For Jamie, genderfluidity has always meant living in the in-between—until a swipe on MonsterFling introduces them to Nym, a dangerous yet fascinating mimic who can shift not just their form, but Jamie’s entire perception of reality.
What begins as a hookup quickly becomes a night of otherworldly exploration when Nym’s shapeshifting body and fluid identity perfectly complement Jamie’s comfort with transformation. As Nym molds their form to Jamie’s desires—pushing the boundaries of pleasure and anatomy—Jamie discovers what it’s like to be fully seen and celebrated for who they are, in every sense.
But Nym isn’t just an alluring stranger. Beneath their mesmerizing shifts and alien allure lies loneliness and a vulnerability that resonates deeply with Jamie’s own experience of navigating a world that doesn’t quite understand them. As their mutual curiosity sparks into something more profound, Jamie finds themselves questioning whether this one-night connection could be the start of something impossible yet real.
In this spicy queer monster romance, a genderfluid human and a shapeshifting mimic blur the lines between identity, intimacy, and what it means to truly connect. Fluid desires meet transformative pleasure in a story that proves the best connections break all the rules.
One Night With A Sometimes love isn’t about fitting into boxes—it’s about breaking them.
Author's The ending of this short story is Happy For Now.
Another short in this series. These two characters had so much depth and desire, in their need for more out of life. Jamie meets Nym and they literally mold together, each overcoming their emotional sides to come together for more than a one off meeting. I didn’t connect with this one as strongly as the earlier reads, but it was still quite lovely. I enjoyed the narrator and Jamie’s character growth over such a short time. As a gender-fluid person, Jamie struggles to find connections that aren’t rooted in fetishization, so meeting Nym on MonsterFling opens up unexpected possibilities. What begins as a one night stand hints at something deeper as they explore each other mind and heart into the early morning hours. As I’ve noticed the banter is fantastic, and Lola’s characters truly know how to speak to and soften one another. "Is that what you're after? A proposal?" Their tone is teasing, but I detect a note of genuine curiosity beneath it. I snort, forcing my eyes open to look at them. "After one night? I'm not that easy." "No, you're not," they agree, suddenly serious. "You're not easy at all. You're complicated and fascinating and utterly unlike any human I've encountered in a very long time.".

What a change in monster!!!! Thank you Lola Bliss and Booksprout for the chance to read this eARC and share my thoughts, because I have a lot of them!
I LOVE the change to a scary monster! I've read mainly cozy-ish or hot monster romances, but a monster that is genuinely terrifying and comes with health warnings?!?!? That is so fun!!!
Nym (it/they) is a mimic, meaning it can be anything that Jamie (they/he, genderfluid) could desire, could be terrified of, and everything he can't comprehend. An extra dimensional being, pure potential and possibility somehow contained but not contained at all. It is genuinely scary, but Jamie is into it.
This novella has the hallmarks of a great Lola Bliss piece: a unique monster, an unexpected connection, queerness, a touch of wholesome, and hot smut! I am going to be thinking about this monster for a long time.
"I can taste your thoughts, you know. The darker the better."~Nym
Are you ready to meet Nym?
When Jamie met and watched the kaleidoscope of colors, the luminous being that was shapeshifter Nym, I wondered if this would be a darker romance with the monsterfling dating app b/c Nym was a mimic of wonder and full of mystery.😯 Even with sharp teeth.hehe I understand why Jamie couldn't look away. How could you? Nym's thoughtful responses and ever changing shifts gave this otherworldly embodiment to their personality. Nym was an unexpected surprise. Stars. Galaxies. There's so much to Nym. I get the attraction they both shared. These 2 characters showed how fluidity can reach unexpected heights and what it means when another can see all aspects of you and want to discover more. I think they were well matched.🤩😚
I hope Nym enjoyed those pancakes Jamie made in the morning. Who knows, maybe Nym has a surprise to share with Jamie later on. I enjoyed their story. It was well written. Nym is a character I won't forget any time soon.😁 Nicely done, Ms Bliss. I do like the book cover. Happy reading.*•>§<•*💙🩶💙🩶
🫂🥞💫Thank you to Ms Bliss and Booksprout for an early book. The opinions shared here are my own.💫🥞🫂
These monster romances are really opening my eyes to how much I’d enjoy the chance to date inter dimensional beings. A mimic sounds so cool! Especially one who knows their limits and how not to get lost in mimicking. I’m not genderfluid but I do feel like parts of me shift because of past life influence. And I think it’s beautiful that who you are can change by the minute, it’s such an enlightenment of sorts.
This also sounds like having a sentient intimacy manifester with deep feelings who can shift to give both parties the utmost pleasure. I enjoyed this book, it’s not my favorite in the series but it’s a super solid entry. I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest review. 4.5 stars.
Another incredibly beautiful novelette from Lola Bliss! I just love that the Monsterfling app brought these two together. Nym & Jamie’s time shared is moving, captivating and slightly dangerous. They both are beings; one very human and one very mystical, of fluidity and have never felt so seen until meeting eachother. I love how Jamie’s curiosity only encourages Nym’s own experience and emotions. Nym is truly unlike any monster I’ve read about and I find myself craving so much more from their journey! Lola pays so much attention to details and truly cares about queer representation and body positivity. Her writing can provide much needed care, support, acceptance and encouragement to the queer community. 💗🫂
Personally sending Lola flowers for introducing me to a monster romance I literally never thought I needed until now 🤣 (in the least creepy way) I never could’ve expected how incredibly erotic and masterful spicy scenes with a mimic could be. I think literally the only time I’ve ever read about mimics were horror stories (and not the fun spicy kind) and now I’m 100% on a search for this sub-trope. But what an absolute master class of gender fluid expression this novella is. It’s absolutely filled to the brim with kind and honest communication and more knowledge than most bring to their writing.
This story explodes what happened when a gender fluid human hooks up with a physically fluid mimic on a dating app called MonsterFling.
Nym, the mimic is able to shift their shape at will, which means they can change their physical form to bring the greatest pleasure possible to both their partner and themselves
This leads to a deeply intimate and extremely spicy encounter when Nym hooks up with Jamie via the app.
I absolutely love how respectful all these stories have been, with their exploration of different gender and sexuality expressions. I'm continually excited to see what is coming next.

