I really wanted to like this book, but I just don’t think it was for me. I almost dnfed, but made it to the end of the book!
I enjoyed the writing, it was so detailed and descriptive and I loved the way she wrote about certain things. But there were just some parts that didn’t really make sense? A few continuity issues that I tried to look past but just couldn’t seem to. Also her personality conflicted a few times with how she was described.
It also just felt a bit rushed. The romance, the whole situation she was in. It all went very quickly, which again, could be for some people! But it just wasn’t for me.
I wished there was a bit more on the dragons, and a bit more history or world-building information.
I really tried with this one because I had received an ARC of it's sequel. It had so much potential but the details were all over the place. A lot of starts of ideas that were just left hanging and then all of a sudden, something never mentioned before was a huge deal and taking over the plot.
I read a published copy of this story and clocked over 40 typos and incorrect grammar and word usage. It was just such a hard read.
I'd love to see the author rewrite this book and fill in the gaps. There is potential for a great story here
I picked this book up from quotes on Instagram, and normally, they always make it worth it, but this one, I got to 64%, which I think was pretty good going before I had to throw in the towel!
This story had so much potential, but the FMC moods and attitudes changed so quickly that I got whiplash. I felt so many parts were just repeated, and the FMC just ran back to her room whenever she didn't like something!
I really tried with it, but unfortunately, it just wasn't for me!
This was awful. It was completely rushed. I found spelling and grammar mistakes. It bounced from one thing to the next. There was no character development. The story line would have been brilliant but there was no time or effort put into this I felt.
Where do I begin with this book? The story is captivating and the characters are very interesting! We got humans, fae, dragons and monsters. Court, intrigues and betrayal lingering around every corner.
The start of this book had me clinging to my kindle, the plot thickens and the evolution happens quickly. We follow Alethea, a human girl whose life is suddenly turned upside down by the human king Kirin, who takes all eligible girls forcefully from their villages, looking for his bride.
In this book we got: ✨He falls first ✨Touch her and d*e ✨Magic ✨Protective MMC ✨Fated mates ✨Dragons ✨Unwilling bride ✨Kidnapping ✨Dangerous Quest ✨Betrayal
And so much more!
Eryx is kind, compassionate, caring, sweet and protective. He does everything in his power to make sure Alethea is comfortable and safe - even when she’s thrown into a completely new environment and a very different reality than she’s used to.
My only issue with the book was that the pacing was incredibly quick. I feel like I needed to take a second to breath while reading. Some of the plot points could have been written out more. The book was absolutely plot heavy, there was so much happening and it really kept me intrigued 🔥
I’m excited to see what Alethea will grow into - especially with the revelations at the end of the book 👀 and THE CLIFFHANGER!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Super short book. Lacked detail and world building. Every bad thing that happened was because the female lead was dumb and rushed into things without telling her ‘mate’. She brought everything on herself. Was kinda annoyed by the end.
i should start writing my own book since anything can be published now. i actually liked the premise of the story and that’s about it. it feels like a pre 1st draft. if taken down and republished with more dynamic characters, a map, actual world building and and magic system it could actually amount to something worth reading.
A bride needs to be chosen for the human King. Girls are dragged from their homes by their hair. Homes and belongings, destroyed - all in search of an unwilling bride. I'll be executed for treason if I refuse. But I'm saved by a dragon rider. The deadly Fae King. The fae are supposed to be deadly, lethal, and vicious. But the human lands are barren and cruel -- not much is different between the two lands. But something sinister is stirring in the human lands.
“I’d burn kingdoms for you.”
4/5 ⭐️ 1/5 🌶️
I want to start off by saying I loved this book. The vibes were there! The book felt a bit faced paced for me personally so if that isn’t your vibe then this might now be for you. But I didn’t mind it!
This is a pretty short review. It was a good read for me! I loved the characters and the story in this book so to say I’m excited to see where it goes is an understatement. I absolutely can’t wait to read the next book! 😍
Tropes:
🔥 Dragons, Fae and more.. 🔥 A Dark Prophecy 🔥 He Falls First 🔥 Fates Mates 🔥 Epic Adventures 🔥 Touch Her and 💀 🔥 Low Spice 🔥 Fast Paced
A fantasy romance WITH dragons, fae, mages, & more!? Sign me up! I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from Trinity Matthews and this book did not disappoint! I laughed, cried (a lot), kicked my feet, and fell in love with the world and the characters. King Eryx is absolutely top 10 book boyfriends after reading this book. Tropes include but aren’t limited to: Touch her and die, fated mates, mystery & a dark prophecy, he talks her through IT👀🥵 This book doesn’t have a ton of spice, it’s definitely plot driven! While I love spice in my books, I think the amount was just right. I could feel the love and passion between Eryx and Alethea even though the spicy scenes weren’t long. King Kirin actually made me mad so many times. All around I think this was a well written beginning to this series! I can’t wait to read what else Trinity thinks up in her mind!! Thank you again for the ARC 🫶🏼

Stars: 2,5 /5 Plot & Story: 2 /5 (=> It was honestly boring to the end)
The Story itself: It wasn't a bad one, the beginning was really GOOD, but then at the middle, it grew boring till the end.
