Lione

Rate this book
She seeks to bring down the Lionian Sovereignty. He is determined to save it.
Aurion Illica is proud to be a councilman of the Lionian Sovereignty. But as corruption taints the Council, assassinations shake the Sovereign’s power, and the rebellions of the slave races, particularly the Nurmi savages of the Corelands, threaten to extinguish the greatness of Lione, Aurion must choose between Lione and his life.

Lania is a Warrior of the Nurmi, one half of the religious incarnation of prophecy. It is she who will destroy Lione and free the world from the monsters of the south. As they cross paths, Aurion begins to see that the Nurmi are not mere savages to be enslaved, and Lania is forced to recognize that not all Lionians are faceless conquerors to be slain.

It is only by working together that the two mortal enemies may save both peoples in this time of great upheaval.

Two friends—one wants to save the Lionian Sovereignty, the other wants to destroy it.

A long, long time ago, when the Lionian Sovereignty just began conquering other people, it was foretold that twins would be born who would save the Nurmi people. The time is now and the twins are of age. We have the Warrior and the Priestess—both necessary and with a special bond. Then we have a High Councilor, Aurion, who will do whatever is necessary to save the Lionian Sovereignty. The Warrior and the High Councilor meet and become friends, well as much as enemies can become friends. I really enjoyed the interaction between these two. They respected each other and did care about each other, even though they were enemies. This is a great fantasy. There is magic, there are battles, there are conquerors and the conquered, but what I really enjoyed was the relationships. How the different people related to their environments. Really great story and I can’t wait to see how it all ends!

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. The start of this series is filled with nail biting suspense, and a plot that will capture your attention from the start as the daughter of the well known, and feared Black Arrow infiltrates the Lione complex by circumstances that seem planned. Known as The Warrior, she is incredibly skilled at deception and fighting. But, under attack she falters, is captured and held prisoner. But no bars can hold her. She escapes and disappears, or so the guards think. Returning under the guise of a bought slave, she plans her mission. Find and help her tribe members, also held as slaves, escape back home. A personality change is needed, and she becomes the ultimate slave, helping daughters of the palace, but secretly each night she releases The Warrior, who leads her people to freedom. Political unrest fuels another mission, and it quickly becomes a story hard to put down, with breath holding scenarios that will have you reading fast, with an ending that just makes you want more.

Like any book with extensive world building, this one was mildly daunting, especially as Lambert creates a new language and social structure. However, she weaves the world beautifully and consistently, keeping her facts straight throughout the book, which many writers struggle to do, and in a way I was able to quickly pick up.

The characters are loveable, and showcase different perspectives and personalities, as her fictional world works through the very real issues of “isms” (racism etc). I became more and more invested the longer the story went on, and I can’t wait for the continuation of the Warriors story.

If you toke the one sexual encounter out teens would like the book. The story started out slow at first and then you could not put it down cause you wanted to see what was doing to happen next. I loved the how the warrior (Lania) worked and helped others. Lania and her twin Akara enter into another state. Would really love to know more about Aurion, who is so confused on his actions with the warrior. Now to wait for the next book.

Intriguing, follows several perspectives so a bit more thought needed. Then a mindless reading book. Can finish in a day but..not a easy afternoon read. Good plot and worldview. Loved the characters even the evil ones. Good morals. For the most part. Help can come from your enemies. Stand for what you believe. Live by a code.

Fairly clean. Rape without being named barely described is eluded to. (Red thighs, guy with bad sexual proclivity for anything (man, women or child).

This is a really good book. It does read a bit slow in certain spots, but that might just be me. I really enjoyed reading it. The characters are terrific, and I love the layout of the book.

The author reveals a powerful female lead. She has a Twin, who is powerful in her own right. Together they must end the war and bring peace to the Nurmi people.

The prophecy was cast a long time ago. Now is the time for action and defense of her people. All her life Lania has trained to be the Warrior. Her skills make her the penultimate weapon. Can she stand up to the entire Lionian army? More than weapons and force are required. Her twin is her secret weapon. She brings the strength and direction that Lania needs when the odds are definitely not in her favor.

She turns out to be a great actor and a great tactician. These are skills she most certainly will need.

If you love a fantasy with a strong female lead, this is your book! The author draws the reader into the story and makes you a witness to her travels, her battles, her struggles and the life contained within all the characters. You will not regret reading this book.
