Jo and Hal hatch a plan to strike back at Abin Sur and free Evergreen. But istheir understanding of Abin Sur and his plans for Evergreen correct, or willthey just create a bigger disaster in the process?
Abin Sur has been holding Evergreen hostage and killing off townspeople as he "judged" them. Or has he?
Jo and Hal decide to take matters into their own hands, and the results are... Well, not what you would expect. But this goes a long way to explaining the crazy goings-on in the first issue. How Jo became what looks like the new Green Lantern, and Hal seemingly became Black Hand.
What I'm loving about Absolute Green Lantern so far is its ability to maintain a captivating mystery while delivering some truly amazing character moments. The bits and pieces we've learned have significantly deepened our understanding of the ongoing narrative, and I was genuinely surprised by the direction everything took. Jo is a fantastic addition to the cast, and diving deeper into what happened to everyone only makes the series more intense. It's no wonder Hal feels like he messed up. I'm absolutely loving this series!
Jo’s actions demonstrate how violence and destruction are so often precipitated by good intentions. Hal’s blame is misplaced, but considering that he’s losing his mind, I kind of get it.
Absolute Green Lantern #4 might be the most gripping chapter yet — part cosmic horror, part ideological showdown. Jo and Hal’s plan shifts from brute force to navigating Abin Sur’s eerie judgment dome, and the whole thing drips with tension and quiet dread.
I am still left SO CONFUSED, YET so intrigued and desperate to understand this series. As the fight rages on in the present, the black ring we have seen calling to Hal Jordan has shifted into a black star. Calling on Hal to become it, and it seems faced agains Jo and her light it has corrupted Hal to a point that has completely surrounded him! But everything still rests upon what happened in evergreen!
We jump back to evergreen as Jo and Todd have realized that they few people they have seen taken by Abin have not been the only ones. Slowly everyone in the town has gone missing! And now with Hal armed with his yellow bullets, they are ready to lure Abin Sur out and take him down! Jo is the one to approach him and call him down from his lantern in the sky. She asks why he killed everyone…but she doesn’t get the answer she was expecting and even as Hal overhears Abin talk he begins to hesitate on firing. I do find it interesting that Todd (someone who usually has shadow powers, very similar to what Hal is dealing with) continues to be the one over Hal’s shoulder telling him to kill Abin Sur. Hmmmmm. Nevertheless Abin Sur explains that the people who died, the guy that hit the barrier and the woman who was hit by the ricochet bullet, died from chaotic action he agrees is unacceptable. But no one else has died from his actions, everyone else (Guy and John included) are alive and exist as broken apart molecules now residing in OA! They are in the “omega-alpha” and exist in the “second stage” as judgement remains on progress. This entire conversation Hal had a chance to take a shot at Abin Sur…and didn’t. Abin Sur continued to “explain” that “constituted existence must be within light. Judgement must be made. I am the ABIN Sur. Aim may be selected…initiates must be selected. Initiates against the darkness. Be with fear, Sojourner Mullein. Fear Qard.” WHAT?! I’m just as confused as Jo when Abin drops all this info, what does that mean?! Does Hal currently possess a weapon of Qard?! But it wasn’t Hal that causes the destruction of the town that day…it was Jo. As Abin went to disappear and float as a green light again, she instinctively reached out with her hand containing a gold wedding ring. This caused a chain of events that even struck fear onto the face of Abin Sur and this seems to be what transferred the light to Jo! But it also caused the barrier to collapse and the giant green lantern to come crashing down on the city! Is it possible that Jo completely took the light powers from Abin Sur?! Either way with the town destroyed we find out at the end of this issue who came to sweep up the mess. None other than the eccentric Hector Hammond! Looking to get a jump on a new extraterrestrial prize under the nose of Lazarus! Oh no!

This issue moves along so quickly it'd be easy to mistake it for being slight even as it finally gives some answers to the questions that have been brewing since this series opening pages. We also get some nice nods to the larger world of the Absolute Universe, which have been mostly absent in other books. Or we just finally get a character who's connected to that larger world thanks to their business dealings, or maybe they just watch the news? Either way, it's a welcome bit of connective tissue to help sell this as a connected world rather than the piecemeal series we've been sold as being part of the same universe without any direct connections.
4,5/5,0 OK. I got some. This is building up pretty good.
We got the basics. Now show us some greatness. It's intriguing, interesting. But so far, nothing great. Well, at least it's better than Absolute Superman
Not great either. Not a whole lot of story in this. Yeah people are talking(a lot) and just words on a page. What is happening!? Wish they would at least use the Black Lanterns in this series. That would wake me up from a slumber. Its now issue #5 and nothing of interest has happened. Lets wake up this series DC. I am falling asleep.
Damn…the slow burn of the first few issues is now really starting to payoff. I’ve enjoyed Lindsay’s art but he really shows off what’s possible in this story with some key moments. Hal’s monstrous form is so weird - I can’t wait for more battles between him and Jo.
The mystery continues. More questions are asked but less is know. Also, not much of who the character are is also presented. I need more deep characterization in addition to mystery to keep me compelled.
Really out there in a good way. I got some DBZ vibes from this while it also feeling like its own thing. The cosmic stuff is a ton of fun and I want to see what else is in store.
The storyline for Absolute Green Lantern is finally taking shape .A lot of questions answered. Jo and Hal are part of the big picture. Hector Hammond is on the scene.
