Come back to the Island of Vorn, where mythical creatures roam free and only the brightest students are invited to study them. Uncover the island's mysteries as Sorceline and her friends work to save the magical beasts from all new threats.
After discovering the true identity of her mother, Sorceline finds herself tangled up in more mysteries and tests than ever before. With the departure of Archibald Balzar, she and the other students find themselves left in the care of Vorn, an entity at the center of their troubles who doesn't seem to share their concern for magical beasts.
Sorceline must find a way to free her father and save her mother from Vorn, but as she investigates, the creatures of the island face a new threat. While her friends look for treatments to puzzling injuries and Sorceline investigates, they'll soon find themselves the target of a mystical predator that threatens to destroy the island sanctuary for good. With strong female leads, plenty of action and mystery, this series will thrill girls ages 9-11!
Book 3 in the Sorceline adventures, and while this move the plot forward, it still brings in more storylines that don't have conclusions. This book also jumps all over the place, more than the first two. While it's interesting to read about the characters as they developed, it's also frustrating that nothing is concluded. There will be at least one more book, with hopefully no additional plotlines added. If you liked the first two, then you'll like this one, if only for the delightful creatures shown. This is not a series you can pick up whenever though, I almost need to reread the first two to understand what is happening.
This book in the series is a little grim and dark. There's some animal cruelty and exploitation; gas lighting of characters by an older figure; emotional bullying between same age characters and questionable experimental practices. I mean, am I reading too deep into it but it's allegedly a middle-grade fantasy adventure but my dislike for this book is on par with Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. I don't think younger children should read this without adult supervision or even at all.
2.5 my least favorite volume in this series so far, The only thing I really like about this is that Vorn, their enemy, is their teacher, that intrigues me a little bit, but other than that, it's kind of boring, not sure what to make of that cliffhanger...
The plot's getting darker with Sorceline being the sorcerer's apprentice of darkness! Well, I think it makes sense since her name itself contain the word 'sorce(er)'. It's getting more mysteries and plotting.
