On the Edge of After' gave me Scandal and The West Wing vibes but with a deeply emotional romantic core. The pacing, the emotional stakes, and the political backdrop kept me thinking about it long after the last page.

I went into On the Edge of After expecting an emotional literary journey, and what I found was something even more compelling: a deeply human story about grief, love, resilience, and the astonishing ways our lives can fracture and remake themselves—paired with a thriller element I genuinely did not see coming.
Britt Wolfe writes with the kind of emotional intelligence that makes you feel as though she has reached into your chest and taken inventory of every complicated feeling you’ve ever tried to name. If you love the emotional resonance, layered relationships, and beautifully rendered humanity of Taylor Jenkins Reid, there is something here that will absolutely speak to you. Wolfe has her own voice entirely—rawer in places, perhaps a little more intimate—but that same gift for making fictional people feel achingly real.
What surprised me most was the suspense.
Without spoiling anything, this book takes a turn I was wholly unprepared for, and it is executed brilliantly. What could have felt gimmicky in less capable hands instead elevated the entire story, adding urgency and tension to an already emotionally rich narrative. I finished On the Edge of After at 3:17 a.m. with blurry eyes and a full heart, knowing full well I’d regret it when my alarm went off. I’d received a free copy from Britt Wolfe earlier that evening and thought I’d just read a chapter or two before bed. Famous last words. By 7 p.m. I was completely pulled in, and I didn’t put it down until I reached the end.
Britt Wolfe has a rare gift—one I’ve only really experienced with Taylor Jenkins Reid. Both authors have this beautiful way of making you feel like you’re not just reading a story, but sitting quietly in the room while it unfolds around you. The dialogue feels lived-in, the emotions complicated and true. You don’t watch the characters from a distance; you breathe the same air they do.
I especially loved that Merritt is Native. The brief, quiet reflections about existing in two worlds but fully inhabiting neither hit me right in the chest. As someone who has lived in that liminal space myself, it felt so authentic and gently handled. It wasn’t heavy-handed or tokenistic—it was simply part of who she is, written with care and respect. That representation mattered to me more than I expected it to.

A strong debut novel. Great vig attestation in a late in life romance. A bit too.much political speech making for me but it sets the tone for future development of Norland politics and drama. Some scenes were brilliant and heart rendingly hit home. And the husky with mismatched eyes -- spoiler-- who doesn't die, reminded me of Sydney Rye's Blue in Kimmelman's unabashedly violent feminist fiction. The violence and the steamy scenes are much more reserved and gentle here but feminism is strong here too.

Like so many others are saying, I read it in a single day—not because it’s short, but because it is completely captivating and feels so wonderfully alive. The pages seemed to breathe with me. I couldn’t put it down.
A few days later I returned to it, this time more slowly. I read it over five days, letting each chapter linger. And I loved it even more the second time.
The true triumph of this book is the characters and their remarkable depth. They feel so real, so human, that I found myself caring about them as if they were dear friends. Their hopes, their quiet struggles, their moments of surrender and grace stayed with me long after I closed the book. Through their journeys, I saw pieces of my own heart reflected back with such honesty.
On the Edge of After is more than a story—it’s a beautiful reminder that life unfolds in its own wise time and that there is grace in simply trusting the road. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know.

I received a free copy of On the Edge of After from the author’s website, and I’m so glad I did. This was a beautiful, heartfelt story that I truly enjoyed.
I lost my own husband when I was still quite young and never remarried, so Merritt’s grief touched me deeply. The author portrayed it so realistically and with such care — it felt honest and raw, but never overwhelming. I especially loved the hopeful note that ran through the whole book. It left me feeling uplifted rather than heavy.
The soft thriller undercurrent was expertly done — just enough tension to keep the pages turning without taking away from the heart of the story. I became very invested in Avery’s situation and can’t wait to see what happens in the sequel. (And Luca? No good at all. I could spot that a mile away — I’d be warning my daughters to stay far away from a man like him!)

There is no right or wrong way to grieve and finding love after a great loss is a challenge internally and how you are perceived to others. Britt Wolfe does an incredible job communicating grief and loss through her writing and the characters. The characters have depth and you can feel the utter aching and writhing one goes though.
Merritt's grief is felt deeply, after losing her husband. Her journey through the ups and downs and the thought of being able to move on after such a loss. It was so beautiful. I cried, more than once. I connected with all of the characters.
And how I relate to this story and the emotions felt, is for another day. I knew going into it, it may hit me hard. But in the most beautiful way.

