Within the Tack Enterprises group of underground fighters, Tor Burns is one of the few non-infected vampires committed to saving his diseased comrades from the vicious clutches of the Vampire Council. He is the meanest, strongest and most impulsive member of the team. Having survived a vicious attack in their underground facility, he now has a new purpose: guard the irresistible daughter of their fallen leader no matter the price. Armed with an abrasive personality and fierce loyalty, Tor approaches this new responsibility with serious determination despite his reservations.
Infected and hunted by the Council, Allison Tack is unable to do as she pleases. A co-heir of the Tack fortune, this beautiful and timid vampire is guarded by those loyal to her father. A walking target wherever she goes, Allison wants to learn how to protect herself, but no one is listening. Sick of being the helpless one in the company of trained fighters around her, Allison vows to prove that she can fight alongside the best of them.
Meanwhile, the harem leader, Melissa, is hell-bent on unraveling any clue about her son Demetrius’ fate. He disappeared without a word, and time has made her desperate. Stepping up her efforts, she seeks the help of Demetrius’ son, Zane. With the additional manpower, Melissa finds the lair of the suspected vampires and wages war against them.
Thrown together by necessity, Tor and Allison can’t continue to deny their attraction to each other. Tor wants to give in to his feelings for her, but old demons resurface. Tormented by a dark secret, Tor must confront the past to prevent losing the best thing that ever happened to him.
A life must be given for a life taken. Will Tor have to sacrifice himself before Allison pays the price?
A professional daydreamer, Lorenz Font discovered her love of writing after reading a celebrated novel that inspired one idea after another. Since being published in 2013, she has been conspiring, butting heads, and enjoying her spare time with vampires, angels, samurais, and other creatures she has created in her head.
Her perfect day consists of writing and lounging on her garage couch (a.k.a. the office) with a glass of her favorite cabernet while listening to her ever-growing music collection. She finds writing urban fantasy exhilarating and places an intense focus on angst and the redemption of flawed characters. Her fascination with romantic twists is a mainstay in all her stories.
Lorenz lives in Southern California with her supportive family and three demanding dogs.
I received a digital copy in exchange for an honest review from The Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House and Netgalley.
You know those moments that you are dying to discover a new author but just can't find one that stands out among the rest so you take a chance on an unknown? Lorenz was mine. Tormented is a shot gun blast that will take you for one hell of a ride. I absolutely loved it. I am so addicted and so thrilled that I HAVE to add Tormented, Hunted, and the third book Ascension to my collection at home. I can't believe how fantastical and suspenseful The Gates Legacy series is. I couldn't help thinking why hadn't I heard of these books before? Where did they come from? I can't get enough. I love the characters, I love the plot, I love the brilliant story telling and the dedication Lorenz puts into her writing! I have so much anticipation to read the first book so that I can know everything that goes into this grand world Lorenz has built.
This series must be read in order. The first book is Hunted (The Gateway Legacy Book 1). This is the second book.
All of the vampires and humans have become a family. Be they Infected or Pureblood or just normal Turned Vampires... They seek to create an environment where they can all thrive together as a makeshift family within an enlightened society. The losses they have suffered have got them hard and they are struggling to fill important roles within their community in order to move forward to finding and actual cure for the disease instead of just moving forward with it dormant. They all are feeling the loss of their key players and their fearless leader. Big shoes are hard to fill and moving forward is difficult when they seem to be surrounded on all sides by enemies both seen and unseen. Treachery and intrigues abound both within and outside their group.
All of the Infected vampires are going through the pseudo cure and learning to protect themselves. Harrow and Jordan are happily raising Gail as their own and everyone sees her as part of the family ( they are all Aunties and Uncles to the charming little terror) and the group is becoming a cohesive unit in all ways. Will they be able to raise Gail? Or will their dangerous lives end hers? Will Tor ever admit his feelings for Allison or will whatever haunts him keep them apart? Is Goran ever going to quit hunting Jordan? What is Goran REALLY up to?
This series is an awesome fresh take on vampires and their origins. Filled with real relationships and every day issues I feel fully immersed in their world when I read it! The suspense and intrigue ramp up the action and thriller nature while complicating the romantic relationships much more than is possible in our reality. This series is an awesome addition to any paranormal library and I cannot wait to read the conclusion! I will be incredibly sad when this series is over!
As the second installment to The Gates Legacy Series, this one doesn’t let us down. It starts with showing us the major changes that had to be made in order to protect the unit that Harrow is now in charge of. While they are still grieving the loss of their fellow friends and co workers, they are trying to establish a safe base in which they can work from.
