An ancient secret buried in the heart of France. A legendary relic lost to history. And a ruthless villain who will burn the world to possess it.
When renowned archaeologist Sean Wyatt receives a cryptic message from an old friend in Paris, he’s drawn into a mystery tied to one of the most iconic figures in history—Joan of Arc. A long-lost journal has surfaced, one that may reveal the final resting place of her most powerful a ring said to carry a divine energy. But when his contact is murdered before he can share the full truth, Sean and his team are left to unravel a centuries-old trail of riddles, symbols, and hidden catacombs beneath Europe’s ancient cities.
From the shadowy halls of the Palais de Justice in Poitiers to the towering stone walls of the Palais des Papes, Sean and his allies race against a sophisticated cabal led by Victoria Sterling, a high-powered financier whose family ties trace back to the East India Company. Sterling believes the ring holds more than symbolic value—she believes it can bend the will of nations.
But the closer Sean gets to the relic, the more he suspects that the ring was never meant to be found. Traps await at every turn, including a subterranean labyrinth of bones, ancient warnings carved into stone, and mercenaries who strike from the shadows.
As secrets unfold and loyalties are tested, Sean faces the possibility that Joan’s final message wasn’t a map… but a warning. A warning ignored by one woman obsessed with reclaiming a throne of power her family lost long ago. .
Now, as a storm brews over France and the hunt reaches its end, Sean must stop a rising power that could consume them all.
Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
I read this book as an arc, not receiving any pay or compensation. The story starts out with an historian in a library, doing research, when he finds an earth shattering clue in a puzzle that has been his own life's quixotic search. The story right then turns dark. What follows is a globetrotting, follow the clues, life in constant danger mystery to find an artifact of Joan of Arc's that no one believed was real or existed. And, in the end, the one who covered it so badly, paid their own price for it. Join Sean and Tommy and some new friends on this new adventure!!!
YOU'RE ONLY SUPPOSED TO BLOW THE BLOODY DOORS OFF!
A quote from one of my all time favourite movies, which sums up the next adventure with Sean and Tommy perfectly.
Ernest Dempsey has outdone himself with The Saint's Covemant, the doors have well and truly been blown away with this high octane and heart-pounding architectural thriller.
Whilst in Paris, Sean and Tommy receive the devastating news that one of their friends and fellow historians has been murdered while looking into the most powerful ring known to man, the ring that belonged to Joan of Arc.
Sean and Tommy with the help from fellow historian Evelyn and ex-military buddy Jean-Marc, go in search for what their friend was murdered for.
But of course they are not alone in wanting to find the ring, the men that murdered their friend has a boss and Victoria Sterling is a ruthless adversary that has money and power behind her and the belief that she is a true descendant and the ring is truly hers. Has Sean and Tommy finally met their match with Victoria and her paid mercenaries?
The ending had me not just on the edge of my seat but also gasping for breath.
Another amazing relic hunt that twists and turns in all directions keeping you on the edge of your seat. Whenever Sean and Tommy are sent on a quest for an ancient item that may or may not have survived from the past, they always seems to end up with a lot more than just a simple search. From the very first paragraph, the reader is mystified by riddles impossible to understand that lead to clues and ancient secrets, and always with the possibility of lethal results. This time the relic is Joan of Arc’s ring which as been missing for 500 years and may have magical powers. But has it? While they search they are sent from clue to clue to clue, this time ending up in unbelievable caverns and tunnels under old cities in France that date back hundreds of years. While they continue the search, they are chased down by mercenaries sent with lethal intent by an insane financier whose family has ties to the old East India Company that used to run most of Europe, who feels she is entitled to the supposed magical powers of the ring. This adventure is incredible and I definitely recommend this next adventure to all readers.
The Saint’s Covenant, book 24 in the Sean Wyatt series surprised me several times throughout the story. Sure, all the previous books have surprises that Sean and Tommy encounter in their quest for the prizes they seek. But along with those kinds of surprises, this story had a bit of a darker nature than its predecessors, which took me by surprise. That darker nature is not a bad or good thing; it’s just an observation and the conclusion I drew from it relates to Sean’s past. I wonder if someday we might get a Sean Wyatt Axis agent story or two.
Once again Mr. Dempsy weaves a believable tapestry of history, and fiction filled with well-developed characters, who at times seem larger-than-life, that keeps the reader firmly in its unrelenting grasp until the final word on the final page.
Now that I’ve had my annual Sean Wyatt fix, I’ll anxiously await Mr. Dempsy’s next offering that I know will keep me enthralled yet again.