Oh my gosh, you have to read On the Edge of After by Britt Wolfe! I finished it in two days because I literally could not put it down. The story is so beautiful and emotional, and Beau? Be still my fluttering heart. I am a total horn dog for that man. Like, embarrassingly so.
I will admit I was over here giggling and kicking my feet wishing the spicy scenes were wide open instead of closed door… and maybe a few more of them, pretty please? But even with my smutty little heart wanting more, this book is an absolute masterpiece. The characters, the tension, the way it all comes together — perfection. I loved every single page.

I kept seeing comparisons on Goodreads between Britt Wolfe and Taylor Jenkins Reid — my all-time favourite author — so I had to check her out. I was delighted to discover she was giving away her award-winning debut, On the Edge of After, for free on her website. I received On the Edge of After for free from Britt Wolfe’s website and was genuinely surprised by how good it turned out to be. It’s beautifully written — the perfect balance of spelling things out while still trusting the reader. The atmospheric quality is lovely; you almost feel like you’re living inside the story.
It’s a closed-door romance, which is exactly my speed. The characters are wonderful, and it was such a refreshing change to fall for a genuinely good guy instead of the usual toxic type. I read that Britt wrote Beau inspired by her crush on Justin Trudeau. I’m not personally a fan of Trudeau (even though I’m liberal), but somehow I still found myself daydreaming about Beau. He’s officially one of my book boyfriends now.
There’s clear political messaging throughout, and you can tell Britt describes herself as a socialist on social media. There’s also a strong feminist thread running through it, which I absolutely loved. The way she writes consent is so refreshing — it actually feels as sexy as it should be.
I also really appreciated the world-building. Norland is clearly meant to echo Canada, and I saw on social media that Britt changed it to a fictional country because she wanted to get the political details right. The research shines through, but making it fictional adds such a nice touch of whimsy.
And oh my gosh — that “political intrigue” she mentions? It’s actually a covert thriller running underneath the whole book. It was so unexpected and SO good. I loved every minute of it.

Wow! As I am reading, I can feel and connect with Beau and Merritt along this journey. Sophie is such a treat and wish she was by my side.
The political intrigue building and the blossoming romance fits together perfectly. The small pieces of action enhance the intrigue.

I received this book when I signed up for ARC readers recently. Initially, I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it as I usually prefer first-person POV. However, I persevered and I’m glad I did. The only downside to the dual POV was the occasional repetition which I found a bit tedious.
Overall, it was a heartwarming story. As a young widow myself, I connected deeply with Merritt’s experiences and emotions - the feelings of grief and joy co-existing.
I enjoyed the thriller element which kept me hooked - I was constantly guessing how the plot would unfold. This definitely helped with the plot and kept it interesting.

What a lovely story! Such wonderful characters, I just love the dynamics, and the Imagery of Norland is stunning. Highly recommend.

On The Edge of After A Norland Story by Britt Wolfe. I love Britt Wolfe and her writing style. The first novella of hers that I read was The Last Dance and I just fell in love with the novella and Britt's writing style. Subsequently, I have read several other novellas that Britt has written and I have enjoyed all of those as well. They were all so well written and they all brought me close to tears or they did bring me to tears. So, when I learned that she was publishing her first full-length book, I knew that I had to read it and I was sure that I was going to enjoy it.
I'll admit that this book did surprise me a little bit. It was so different than the other novellas of Britt's that I have read. And it was so enjoyable to read and I loved all the twists and turns that Britt put in this book. It made this book one that was hard to put down. And one of the great things about this book was how each chapter started with a little bit of artwork, connected to the story and that chapter.
My heart just broke for Merritt. Her husband, the man who appeared to be her soul mate had died leaving Merritt heartbroken and widowed. And yet in her grief, she still has such grace, strength, and she is so grounded. And it's understandable why she would be hesitant about even thinking about falling in love again. All this together, it just makes her feel so deep, real, and authentic.
And when we meet Beau, we see that he is multi-faceted and layered. All the political weight that he carries, and the political risk he tries to hide, his strength of character, the courage that he had to chase his dreams and yet try and remain grounded at the same time, he had a quiet leadership about him, but he always showed everyone ultimate respect no matter who they were, he was loyal to the bone, and he had this sense of humility being able to recognize that he had his own limitations and that he could learn from other's. We also learn that Beau is this sweetheart of a guy who has had his own heart broken and he's working to heal from that. And I loved how like Merritt, he's learning how to love again and this helps them to bond and help each other.
And how can you forget about our sweet doggy character? He was just too cute and too sweet. I may be more of a cat person, but I still loved this dog character.
This book started off as a quiet slow-burn romance when our grieving widow Merritt met the charming Beau. But Britt quickly changed it all into this high-stakes game, which was a drama that was emotionally charged and I found that I couldn't put it down.
On The Edge of After is more than just a simple love story. This is a story about trust, resilience, and how much vulnerability can really cost you, especially in a world that watches your every move, your every step.
I loved that we got different POVs through the book. And we got to know from whose POV we were getting it was stated at the start of each chapter and after that, we got the chapter title and I loved that.
Britt has managed to write a beautiful, lyrical, emotional, mature story showing two people coming together at the right yet wrong time. We get to see just how sharp and symbolic, it painted Norland as this beautiful land that was both a backdrop and still a force of its own.
The ending of this book left me breathless and at the same time, it also left me hopeful.
I highly recommend On The Edge of After A Norland Story. I am sure that you will enjoy it just as much as I did. And I can't help but recommend Britt Wolfe as an author. Maybe it's because I am a bit biased as she is from the same city as me and I always love to promote local authors. But, truly I do believe that Britt Wolfe does have a great talent and I can't wait to read her next full-length novel.

