Jackson wants to live his life free of the trials and tribulations the woman in his past have put him through. Yet nothing makes you appreciate what you have quite like the reappearance of someone you thought was long gone.

Selena Graham knows he’s too much for her, but he’s the only person besides her best friend who accepts her for who she really is—out of control, and desperate for attention. She knows she deserves more, but how can she quit the one thing that makes her feel accepted?

Despite all of his downfalls, Selena holds on for dear life as Jackson fights desperately against his inner demons in an attempt to relinquish control, and finally let love take over…

☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you SO MUCH Skyla!! ☆

#Woah, talk about unexpected! Author Skyla Madi definitely set the tone for this dramatic spin off from the Consumed Series as she really threw me through quite a spin!

Slammed was a whole lot of baffling for me. I just did not expect for things to go down the way it did whatsoever.

I always knew that there was something weighing on this couple but, man, was this story not what I expected at all!

It was fiery, it was explosive, but most of all it was riveting, unfiltered, and plagued with mystery and shattering suspense and revelations that threaten to tear everything apart.

Jackson and Selena are quite the enigmatic couple and have their work seriously cut out for them-- both as individuals and as a couple. Each have so many stakes going for and against them that it's hard to tell where the next step of their relationship is going to lead. Anyone's guess is as good as mine.

photo1

NOT TO MENTION, with the unprecedented unforeseen twists, turns, and arrival of a disgruntled third party that presages to disembowel and consume all that Jackson and Selena have worked for, it is quite questionable where the end game is starting to look for this troubled duo.

Can Jackson confront his tumultuous past? Can Selena find the stability and acceptance she so desperately craves and be the pillar that Jackson needs to pit him out of his unrelenting darkness?

description

Will this couple be able to let go of the past before they can move on to their future? Or was their love destined to fail after all?

If you've read the Consumed series you know Jackson as Seth's best friend and Selena is Olivia's best friend. I would definitely read that series first before starting this one.

It was great to finally get some insight on Jackson's past. I liked the intro to this series and I think the next book will be quite good based on how this one ended. Watch out Amelia as Selena is no pushover. You've met your match!

Cliffhanger and lots of ex girlfriend action. Was stressful read and the hero, Jackson, isn't very nice. I just don't get it. I guess book two should offer some much needed resolution to this damaged couple.

Madi - Slammed
I was nervous about this one. Slammed is a spinoff novel from the Consumed series by Skyla Madi. Now, I flippin’ LOVED the Consumed books, but I did NOT flippin’ love Selena, our heroine in Slammed. She’s, um, challenging to love. So picking up a book completely based on her made me anxious. I love Skyla and I didn’t want to hate her book. Turns out, I was worrying for nothing. Leave it to Skyla to make me love someone I really wanted to hate.

Overall Rating: 5 stars- Screw sleep! I’ll let the kids watch TV and eat hot dogs tomorrow.

It’s hard for me to even admit this, but our characters are……likeable. I was fascinated with Jackson during the Consumed novels, but he was always a bad boy that you just knew was trouble. And Selena? Man, Selena has issues. But somehow, I ended up feeling for both of them. Skyla worked her magic and suddenly I just wanted to hug both of them.
The devil in the guise of an angel. The woman who will ruin me for all others.

It’s hard to talk about Jackson without veering into spoiler territory. The short version is that he has scars. We spend most of the book getting glimpses of how those scars were formed. Each glimpse makes him more and more lovable. He comes off tough and hard and fearless, but it turns out he’s actually the walking wounded.
Trying to get Jackson to talk was like opening a tin can with a rubber soon.

Selena is a mess. She just does dumb shit. A lot. She clearly has daddy issues. And when it comes to Jackson, she has no self-control. Who hasn’t been there? You know he’s bad for you, but you just can’t resist anyway. Good sex will do that to you. The story makes Selena’s pain so palpable. She wants to not want Jackson, but she just can’t stay away.

Seeing them work through their issues is heartbreaking and uplifting. You just can’t help but root for them.

There are some fun things, too. We get to check in with Olivia and Seth. It’s enough to make you squee with glee. There’s a particularly poignant scene where Seth talks about not forgiving himself for mistakes made and it’s just… well, the feels. They are great.

I had expected Slammed to be a standalone novel. Turns out, it’s not. It doesn’t really have what I would call a cliffy, but you definitely know there is more coming, in a good (and terrifying) way. So read this knowing it’s the start of a whole new story, not the end of one. But read it anyway. It’s good. You can read it w/o having read the Consumed series, but I really recommend starting with those – both because they’re awesome and because they do lend insight into Jackson & Selena’s relationship.
I told her I loved her and I'm ninety-eight percent sure I meant it.

