Following Her by Melody Anne was cute, sweet and funny!!! Though this book is a novella, Ms. Anne was able to give her readers a full story that wasn't rushed at all. If you are fan of two opposites finding love, then this quick summer romance read is the book for you. Ella Brooks is a strong-willed, independent and stubborn attorney who has to testify on her former boss after hearing something that she was not supposed to. Being stubborn, she refused the help and protection that her cousin offered so her cousin had to recruit his partner, FBI Agent Axel Carlson to keep an eye on her. As it turns out, Ella was one stubborn lady but luckily for her, Axel is just as stubborn and refuses to leave till the case is over and her safety is no longer a threat. So can a woman and man who are equally stubborn have the walls surrounding their hearts come crashing down? Will Ella be able to testify the truth...that she loves Axel Carlson?

#followingHer_melodyanne

Who doesn't love a quick, sweet romantic read that leaves a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your soul? A read that while short, was still packed full of so much goodness that it flt like a full length novel.

Melody Anne has a talent of putting just the right sweet romance, humor and sexual tension together to create a truly fun read that is perfect for a weekend get-a-way.

Packed full of everything we romance readers love, this truly was a delight to read, savor, and enjoy.

2.5 - "Lady, you're ruining everything." Stars.

I seem to have fallen out of love with this authors writing style, either that or it has drastically changed over the last couple of books. I absolutely adored the first few stories in the Unexpected Heroes series, but Following Her even more so than its predecessor Her Hometown Hero felt really stilted and lacking in both story flow and character feeling when I was reading it.

Case in point, does any woman want to hear the following from her lovers’ lips whilst they are doing the horizontal tango?

”I’m very grateful to get to know you.”

The other thing I struggle with, and not just with this book, but in all books, is where the main heroine is a supposedly well-educated and savvy woman, but then goes on to make one stupid decision after another.

”You should be smart enough to be afraid.”

Or even worse, out and out denial of the facts, and refusing to accept what is blatantly obvious to pretty much everyone else in the book, and Ella was suffering from both, it made her really hard to like or empathise with.

Sadly Agent Axel Carlson, read like a man acting how a woman would want him too, and not like a man behaving as a man would do. I struggled to find much of a connection between this pair, and the only real time they really came across as attracted or attached to each other was when Ella knocked him upside the head after mistakenly thinking him an intruder.

There are more books due in the Unexpected heroes series, Her Forever Hero is scheduled for release in February 2016, will I read it… I honestly cannot say either way at this point.

This book is perfect for when you're having a bad day, your in your room on a Friday night and you have to servings of ice cream and some trashy writing. That is exactly what I did last night.
Be prepared to dive into some hilarious dialogues such as, "his lips finally seeking hers and sealing the promises to each other" or "you foolish foolish man, it's me who can't live without you." They just make the book that much better.

This was a short cute read. Ella is an attorney who is testifying against her ex boyfriend/ former boss. Axel is an FBI agent who is on leave. Although Ella is receiving threats she doesn't think it's necessary for Axel to be there but he is doing a favor for his best friend who happens to be Ella's cousin.

When these two meet you can see the attraction but Ella has made mistakes in the past so she is holding on to her heart. I really did like Ella. She was smart, funny and cool under pressure. Ella also had a feisty side that Axel brought out of her.

They were adorable at times and finally when Ella gives Axel a chance I was happy. I was starting to feel bad for the guy. This book didn't have much of a suspense but it still had some moments that had me guessing what would happen to Ella next.

This story had some cute and funny parts. One of my favorite parts is when Ella catches Axel sneaking around her bushes checking her security alarm. It actually had me giggling.

Even though this book was short it didn't really feel like I was cheated out of anything. The characters were interesting and the plot was different. I enjoyed the ending and liked the fact it took place at thanksgiving. Normally I don't like when a book ends in a engagement but with this one I was satisfied especially when he shows up to her families house.

If you enjoy sexy FBI agents and a heroine who is cool under fire this is the book for you. I can't wait to read more of this series to see whose book will next.

ARC REVIEW

More Melody Anne greatness. This Contemporary Romance has a touch of suspense, it still focuses on the romance and seduction between Ella and Axel but the reason they are thrown together is a bit of suspense. I always enjoy reading Melody Anne she is always easy and gratifying read.

Ella got involved with the wrong guy, and also her boss. When she found out all the illegal stuff he was involved in she quit and immediately went to the DA with everything she knew, now her life is being threatened and whiles she thinks she has it handled her cousin is worried and calls in a favor from his partner. Axel is supposed to be on vacation instead he is babysitting Ella, but one look at Ella and he's a goner. Ella doesn't need a babysitter and she doesn't need to fall in love with an FBI agent but despite his highhandedness to protect her she still falls for the FBI bad boy.