Plot: It wasn't good, nothing special really Why ? For me it wasn't special, because if a plot is good, I will definitely read the next book, but for this no.
this was alright. honestly a lot of the decisions she made pmooo like the miscommunication and like idk the common sense is so far gone. also like i'll never understand how these mfcs never understand what they have like THE MAN SAID HE WOULD KILL FOR U and then u go behind his back to do smth dangerous when u hv no power like idk its so dumb
Read if you enjoy: ✨Fated mates ✨Dragons ✨One horse ✨Low Spice ✨He falls first
What a fun read! I felt like there was never a dull moment. I was delightfully surprised by the cliffhanger. I did get a little annoyed with the FMC at one point with her questionable choices. But I loved how something is constantly happening. Thank you so much for allowing me an ARC copy.
Such an easy read, I really enjoyed it. And that cliffhanger at the end!? I feel it was maybe a little rushed, like a lot happens in the last quarter of the book and we need more info about what it all means and why things are happening, but that’s why I’m excited to see where the sequel will take us!
Okay, so I got to 40% of this book, and honestly, that’s where my patience ran out. It felt like the author tossed every fantasy trope into a blender, hit "puree," and then forgot to strain out the plot holes. The result? A chaotic mess that left me feeling like I’d accidentally started watching the final season of a show without seeing the first five.
We’ve got human girl reluctantly gifted to the king? Sure, classic. One horse and one bed? Naturally. Main female lead attacked twice by the halfway point while the king goes full murder mode to save her? Of course! Revenge against the evil king who killed her family? You bet. It was like the fantasy cliché starter pack on steroids, but without the charm or coherence to make it fun.
And the world-building? Oh, boy. One minute, we’re in a medieval-esque setting with flowy dresses and peasants. The next minute, our girl is hitting the club, getting hammered, and stumbling around like it’s Ladies’ Night at Ye Olde Tavern. What is this timeline? What is this world? What is happening?
Then there’s Alethea. Oh, Alethea. Pre-abduction, she’s skipping through the market, calling her mom “Mommy,” and somehow not realizing that "Guards Are Coming to Steal Women" Day might not be the best time for errands. Post-abduction, she’s suddenly a dungeon martyr, then an indecisive, whiny mess who falls head over heels for the king in—checks notes—about three weeks? Girl, your mom just died. Maybe slow your roll.
The more I think about this book, the more annoyed I get. The characters were as flat as a pancake, the pacing was all gas, no brakes, and the tropes were stacked higher than a Jenga tower about to collapse. I don’t care enough to see how it ends, and I definitely won’t be signing up for the sequel. This book? DNF and not sorry about it.
At first, I thought that this book is going to be an average fantasy fae story, but it was so boring that it was difficult to finish reading it. It's one of the most boring and predictable books I have ever read. Not only that, but there wasn't a single character that I liked. I think that this is the cringest book couple I have ever read about.
For those who know, i do not DNF and I DID finish this, but it was like pulling teeth. The story started out so good and the plot could be good. It’s way too fast, details are skipped, so many opportunities for it to be good were skipped. Grammatically, there are a lot of errors and it kept getting harder and harder to push through. Overall, it felt so rushed. While it is told from the Mai. Characters POV of read more like a narrator going through it in 2X speed. Scenes jumped too fast, there was zero concept of time, the locations and kingdoms could have been built out more, the relationships could have been developed more. We meet the dragon and all of a sudden Blossom just KNOWS the name, he’s never introduced, I actually went backwards to make sure I didn’t skip over it. But there were several points where we just knew things with zero lead up. And a spoiler, the dragon dies but I had zero emotional attachment. I really think there is something that could have been there in the story but it just felt like an overview and was not for me, which sucks because I was really excited about this one based on the description.
I didn’t like this. I’m not even angry that I kept reading it, I’m disappointed in myself.
A lot it was fine, I guess. But there are some plot holes. In one scene Cadmus is sent away to get a special weapon from another kingdom. Two days later he is still around and available to give the shortest self defense scene that I have ever read. The weapon is never mentioned again.
The two main characters lack personality. And poor Alethea. This woman is attacked and/or severely injured at least five times in this, rather short, book.
The world building is a bit lacking.
And I don’t understand the whole human king stealing girls to find his bride. Alethea even says that there would be many willing girls who would want to marry the king. Why go through the hassle of abducting every girl between 12 and 20, to find the one he wants. Surely a willing girl would satisfy whatever criteria he is using.
And it makes no sense why she wouldn’t just tell Eryx about the map/eye whole thing!
Okay the more I think about this, the more upset I get.
I don’t care enough to read anymore books in the series. This has been a frustrating experience.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
For a book filled with so many commonly used tropes and stories it was confusing, the FMC is just ugh and jumps all over the place. The MMC is a walking green flag for most of it and then is suddenly shifted into not? Left confused and unsure about the second.
The writing is quite good just lacking a cohesive plot and world building. Potential there but not utilised.
We’ll see if book 2 can redeem and fill in plot holes
The book was easy to read, everything we’ve heard before… but the MC Alethea it’s kind of stupid, super naive, doesn’t question anything…. She is looking for an eye and a map, and she doesn’t even know what it’s for… the king’s sister is apparently bad, but Altehea doesn’t question her, and the king doesn’t warn Alethea, either. It lacks a lot. Maybe it’s resolved in the next book… we’ll see, I give it 3 stars.
Everything in the story seems to be happening way too quickly for my liking. Like I wish the author could slow down just a little bit when explaining the story because I keep finding myself confused and trying to remember what’s the timeline and it doesn’t seem like more than a day or two has passed.