3.5 Stars rounded up. I would describe this novel as Indiana Jones-Lite or possibly watered down. There's seems to be an extended amount of description about nearly everything they see, eat, or wear, when you would think that it was the action that was center-stage. In this latest Ernest Dempsey episode, Sean and Tommy are looking for a ring associated with Joan of Arc with the usual Keystone Cops-like bad guys pursuing them. I really like this author's writing, but for me this one wasn't quite as good as his previous books.
Ernest Dempsey is a master storyteller and this book is a masterpiece. Filled with history and dripping of adventure. Sean and Tommy are in Europe tracking down a friend’s discovery only to find they aren’t the only ones after prize. A relic from the 1400s. One that could have powers to change the world, but in the wrong hands it could be devastating. If you like a good adventure with amazing history come to life, this is one you will want to read.
I've read everything I could find about Sean and Tommy and gang that you authored. I'm sure I can keep looking to find more. Not often you can enjoy everything by one author. I was a hair away from becoming an archaeologist as a young woman but fate...The incredible detail you provide will keep anyone mesmerized who values action, history, and fascinating characters in a great series. May you have a long and full life; please keep writing!
I've read all 24 of the Sean Wyatt series by Ernest Dempsey and enjoyed them, however, I'm rating this just a solid 3 stars because frankly I'm getting tired of the same storyline. The hooks for the various stories are all different and draw on multiple historical and archeological discoveries, which is always fascinating. However, the overall story never really varies from book to book. I remain a Dempsey fan, but I'm hoping he will do something more original soon.
There were several times where the characters knew things that they had no business knowing without even a one sentence back story (example: the French friend of Tommy’s knew the head henchman’s name, but the author offered no explanation for it). Thankfully Sean isn’t as pedantic as he usually is about being vegan, but eating a juicy steak every once in a while & treating his body well (no shame in that, but the delivery is off, majorly)
One of Ernest Dempsey‘s best yet stories the Saints covenant kept me on the edge of my seat. The entire time was reading. It was so exciting that I read it all night and didn’t get to go to sleep till 3 o’clock in the morning. I highly recommend another buck by Ernest Dempsey
Too much action and nail-biting for just one book!
Outstanding from beginning until the end. Ernest Dempsey wields words as a concert pianist wields notes. One of many of his books I’ve read and enjoyed. One more used up for my next journey into suspense, action, and darned good writing.
The author has the ability to pull you into a description of all of the things around the characters, making you feel a part of the story. It might be good, in my opinion, to tone it down just slightly, but not much. The flow of the story is excellent and you can get a feeling for each character involved. Excellent book
I was wondering if there might have been a co- author. The story didn't flow very well and a couple of times the beginning of the sentence had zero to do with the end of the sentence. I've read all of the Sean Wyatt's and this one just wasn't quite up to par. A little editing would have helped.
You shouldn't be surprised that the Good guys find all the important clues just like Indiana? If you are an expert, what is in p!ain view tells you more than an ordinary person would see. Dempsey does a lot of research for his stories and that tells in adding real flesh to them rather than made up places. Just go with the flow and enjoy.
Can Sean and Tommy stay one step ahead of a secretive organization that's been hiding for hundreds of years and discover an artifact of immense power and keep it safe or will it wind up in the wrong hands and potentially destroy the world as we all know it?
Sean and the crew always entertain and always a great read. But.....how many times can one read about the smell of fresh baked bread! Just kidding but it is rather over done.
Once again Ernest Dempsey crafted a story based on a historic person. I really enjoyed this book: action, intrigue, danger, but not nearly as much shooting! Perfect blend of action, history, relic hunting, and bad guys/girl. Ready for Book 25!
I would Recommend this book to everyone. The rich description envelopes you and involves all your senses making you feel truly and completely involved in the action Absolutely loved it
Everything we love about Dempsey’s Sean Wyatt and Tommy Schultz: solving riddles and clues in pursuit of a mystical legendary relic, danger on every side, hero’s doing epic stuff! what else could you want?
very descriptive, moving, chalked full of history and action. The use of accurate and thoughtup histories intertwine and move the story forward where you wonder if any thing is actually TRUE...enough to check some things out after you finish the actual book!!!!! of course this has 5 stars.
Enjoyed the story, but to many words and pages spent on the way something locked and smelled. I understand some decryptions but not 3/4 of a chapter and repeating it again three chapters later. I have an imagination and I like using it. Maybe some people need it to feel the story.
Plenty of action, intrigue, and history well-woven. You'll learn while enjoying the storyline too! Would recommend this to others. Only complaint? Author over-adjectives!
As with several of his other novels with the same adventurous team, this novel was fun to read and kept the action fast and somewhat curious. The characters were consistent and shared a great sense of humor amid the adventures. Well done
I love everything Mr Dempsey writes and this one did not disappoint. Wyatt and Sean always make me smile and I love the suspense throughout. Great read