Smut Factor: 4 stars- Smokin’ Hot!
Character likability: 4 stars- I wish we were friends.
Storytelling: 5 stars- I wake up thinking this really happened.
Writing and editing quality: 5 stars - Excellent!

3,5 estrellas.

Skyla Madi has a natural knack for story telling. From the very first chapter of Slammed I was hooked, wanting to know the inside details on the workings of Selena and Jackson’s complicated relationship. The way detail, and emotion is incorporated throughout this novel is brilliant. I felt the pain of the hits that Jackson experienced when he entered the ring, and I felt the strong emotions that Selena felt from chapter one. I loved every character, even Amelia at times for being so real. The characterization was flawless, and the story was beautifully told. I would love to read another story from this author. Personally, I am not a big fan of detailed sex scenes in novels, but the way that Madi wrote each scene was perfect. None of the mature scenes were unnecessary and played a direct role into the ending of the story. It was all very tasteful.

The ending was a shocker. The novel seemed to end abruptly, but I understand that reason for that. Madi surely left us all on a cliffhanger. I am interested in reading the rest of this series, and seeing what else is in store for Selena, Jackson, Olivia, and Seth. I would love to read Olivia and Seth’s story. Overall, this novel was a huge thumbs up for me, and I think it would be a good read for anyone over the age of 18.

I really liked the books about Seth and Olivia, Jackson who is Seth's friend and Selena is Olivia's this is their story. I've got to say I might have liked this better if I could relate or sympathise with the characters. I found both Jackson and Selena victims of their weak personalities. So instead of rooting for them both, I felt like they were each other's downfall, neither one strong enough to hold a relationship together. As for the woman in Jackson's past, her character was a bit pantomimeish IMO. Plus at times it felt like this story was more the Jackson and Amelia story.
This is just book 1 and I'm not sure I want to read further to see where this goes.

I was incredibly interested in reading the story of Jackson and Selena after their intro in Consumed. I thought it would be interesting to have a party-girl heroine with zero limits and zero self control or shame and see her get into a relationship with someone who in the first Consumed book had come off as sexually compatible but not nearly as uninhibited (he called her "too much" and she believed dulling herself down would please him). But unfortunately this was not what Slammed delivered at all. The books begins with Jackson coming off as the uninhibited f*boy and Selena the clingy girl who wants more. It was disappointing to say the very least and it felt like Selena's power was taken away from page 1. I never bothered to read the 2nd or 3rd books in the Consumed series, Olivia and Seth weren't interesting enough for me to read beyond the 1st book.

Unfortunately I couldn't stand reading Jackson and Selena's book either and come to think of it Jackson's story with Amelia is eerily similar to 50 Shades Christian Grey with his ex... but like the dollar discount version. I wasn't impressed.

Oh this book was OH SO much anticipated right from the time I had read the Consumed series. The back and forth, the on and off status between Jackson and Selena is finally told in a full fledged story. Jackson has gone through some serious mind tangling issues. In this book we finally get to delve into his twisted mind and why he is the way he is especially with selena. Selena in this book truly did surprise me as a deeply, caring and emotional woman. But even though she's all that what we had seen of selena in the past was she's a wild party animal and really isn't a relationship kind of woman or rather a woman who doesn't want to be committed. I'm so glad that this book finally clears the weird relationship of Jackson and Selena by the many facets of their history and how they are as people.
THAT ENDING LINE THOUGH.. IS D BOMB. "MARK MY WORDS & HOLD MY HEELS, I DO NOT PLAY NICE WHEN OTHER WOMEN TOUCH MY THINGS." ❤️❤️❤️. Now onto book 2 of this ride. 🥰🥰

Much to my chagrin, I started reading this book totally blind to the fact that it was about Jackson and Selena from Seth and Olivia's story. It's been a while since I read about those two, so I was totally caught off guard when it dawned on me that this was about the two best friends.

So color me disappointed that it was nowhere near as good as Olivia and Seth's story. Maybe I'm just biased because I read theirs first, or maybe it's because I didn't love Jackson and Selena to begin with. Who knows. All I know is that I won't be reading the second one, and I honestly kinda regret reading this one.

This is the story of Jackson Quinn, who we first met in Consumed by Skyla Madi. Although, you don't necessarily have to read The Consumed Series to follow this story, I would definitely recommend it.

Selena and Jackson are taking a break, not that they were ever really dating to begin with. Jackson has done some awful things in his past that he doesn't think Selena will understand or forgive him for. He decides that instead of letting her be the one to walk away he will do it himself. However, the two share an intense physical connection that neither one seems to be willing to give up. Enter the one woman from Jackson's past that has the power to not only destroy their relationship, but also Jackson himself.