On the Edge of After swept me off my feet. Brit Wolf crafts characters that don’t just live on the page—they breathe, laugh, ache, and feel like companions in my own world. Sophie, the dog, especially stole my heart. Sweet and beautiful, her presence shines through the story with a spirit that’s unforgettable. She’d be the kind of companion anyone would be lucky to have.
I also fell for Avery’s radiant personality—exactly the kind of friend I’d cherish in real life. And Merritt, so powerful, a force to be reckoned with. I’d definitely be her friend.
No spoilers here; I believe in letting the story unfold as the author intended. But I will say this: this book rekindled my love for romance, and for that, I’m deeply thankful. It gave me the nudge I didn’t know I needed—and I’m so glad it did.

I just finished On the Edge of After by Britt Wolfe and here are my musings.
A chance encounter on new years eve has Merritt Clark feeling something she hasn’t felt in years… Not since the loss of her husband. Her quiet life was enough until Beau… The chemistry is undeniable but Beau is much more than meets the eye. His career in politics puts his life in a harsh spotlight and when Merritt's career comes under public scrutiny… Is love enough to sacrifice everything else?
I was really lucky to see Britt’s giveaway on FB. She is a local author and I was grateful she decided to drop a book off for me.
I liked the romance in the book. It felt realistic and raw. The writing was absolutely stunning. The prose was really beautiful and I was fully absorbed into Merritt and the bumpy journey she was on. It had this wonderful mashup of feeling cozy but tension driven which I found quite delightful.
Anyone who spends time reading my reviews… They know I am not a fan of dual POV. This didn’t work for me here because it was the same thing that happened before, written the same way, just from the other person's POV and it didn’t add value to the book for me. Each chapter went back rather than carrying the story forward and while I know what the author was attempting to do… It didn’t work in my opinion. I know! That sounded harsh but honestly that was the only con I had and that’s a reader preference rather than anything against the book.
I loved that the characters weren’t young, I felt represented in this book. The tone was gentle throughout the book and never hit peak crescendo in the spicy parts or in the violent moments which I think was very clever because none of those parts were off putting and added to the story without detracting with shock value. A lot of authors make the mistake of thinking they need to smack you in the face but this book nailed it in my opinion. The pacing was decent and all in all I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
After reading this book I did a bit of internet stalking and found Britt’s poetry. GAWWWW! Beautiful poetry too so this local author ticks all the boxes!

I almost don’t want to write this review because I’m genuinely a little annoyed I have to wait for the sequel because I miss these characters already. 😂
I picked up On the Edge of After because I kept seeing other readers compare Britt Wolfe’s writing to Taylor Jenkins Reid, and honestly? I get it.
It’s not that the books feel the same in story or structure, but there’s something about the atmospheric writing that gave me that same immersive feeling—like the world around you fades and you’re suddenly inside the story. Britt has this incredibly evocative way of writing emotion, tension, setting—everything. You don’t just read this book. You kind of live in it for a while.
I also saw reviewers mentioning staying up way too late reading this, and yes. Absolutely yes.
Except I somehow made even worse decisions and read the whole thing in one sitting. 😂 I told myself “just one more chapter” approximately 47 times and suddenly it was the middle of the night and I had finished the entire book.
What completely caught me off guard was the thriller undercurrent running through this story.
I was expecting emotional contemporary fiction with romance. I was not expecting that constant low-level sense that something wasn’t quite right… that something darker was moving beneath the surface.
And wow, was that expertly done.
The suspense never feels forced or gimmicky. It’s subtle until it isn’t, and when certain things clicked into place, I genuinely just sat there staring at the page.
And the characters? I loved them.
Not in a vague “nice book characters” kind of way. In a these people feel real and now I miss them kind of way.
Beau in particular? Fully understood.
Emotionally intelligent, layered, compelling, deeply human.
Because the sequel isn’t here yet (Britt, if you’re reading this, respectfully, I need answers 😭), I have actually started rereading it already, which is something I almost never do.
If you love emotionally immersive fiction with gorgeous writing, unforgettable characters, and a thriller thread that keeps you absolutely riveted, read this book.