Ella is fearless and she thinks she has it handled but Axel knows better and goes above and beyond to keep her alive. In the end Ella's hardheadedness just might get her killed.

Overall, this was a quick and enjoyable read. I really love everything of Melody Anne's that I have read.

This was a fun book to read. Ella Brooks dated a man wanted by the police. The information she has on him makes her a target. Her cousin is worried about her safety and asked one of his best friends to keep her safe, and watch out for her. Axel is an FBI agent that is on vacation. He agrees to cut his vacation short, because he owes Bryson. Ella is fierce. She stands up to the bullies. She doesn’t need a body guard. Axel decided to date her thinking that would be a fun way to keep her close. The two really did hit it off. I really did enjoy this book!

A cute book

This is the 4th book in the series and it was very good. The H was asked by his FBI partner to protect his cousin who was being threatened. The h is a lawyer who is feisty, beautiful and smart, she was a witness but she wasn’t taking the threats seriously. They had great chemistry and found their HEA.

I really enjoyed this one very much. I had hoped that this book would be Cam and Graces story as it was hinted at so much in the previous book. Hopefully we will get that story soon.

Enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book. Axel agreed to help protect Ella. She isn’t taking the threats against her seriously. They were cute together. He really fought his feelings but it turns out they can’t live without each other. Looking forward to next book in this series.

Another unreasonably stupid heroine. Does this author know only how to write books with stupid, dim-witted heroines or she just doesn't know better?

Ella Brooks and Axel Carlson have nothing in common other than they serve the law. She being a lawyer and him an FBI agent. Oh and one other thing, Axel happens to be her cousin, Bryson’s partner and best friend. They are such good friends Axel was only a couple of hours into a much needed two week break when he got the call that Bryson needed his help.
You see Ella was working at a law firm where the senior partner took an interest in her. They dated for a while but it just wasn’t working out, so she broke it off and quit the firm. Well, Felix was not a happy man because she saw, heard and knew too much. Things that could cause him and a few judges he had in his pocket a lot of trouble and to go down. So, he had been sending Wade to scare her. It did and she talked to Bryson, but she wouldn’t go to his house or take the FBI protection. Off duty he called Axel because Bryson was on a case and couldn’t be there himself.
Bryson knew Ella wasn’t taking the threats from Felix and his side kick Wade serious enough so he called in the favor that Axel owed him. Bryson had every reason to worry. Although a grand overpriced home there was no security whatsoever. Ella was a sitting duck. Axel had to say Ella had a pair on her for a woman. Bryson said she was tough and would try to run him off. To stick with her no matter what this Felix character was bad news.
Their first meeting was not a good one considering he let himself in with the key Bryson had given to him only after ringing and knocking three different times. Ella was nice enough to have programed the coffee to go off while she was in the shower. So, by the time she came down he was on his second cup. She had no clue he was there by the way she was dressed and that she started pouring herself a cup when he spoke. Yeah, not a good beginning.
Not taking her eyes off him after have words and introductions she reaches for the phone and dialed Bryson. After more choice words with him she agrees to allow him to put a security system in place, only! Yet she knew and Axel knew that was never going to happen. By the looks of Axel he was not going to be good for her girl parts or her heart. I love the bantering that goes on between the two main characters. The author shows their strengths as well as their weaknesses. Yet, neither goes for the others jugular. Even with Ella saying she doesn’t like him. When she sees his insecurities she moves away from the subject they were on to another all together to deflect. This was everything you would want a world wind romance to be. With bantering, laughing, and romance. All lifelong gifts for a fun future. I give this 5 stars. Provided by Netgalley.com.

Though short in its length, Melody Anne made Following Her a very satisfying read. It was sweet, funny and an unexpected surprise, a hint of suspense.

Ella's life is in danger with death threats as she works on a legal case against her ex-boyfriend. Death threats have been issued, and her cousin Bryson convinces his FBI friend to check up on her. Axel plans to guard Ella from afar but as luck would have it, he can't stay away from her. Despite Ella's protest, the attraction between them cannot be denied, and Axel is persistent to keep her safe and win her heart.

This book was such a fun read. I love that Ella was independent and because, of her jaded past, she is cautious about getting involved. She wasn't annoying and didn't overact, simply a very smart heroine. Of course, Axel stood out the most. He made me laugh with his flirtings, innuendos and persistence to woo Ella. He was so easy to fall in-love with. The hint of suspense surprised me. I was afraid that it would overtake the romance but Melody did a great job completing the story without any issues.