This book is centered around Tor and Allison, which we met in Hunted. We are able to see into the past of Tor and what haunts him night after night, while we watch Allison come to terms with losing her father and her home. We are left many times questioning if Allison will be able to break through the walls around Tor’s heart. Melissa, has one goal and one goal only, to find her son Demetrius, who went missing after the last attack that killed so many of our beloved characters in Hunted.
Trust me when I say, the action didn’t let up with this book, it was still another action packed thriller that played out like a big screen movie. Lorenz didn’t pull any punches when she wrote this, as she tugged at our heart-strings and reduced us to tears and fits of anger. The last half of the book when it all came together was so intense I literally felt my heart beating out of my chest and knew I should put the book down but there was no way I could wait to see what happen next.
She has the talent of taking many stories and weaving it together into one scene that leaves your brain scrambled and your heart begging for more. To see the love of two mothers toward their children and the love Jordan has for Gail was empowering. To have grown men risk their lives for Gail during a heated battle, made my heart melt and the tears flow. She took a fictional story and immerse the reader to the point you actually find yourself ducking the blows and fighting the battles. You scream at points because you feel you are in the scene and you crumble with heart-break when you couldn’t save a beloved character.
I am so excited for everyone to read this series, Tormented will leave you wanting more. I am not sure we will ever be ready to let go of these characters. The are so well-developed they become real as you read them. Awesome job, awesome book and an experience of a lifetime to read.
The second book picks up where the first left off. It continues with the story of Tack Enterprises and the newly bonded "family" after a horrific ordeal following the attack on the facility that left several members fatally injured. Harrow has taken over after Pritchard Tack’s death. He has Jordan at his side, and Tack’s daughter Allison is like a sister to him. The infected are still in danger and it is Tor’s task to protect Allison. Tor finds himself developing feelings for the beautiful vampire, but will his past keep them apart?
To say Lorenz Font wrote yet ANOTHER amazing page turner would be an understatement. This author truly knows how to grasp the audience attention and keep it. The author created her own unique version and storyline. She brings a whole new look to the table in this genre. It had me on the edge of my seat. I could HONESTLY not put this book down! Definitely a page turner as was the first. This world she creates is a spell binding world. The more you read, the more you get sucked into this fantasy of how life is for these characters. The characters alone are strong, unique and relatable. I loved the book and the author did NOT disappoint at all. I hope you keep writing because you are very talented and I look forward to reading more of your work!
Tormented takes place where Hunted left off, Allison, Harrow and the rest of the survivors are morning the loss of their beloved Pritchard Tack.
I didn’t think I would like another book in this series a much as I enjoyed the first book, but Lorenz Font, did a great job with this one as well. There was so much action that kept me guessing and engaged. I loved the new characters that were introduced and development of old characters. It was very interesting to get more of the POV some of the vampires in Goran’s Harlem. Of course I missed hearing Harrow and Jordan’s story as the bulk of the book, but I enjoyed hearing about Allison and Tor. Finally, seeing Tor’s past to see who he really is and things he went through in the past. WOW!
Jordan and Harrow continued to take on their new parental roles. I adored Gail and the relationships she has with all the people in her family, and she certainly has a BIG one.
What a great sequel and I'm just looking forward for a third book. I'm so intrigued to see what will come next. You will love this book if you like this genre it is just that good.
*Tormented picks up where Hunted, the first novel in The Gates Legacy series left off, and it is not a stand alone book. You will be completely confused unless you've read Hunted. There are just too many interwoven characters to jump right in, so I strongly recommend you follow the series.
With that said, I really enjoyed Tormented and I love Tor, not as much as I was crushing on Harrow, but he definitely has a place in my heart!
I am a huge fan of Lorenz Font's writing, previously having read Invisible Line and Hunted, and I have the ARC for Feather Light that I am also looking forward too.
The author has an uncanny ability to just reel you in to the worlds and characters she creates. There is no over the top drama, no roller coaster filled angst, and no grand gestures sweeping you off your feet.
What you do get is just good story telling and deliberate building of the characterizations. Lot's of suspense, emotion, and depth that you develop your own roller coaster anticipating the characters next move.
Lorenz Font's writing just puts you in the middle of every situation and interaction going on, very visual and a lot of texture to her words. And yes, I have a serious girl crush on the author, in case you were wondering.
Now, on to Tormented.
We pick up right where Hunted left off. Harrow and Jordan are together and they have come together finally in such an easy and comfy way.