I loved this book - I knew that Jackson was a really dysfunctional character (based on what I had read in the Consumed Series) but we are really allowed into his personal hell in this book. We are finally given the insights into what Amelia put him through and the pain that finally changed him from the laidback and happy-go-lucky person he once was to the hardened and incapable of love person he is today.

We get to see Jackson's internal monologue and that was almost soul destroying to read, he is so fractured and damaged, and trying to overcome so many emotional issues. I could literally feel his heartbreak and shame through each page of the book.

"Then comes the loudest sound I have ever heard... the sound of her heart shattering into a million tiny pieces in her chest. I see it too. It tightens her chest, then her throat before making her eyes water." - Slammed, Skyla Madi

"What happens next is something I never thought I'd ever see. Jackson cries. Like a small, frightened boy... he actually cries."

We also get to see the softer side of Selena in this book (again if you have read the Consumed Series you will understand what I mean). Although, she is softer and definitely more likeable in this book, she is still as tough as nails and not afraid to say her piece. She loves Jackson to distraction and I have loved reading as her character has developed. She is strong yet vulnerable, which is tough to pull off, but Madi does this with ease.

"Oh, make no mistake," I say in my friendlise tone. She looks at me and her eyes thin slight. "He's mine. It's just complicated." - Slammed, Skyla Madi

"Mark my words and hold my heels, I do not play nice when other women touch my things" - Slammed, Skyla Madi

This book is written in dual perspective, we are allowed to see the inner workings of both Jackson and Selena's minds. Selena's heart brokenness is so palpable, it makes your chest ache. It definitely made me want to slap Jackson more than once.

As per Madi's usual flair, the book is filled with loss, sadness, frustration, anger, hope, and the kind of love and passion that heals a broken soul.

The character of Amelia I detested (as I know was Madi's aim), a true romantic villain if ever there was one. Tormenting Jackson with their history and trying to bend his will to succumb to her. I can honestly say that this is one of the best villains written in this genre for a while!

I am giving this book 4 stars - I did love it, but I was a bit disappointed with the fact that it is now being split into a series. I really believe we could have given Jackson his happy ending in 1 book.

Having read the Consumed books I was quite interested in Jackson's story. I'll be honest, I did NOT like Selena at all through that entire series, not even a little. I thought she was an absolute horrible friend and Olivia should have shown her the door. She did grow on me a bit more in Slammed. Still not sure I'd be bff's with her but I'd at least be able to have drinks with her.

For me this had a lot of angst. I like angst. From the previous books we know there was a woman who totally screwed Jackson up. We see Jackson struggle with his past and try to move on. He has strong feelings for Selena but he doesn't know how to deal with them and go forward. We get the back story as to what all this bitch did to mess with our boy. Whoa. She literally f'd with him starting at 17. Amelia, you are beyond evil. You are a manipulative, conniving, cold hearted shrew. I want to punch you in the face and throw you out of a moving vehicle.

Then comes the loudest sound I've ever fucking heard....the sound of her heart shattering into a million tiny pieces. I see it too. It tightens her chest, then her throat, before making her eyes water. "Why don't you say it back? Why can't you just fucking love me?" Tears stream down her cheeks and each and every drop is like a clean punch to my stomach.

We see Selena's struggle with trying to protect her heart from Jackson. All she wants is for him to love her. She wants to stay away, she can't take much more heartache from him. However, their connection is strong and she caves to him again.

Their is angst, heartache, acceptance, and some twists and turns in this book.

There's more in store for these two in Crushed

4 Star Read:
Among some of my favorites. Outstanding literary work. The characters are well developed, interesting. The liked characters are likable and the hated are unlikable. The writing is captivating enough to keep you interested until the end and leave you wanting more. It has a fairly original or uniquely well-developed plot. The pretense and romance were well balanced and done with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors, and chemistry. Not so much predictable if at all. Overall, loved it, I recommend reading!!

Reviewed on behalf of Give Me Books

Jackson... HOT, broody, messed up, and stubborn. I wanted to shake the crap out of this man for most of the book. I know he is not real, so I shook my kindle instead…. Not only did I drop my kindle because it slipped out of my hands, it didn’t help make Jackson any smarter.

Selena… I kind of wanted to believe she was a naive and dumb girl, but she isn’t. She was addicted to Jackson right off the bat. And after reading this story, I would be in the same boat with her rowing in circles around the lake.

The sex... HOT DAMN. Please, please, please, be warned. You will be squirming, you will get hot flashes, you will be horny, and you will need a way to relieve the ache you feel between your legs.

I did not read the previous series prior to being given the opportunity to review Slammed, but I was not lost at all. Things were explained well and if I had not read the “warning” at the beginning, I would not have known that it was a possibility. I think you will love this book, regardless of having read the previous books, and want more – I know I do!!!