This novella is a stand alone, and I recommend trying it if you've ever wanted to give this author a try or if you're just looking for a new series to follow.

I have loved this Unexpected Heroes series and this novella is a sweet little addition. I was worried with the plot laid out at the beginning that the book would be rushed to fit so much into so few pages. However, it’s paced pretty well. There were a couple of spots where I had stop for a minute and look back, thinking I’d missed some pages because of a jump in the timeline. Overall though, I enjoyed Axel and Ella’s story.
I fell for Axel right away. He has such a charming a personality and a sweet, boyishness mixed in with the sexy alpha. I loved that he didn’t fight his attraction to Ella, instead he was determined to break down her walls. He is fierce and protective, making a woman feel safe and loved. I felt like his reaction to things later in the book were not the best choice for the author, they seemed to contradict who he was for the rest of the book. That’s all I can say without a spoiler.
Ella was an interesting mix of annoyance and admiration. To be honest, it didn’t really change much until the end. Ella is strong, fiercely independent, and courageous. However, her stubborn belief that she is not in danger drove me a little crazy. As did the staunch resistance in seeing where things could go with Axel. In the beginning, I understood it, but I felt like Axel proved himself quite a bit before she chose to let down her walls.
Ella’s friends are adorable and they brought a fun dynamic to the story as well. I do love a good HEA and this is definitely a warm fuzzies ending. Following her is a fun little addition to the series.

Ella Brooks is an attorney. She's in the process of testifying against her ex-boyfriend/boss. Learning awful things about him while they were together has made her leery of trusting men. She's also in danger but she refuses to be bullied into dropping out of the case. Her cousin Bryson is worried about her and he sends FBI agent Axel Carlson to follow her and help her be safe. Ella isn't too happy about it. Yes, the man is fine but she has walls bigger than the Wall of Game of Thrones.

Axel is on leave. He hasn't been happy with his job for a while now. He welcomes a chance of scenery and he's happy to help his friend Bryson Winchester when he asks him to protect Ella. He's attracted to her and he doesn't hide it. Convincing her to give them a chance is another story.

Sweet short story! Both of the characters were likable despite Ella's stubbornness. She was so sure she wasn't in danger, when she clearly was. Axel was an alpha but he listened to her. I like him. I also liked Ella's girlfriends Maycie and Reese.

Sweet and sexy, 'Following Her' is a gorgeous addition to the 'Unexpected Heroes' series, telling the story of the controlling FBI agent Axel and the stubborn, independent young lawyer Ella who is under his protection whilst she is the witness in her exes prosecution trial.

This was a lovely little story which you can easily read in an evening. It has all the elements that make a good solid romance, and I loved getting into both Axel and Ella's minds as they begin to let down their defences and learn that sometimes it's OK to work as part of a team and not just by yourself.

I loved the prosecution trial storyline, and was on tenterhooks each time Ella found herself being threatened. The way that her closest girlfriends rallied around her and held her together in her lowest points was so great to read. As much as I loved the closeness that Ella and Axel grew to have, I loved how real Ella's life was outside Axel, and how to her, her friends were just as important to her.

4 stars only because I really wish this story could have been a longer one, or spread out into a novel size. I would have loved to have felt Ella grow more and more threatened by her ex as time went on, and to see a slower burn of her relationship with Axel. Nevertheless, a solid read which I thoroughly enjoyed.

4 Stars.

I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am a fan of Melody Anne so when I had the opportunity to request this book for review I jumped on it. This is a short novella that is part of the Hometown Heros series. When Ella overhears something she is not supposed to hear about her nefarious boyfriend she is in need of protection. Enter FBI agent Axel Carlson. Ella is less than enthused about having Axel as a bodyguard - she can take care of herself. However, as the story unfolds that in addition to being sexy, Axel also has an amazing heart.

As with all Melody Anne novels or novella's the story is well written and has a nice pace. Even thought it is short, you don't feel like the story is rushed or that you are missing anything in terms of the plot. Ella is a strong and independent woman, keeping in traditon about the strong heroines that Melody Anne writes. And in that same tradition, Axel is a strong, sexy hero that doesn't disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. It was a quick, fun summer read and I will definitely continue to follow Melody Anne.

This installment stars Axel Carlson and Ella Brooks and of course our cast of Match Makers that we get to catch up with.

Alyssa Brooks (book 1) is Ella's sister. Ella is an attorney and was dating Felix her boss at the law firm. When she overheard something damming statements that he made, she is in big trouble because he finds out that she went to the DA and has became their star witness. Now this x-boyfriend has hired someone to make sure she does not testify against him.