This was such a beautiful and well written novel. From the very first page the author's writing had me hooked and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. I hadn't read anything like this before and I will definitely be reading more by the author. I loved the author's writing style and there was plenty of content and twists and turns to keep me interested and guessing until the end, plus the pacing was just right. There was also a great cast of characters. I highly recommended it and I look forward to reading more by the author.

This was such a beautiful and well written novel. From the very first page the author's writing had me hooked and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. I hadn't read anything like this before and I will definitely be reading more by the author. I loved the author's writing style and there was plenty of content and twists and turns to keep me interested and guessing until the end, plus the pacing was just right. There was also a great cast of characters. I highly recommended it and I look forward to reading more by the author.

Britt Wolfe has brilliantly crafted the beautiful love story of Merritt and Beau. Upon completing the read, I am sorely grieving their absence in my life. As a devout romantic, I love this story because it is the epitome of what we all wish for in our lives; true love, trust, safety and forever.
Theirs is no typical romance, not by any means predictable in the formulaic sense. Their journey is woven through threads of complexity that spark possibilities for myriad outcomes; there is no surety; no promises. Yet, underneath the turmoil and uncertainty lies a molten foundation. No matter what cracks Beau and Merritt may stumble and fall through, their deep and unfaltering fierce draw toward each other pulls the reader in. Whatever the adventure, lie the destiny of true love waiting for Beau and Merritt, Even as they fight against the risks of their ultimate union, the reader demands it, and the story delivers.
Character development is genius; Merritt’s easy-going nature through Beau’s blunders, and his inability to let her go. This is a romance at its essence; however, the writer has brilliantly transitioned these two characters through an intricate political landscape of danger, intrigue, betrayal and uncertainty.
I highly recommend this book for any who enjoy a true-to-life fiction, chock full of adventure and yes; the hopeless romantic will reluctantly part with a gently mashed heart! I am confident that even the harshest cynic will nod with a soft smile as they cheer Beau and Merritt on.

I honestly didn’t expect to get this attached to a story, but On the Edge of After completely surprised me. I picked it up because I saw people talking about Beau, and now I fully understand why. He is such a grounded, steady, genuinely good man — not over-the-top, not some unrealistic fantasy, just… solid. The kind of character who makes you want to underline every quiet, thoughtful thing he says.
Merritt was the biggest surprise for me. She felt so real. Her grief, her guilt, the way she second-guesses everything — it all made sense. I found myself relating to her way more than I expected, especially the moments where she tries to move forward but still feels stuck in the past. It’s messy in the way real life is messy, and that made it hit harder.
The chemistry between Merritt and Beau isn’t loud or dramatic — it builds slowly, almost without you noticing, until suddenly you’re completely invested. Some of their scenes felt so intimate that I had to stop and just sit with them for a minute. It’s not a “spicy” romance, but it’s incredibly emotional and somehow even more impactful because of that.
The writing is beautiful without being heavy. There were chapters that made my chest hurt, and others that made me smile like an idiot. And I loved the little details about Norland — they made the world feel fleshed out without taking over the story.

I went into On the Edge of After expecting an emotional contemporary drama, and while I absolutely got that, what I did not expect were the thriller elements that completely blindsided me in the best possible way. There were moments in this book where I physically sat up straighter, reread paragraphs, and thought, Wait. What? The suspense is so expertly woven in that it never feels like the book changes genre—it just reveals new layers of itself.
Britt’s writing reminded me, in some ways, of Taylor Jenkins Reid—but where Reid often goes big, expansive, and cinematic, Wolfe goes microscopic in the most beautiful way. She doesn’t just tell you what a character feels; she seems to dissect emotion at a cellular level. It’s like watching someone paint with words, layering detail and feeling until something achingly human appears on the page.
The characters felt startlingly real to me. Not “book real.” Human real. Messy, nuanced, contradictory, deeply specific. The kind of characters who feel like they continue existing after you close the book.
