What an amazing sophomore addition to this series! I’ll admit, at first I worried that the move in setting and introduction of new characters might complicate the storyline, but I’m so glad to say I was completely wrong. S. Lynn C. not only managed to expand the world seamlessly but made the story even richer and more engaging.The pacing starts out a bit slow, but by the halfway point, it takes off at full speed and doesn’t let up until the very end. And that ending... wow. I truly thought I had it figured out, but I couldn’t have been more surprised. Now I’m anxiously waiting to see what book three will bring because that cliffhanger, OMG!!!

Isabel’s traumatic experience continues to haunt her, as well as push her to put her own safety at risk. When confronted with danger to those she cares about, Isabel is willing to sacrifice everything for their safety, including her own life. I love the way the author integrates the dreams of Isabel and Jake into the story. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between a dream and reality in the story and it helps me empathize with the characters more. The ending of this story left me screaming in frustration. How much can one person endure? When will Isabel get a happy ending?

Yep I'm going to go sit and cry for awhile
Book 1 had me on the edge of my seat ready to throw my kindle. I didn't think she could make me any more frustrated, angry, or emotional but this book topped it. The roller-coaster of emotions, the pain, the praying, the laughter. She truly drags you through it all and leaves you screaming for more.

You can expect nothing less than a heart-ripping roller coaster with this series. S Lynn C wasn't wrong when she told me I'd hate her for this series. Definitely worth the read!

This book picks up right where the first one left off and somehow manages to get even more intense. I went into this one hoping for a little breathing room for these kids, and instead everything just kept escalating. Hawaii should have felt safe, but the constant tension never really lets up.
What stood out most to me was Isabel’s mindset. You can feel how much guilt she carries and how little she values her own safety compared to everyone else’s. It was frustrating at times, especially as not only someone that was once a teenage girl, but also as a mom to a girl that was also once that age. But given everything she’s been through, it's all very realistic trauma responses. Jake continues to be such a strong presence, and the bond between them is what kept me emotionally invested the entire time.
That ending was brutal. This series does not pull punches, and I finished this one with my stomach in knots. I immediately needed the next book.

Much like the first book, this one left me emotionally devastated. Although in this book I had to constantly pause and breathe and remind myself that Isabel is just a teenager, and, like most teenagers, she does dumb shit and is reckless sometimes, because I SWEAR! this girl has a freaking death wish throughout this whole book. I constantly found myself yelling at her, DONT DO IT! Such a great book, can't wait for the next one, but considering the emotional rollercoaster from the last 2 books, I will need something strong to calm my nerves lol