Definitely deserved too I might add, you just can't help but smile for them. The story does move though with a really good pace giving us much more of Allison, Tack's daughter and the tortured but most alluring hero, Tor.
I really like Allison and Tor and was very pleased to see Tormented revolve so much around them and their budding relationship. Now their relationship is not an easy one at all. Remember Tor is very standoffish putting up walls around his heart. Allison has grown tremendously in her own right as well. Very feisty and spirited now. Reading these two was more like watching them that the dialogue was so descriptive, again I felt like I was part of the story. The emotions and chemistry they oozed was just wow!
And then there's Melissa. My heart just hurts for her and the search to find her son, Demetrius. So many feels happening.
And of course the evil Council is still about continuing in their reign of horrors to wipe out the infected vampires.
Tormented is really so good! So driven is the story line that you will find yourself reading non stop. The characterizations are done so well that that you truly believe in their existence. Not an easy task with the amount of vampire genres that exist but the author really nails it with her own uniqueness.
I know I am all bubbly and gloating but I hate giving spoilers and the story is so packed and interwoven it's difficult to contain myself.
Tormented is truly a must read, of course after you read Hunted first. The Gates Legacy is one of kind in originality that you will enjoy.
This book is the second in The Gates Legacy series and follows directly on from Hunted. Set in a world where vampires exist and struggle to survive we meet Allison whose still reeling from the recent death of her beloved father Pritchard Tack. Tack had set out to save his vampire daughter and those like her from a virus that's spreading rapidly , a virus not unlike human aids. Humans and vampires now fight together to find a cure and prevent the vampire council from hunting down and killing the infected. Tor is a non infected vampire who has been asked by Harrow -their leader- to protect Allison and act as her bodyguard. Tor is a strong, respected male who unknown to his friends has his own demons to face. Determined to do his best no matter what challenges he faces. Almost from the first time she met him Allison has found the enigmatic vampire compelling. His rugged exterior and bravado do little to hide his depth of character. She senses that her attraction is not just one sided but how can she convince Tor that she's not a liability? Constantly treated as though she needs protection Allison is determined to prove she can help fight and wants nothing more than to help in the coming war. The vampire council is run by Goran who is determined to rid the world of Harrow and all others who stand in his way. Having started to create his own private army he's adamant that no one will bring him down. His vampire bride Melissa is desperate to find out what happened to her son Demetrius and realises that she will get no help from Goran. She sets out to find her grandson Zane in order to find out the truth but the truth is the last thing that Goran wants revealed! A head on collision between two opposing armies will change the face of Tack enterprises once again. Can Allison survive more heartbreak and will Tor ever let down his walls? If Goran succeeds in his plans the outcome will be death and destruction. Fantastic follow up to Hunted. We meet characters that the author had introduced in the previous book and start to see them as strong individuals. It would be wrong I think to describe this as a paranormal romance as its so much more. A truly unique and interesting storyline pulls the reader into this world. A wealth of supporting characters that surely must get their own books at some point. Vivid imagery and descriptive language throughout help paint a picture in the readers mind. I really want to know what happens next and have to offer a warning that this author is not afraid to maim or even kill some of her characters Definitely recommended
Tormented is an amazing follow up to Hunted. I have to say that this Vampire world keeps getting better and better as we delve into the crux of things. There is so much going on and beneath the secrets and the lies when things come to the forefront all hell breaks lose.
Allison is still trying to get over the loss of her father Pritchard Tack. Her father was close to finding the cure to this horrible disease that is killing the vampires. With Gates Syndrome killing the vampires Pritchard came up with a semi cure that could help prolong the lives of the infected vampires but was killed before he could complete his research. Now his daughter is left alone and the people who loved her father are willing to do whatever it takes to save her from the clutches of the council. They decide to higher Tor Burns who is a fierce alpha who will do anything to keep Allison safe.
At first Tor is torn because he has a bad feeling about protecting Allison but as time goes on the closer they get Tor realizes he is having real feelings for her and that can't happen because he has demons he has to fight and no matter what he has to keep his head on straight in order to protect her from the council who is hunting her down. See Goran has his sights set on the prize and no matter what anyone says or does he is determined to rid the world of the infected vampires. But Goran has some serious stuff going on in his life because his wife Melissa is looking for her son Demetrius who has disappeared and she wants to know where he is and she will stop at nothing to find him so she enlists the help of her grandson Zane. But Goran is determined to stop her because what she will find out will destroy them and cause war. But a mother's love knows no boundaries or obstacles and when Melissa uncovers the truth all hell breaks lose.
