

OMG!! "Dr. Ben Foster....I'm here to make a house call." Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!! Ms. Bladon does not disappoint! Along with Kayla,I slowly fell in love with Dr.Foster, and by the time I got to Ruin 3 I couldn't get enough of him! Deborah's stories suck you in from the very beginning and its a rollcoaster of emotions that you ride along side each character. I'm a huge fan...now and forever!

Touching and wonderful

I loved the continuation of Alexa and Noah in this story but also the budding relationship of Kayla and Ben and Noah and Ben. This was so touching and heartwarming with trust, faith, and belief in each other. It was very easy to fall in the story and feel like you were there with them.