This book moved me. Yes, it's hot (of course!), but the joy of exploration within the scope of being 'fluid' - both in the Monster and genderfluid terms - was so heartfelt that I was welling up several times as I read. These are perhaps the most human monsters in all of this fiction category, I think.
Lola always manages to inform and inspire as well as share some top levels of spice, and here she's surpassed herself. Just beautiful.
I was kindly sent an early copy of this book, but the above opinions are entirely my own.
Unique Fluidity Jamie doesn’t like categorization, sometimes he/him, sometimes they/them, always unique and fluid. When on Monster Fling, Jamie finds Nym, a dangerous mimic who can be anything and anyone. These two are both delicious and fascinating together, and their conversations truly bring to light the human condition and reflect on our perceptions of stability and change. Jason Torres was absolutely delightful to listen to - I completely fell into this short story.
Fluid Connection makes me feel really emotional in the best way, to relate to characters in this way, how well they were written, it was just so soo good. I need more!
We get to spend the night with Jamie and Nym, their fun night together and their deep conversations. We get a deeper insight to this universe I found really cool and interesting.
A genderfluid human meets a mimic alien and they explore what it means to be fluid. It was a short story of a hookup but there was actually a really good dialog between the two and what it means to be interchangeable. Very interesting.

This is spicy queer monster romance a monster Nym who can mimic whoever she’s wants right down to their personality and a genderfluid human Jamie. Jamie decided to swipe right on Monster fling and meet up with Nym
Awesome short read where gender is a non issue. The ability to shift and be seen, comfortable, and respected for that is beautiful. Lola Bliss rocks another lgbtq+ romance. Spice and respectful reverence.

Jamie and Nym met on MonsterFling, and what starts as a hookup quickly turns into something deeper as the two of them find a connection they never believed existed. For Jamie, it’s understand in their genderfluidity. And for Nym, it’s someone to understand what it’s like to shift at a moment’s notice – physically rather than mentally, considering they’re a mimic. Who knew that a swipe on MonsterFling would allow them to both find someone who understands them?
This was spicy – I mean, we start right in the middle of the action and backpedal to get the full picture as to how they got to this point. I really love Nym and the fact that they had no problem talking about what it’s like to be forever changing. I liked the two of them together and the bond and connection that they forged. It was short and sweet and a little spicy, I just wish there was a little more plot, but I liked it for what it was. Would recommend.
I loved this book and it's my favorite in the series so far. I loved both Nym and Jamie. I was fascinated with Nym, who's a mimic. It's my first time reading about one. The way they could shift form for different appearances and body types- as well as very unhuman body parts- was intriguing and almost god-like in it's limitlessness. I even got flashbacks to the old Terminator 2 film where the T1000 could copy anyone's face or body and extend it's hands into blades. Jamie was also genderfluid and I loved that dynamic between them; how they recognized and appreciated that quality in each other. Jason Torres did a great job bringing these characters to life. Especially Nym, whose voice could fluctuate between soft, more masculine, and deep.
Thank you BookSprout, and Lola Bliss for sending me this advanced review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The gender fluidity was fascinating for both characters! I can see how amazing it would be to be with a mimic like Nym that can shift every part of their body, and is almost godlike in a way. Jamie's genderfluidity was perfectly written as well. The balance of fear and attraction was incredible. This was one of the most intense stories Lola has put out, and I loved every minute!
I loved this. It was so imaginative, and i loved the descriptions of how the mimic changed and shifted and even how they described how they saw the world and the absolutely wonderful representation of gender fluidity
For such a short story, it really drew you into this world and these characters.
