Can’t put it down. I have never read a book, where the author is so remarkably detailed about the events. It’s as if she has a photographic memory- which makes the story so raw, and so real. When you read it, it’s as if you’re reading a reality tv show, with cliffhangers at the end of each chapter. You will be moved, you will be angry at the manipulation and humiliation that she endured. I would bet, throughout the course of reading this book, you find yourself rooting, and rooting loud for Sarma!… I encourage anyone curious about what it’s like being transformed into being brainwashed, to read this truly, bizarre story.

I'll start by saying I empathize with and admire Sarma. As for the book, I cannot imagine the process of revisiting all of this. The first 1/3 was riveting and insightful. But I now know what people mean when they say a "character" in a book is unlikeable. Mr Fox is so awful that it makes that big chunk of the story hard to read. And though we're told the first version of the book was longer, I think this could've been shorter. I'm also left with questions: what was the process of making amends? Where do things stand with her family? But for now I need to take a walk (or have a drink).

I got a preliminary copy and was surprised at first to see how long it is. But it is such good and easy reading that the length turns it to be a pleasure. Fortunately, the parts about Mr. F do not really dominate the book like they did the Netflix show and it's fascinating to read about Sarma's life before him. Very much enjoying this book and highly recommend it.

I’ve followed Sarma (& Leon) on social media for so long. I admire her honesty & her vulnerability. She may have been down, but she is soaring once again with this book. I recommend following her on Instagram, too. I always enjoy her posts. This is a must read. Bless her sweet doggie’s (Leon) memory, also.

DNF. I can see I am in the minority here but I just couldn't stand this book or the author. She takes no responsibility for her part in her downfall as far as I could tell. I just gave up after reading all the nonsense about Mr Fox telling her he could make her dog immortal.

Quite the read! I'm glad that she shared her story with the world despite the pain involved in reliving the whole ordeal.