Ella does not take this serious, but her cousin, Bryson Winchester, who is also FBI, sends his partner Axel Carlsen to protect her, even if Ella does not want it. As time goes on, Axel sees that someone is following her and knows that he must protect her even if she does not want him to.

There is hot sizzling passion that both do not know what to do, but they finally give into this. This is a must read. I love all of Ms. Anne’s books and this one may have you on the edge of your seat when the bad guys to too close to Ella.

Don’t get me wrong! I love Melody Anne and literally read almost all her books. Somehow “Following Her” just did not seem like Melody Anne and did not ping my heart unfortunately.

Part of her Unexpected Heroes Series, “Following Her” brings Ella Brooks under the protection of FBI Agent Axel Carlson. Coming into knowledge of some shady dealings of her ex-boyfriend/boss, Ella gets into the crossfire of a trial and threats to her life doesn’t seem to faze her. Yet Axel will do anything to protect her and with attraction flaring between a stubborn, independent woman and an equally tenacious and sexy guy, it seems that Axel would follow her to convince of their chemistry to forever.

Somehow I couldn’t connect with these two. Maybe because it’s a short novella and the characters needed more working. But all in all, it is an okay read, I mean this Melody Anne and she writes some fabulous romances and I totally loved her new one coming out “Safe In His Arms”.

I really enjoy reading Melody Anne's books, but I am getting a little bit over the sickly sweet Hallmark endings.
I mean, yes I want a happy ending but if I'm reading it and thinking "oh god this is so cliché and corny" then it is extremely cliché...

On the bright side...I loved the rest of the book, Axel was a great character. Now Ella...I had issues with her. She was for lack of a better word a raging bitch, and extremely naive about her own safety. Which by the way almost got her BFF's almost injured or worse...killed.
There were moments when I questioned why Axel was sticking around.
Ella warms up later in the book for the most part, which thank god for that because she was naive up until the end.

Regardless on my views being good, bad or neutral this book was well written and the plot well executed, especially for as short as the story was. That plus the fact that (even though the were things i didn't like) I enjoyed the book overall is why I am giving it a 4 star rating.

This is another book that is apart of the Unexpected Heroes Series

Ella was one hell of a woman Axel definitely wouldn’t mind shadowing all day and all night. Especially when it comes to night.

Meet Ella Brooks. Ella is one strong-willed, very independent, and extremely stubborn. Ella's huge problem is that when she hears something she’s not supposed to about her shady boyfriend, she realises that her safety is at risk. To very much her dismay, Ella's cousin sends in FBI Agent Axel Carlson to keep an eye on her and to keep her safe. Ella’s so darn determined to resist the infuriatingly sexy and hot bodyguard. Ella thinks that she can take care of herself! Ella will soon discover that what lies beneath the six-pack abs, amazing biceps lies a totally and equally amazing heart. Will the mysterious threat keep Ella and Axel from finding happy ever after?

I need more than 5 *s but again need to settle for 5. I'd recommend this author and all her books

It was more 3 1/2 for me.

Ella is strong willed woman who needs protection from her ex boyfriend/boss whether she wants it or not. Her cousin Bryson believes she needs one so he sends his best friend and partner Axel. He is cocky, tall and handsome and he knows it.
At first i wasn't sure if i liked him. He was too cocky for my taste.
But when it comes to his work, he gives 100% and he is good at it. He doesn't believe in relationships but this assignment is different for him.
They are slowly falling for each other fast while her ex boyfriend's case coming to an end.
But they have to be aware of their situation. She is afraid she will be another one of his companion while he is protecting her.
will they come together and love forever.
it was short and fun summer read.

Received a copy of the title in exchange for an honest review.

After reading FINDING FOREVER, I wasn't quite sure how I was going to feel coming into this book. I have to say, though, that the length of this novella paired with Melody's writing style worked very well together.

This was a short, sweet contemporary where every aspect of a good contemporary were hit on -- emotion & love being the obvious big ones.

I loved Axel's character and wouldn't have minded seeing more of him (longer book, sassy minds). Law was definitely the right field for strong, independent Ella -- but we get to witness how much strong and independent can get a person into trouble.

I was glad I took a chance on this book! I'm learning to like Melody's simplistic way of writing.

Following Her is a short, sexy story that has the feel of a full length novel.

Ella Brooks is a young, strong-willed lawyer that heard something about her boyfriend/boss that she shouldn't of and now is in trouble. With the trial of her ex boss/boyfriend getting closer, her cousin send Axel Carlson, a FBI agent that is on a much-needed vacation. Axel is instanstly attracted to the independent, fiesty Ella, but the more time he spends with her, the more he admires her courage and determination to see this through.

RATING: 4 out of 5