This is a great follow up top Hunted and I need more! I need the next book like ASAP!
Tormented is the second book of the Gate’s Legacy Trilogy. It takes place where the first book Hunted left off. Harrow has taken over after Pritchard Tack’s death. He has Jordan at his side, and Tack’s daughter Allison is like a sister to him. The infected are still in danger and it is Tor’s task to protect Allison. Tor finds himself developing feelings for the beautiful vampire, but will his shady past keep them apart?
As with the last book I am crazy about Harrow and Jordan as a couple. I love the fact they have settled into a comfortable relationship. The characters that take the cake in this second book are Allison and Tor without a doubt. Both of these characters have grown leaps and bounds since the first installment. Allison who was always very likeable is the one, in my opinion, who changed the most. In the first book she seemed so quiet and sheltered, but in Tormented she really finds herself and discovers what she is really made of. She and Tor have a chemistry that may even rival that of Harrow and Jordan!
Fonts really brought her A-game with Tormented. The action and suspense had my insides in knots. There were so many ups and downs there were times I had to remind myself to breathe! She gave us more insight on Goran’s harem. I am now convinced he is a perfect villain. Font’s writing just seems to put the reader in the middle of the action, and gives them a chance to live in another world, if only for a short time.
If you have already read Hunted you definitely need to pick up Tormented, because the story just gets better! If you are a fan of the vampire genre and haven’t tried these books pick them up. I am shaking with anticipation to see how the story ends; I can’t wait to get my greedy little hands on the next book!

Wow! Talk about a page turner! Book two continues with the story of Tack Enterprises and the newly bonded "family" after a harrowing ordeal following the attack on the facility that left several members fatally injured.
Harrow and Jordan have taken on new roles within the hierarchy of the group out of necessity and keeping them safe. In the process, Tor and Alison are thrown together in an attempt to keep Alison safe as they adjust to their new living arrangements while continuing on the mission of helping diseased vampires who are still being targeted by the Vampire Counsel.
Alison is painfully grieving her loss, while Tor is haunted by his past demons and refuses to let Alison in, but watches her pain and aches to comfort her. The tension, hidden pain and underlying sexual tension between these two are obvious to everyone around them and becomes more than they can bear until it explodes in more ways than one.
Behind the scenes, Goran and his harem are still plotting and killing diseased vampires, while Melissa grieves her missing son. Goran is hell bent on taking over the counsel and removing anyone that disagrees with his vision of beautiful redheads ruling alongside him in any capacity he sees fit.
Revenge is sought by both sides and book two climaxes with an unforgettable battle that leaves both sides dealing with devastating losses.
If you want a book that is filled with hilarious banter, crazy good action and a romance that will keep you coming back for more, then pick up a copy of Tormented today! You won't regret it. Be sure to read book one, Hunted, or you will miss out on the first love story between Harrow and Jordan. I don't know where Ms. Font plans to take us in book three, but I am sure she won't disappoint if books one and two are any indication!
Where to begin with the second installment of The Gates Legacy . . .
WOW is as good a place as any for Font clearly hit her stride while penning this one.
Tormented continues the main story line of the war between the Vampire Council and "Team Tack"- a motley crew of vampires and humans, also known as 'the good guys,' who are out to assist the ailing vampires of the world.
We get to see how the relationship between Jordan and Harrow has progressed since Hunted, how little Gail has endeared her way into everyone's hearts, and my favorite development: how Font brought some of the side characters from book one to the forefront of book two to give them their moment in the spotlight.
I should add here that Ms. Font has drawn her line in the sand; The Gates Legacy is an adult series without question now. Not so much in that its graphically explicit in its descriptions - its not - but it does delve into well-written situations from intimate moments (Can we get a whoopi cheer for Ally & Tor? Those two definitely needed it!) to mayhem and murder.
Yes, folks, death happens. Characters die, but the story goes on.
So much is packed into Tormented that I can only encourage you to get your copy so you don't miss any of it. This was a fantastic addition to the Legacy and I await, with high anticipation, the arrival of Ascension.
Font's style is engaging, action-packed, and heartfelt. She writes from within her soul, and I foresee great things coming from her in the future.
With her book “Tormented”, author Lorenz Font writes about vampires in a unique way. She creates characters, (human and vampire), with their own agendas and unique profiles. I was immediately drawn into the story of Harrow, his family and friends, and their enemies. Font writes with depth and vivid detail, making ‘Tormented’ an easy to imagine story. The story held me captive until the end. Font writes a book full of love, commitment, betrayals, sorrow, and horror. She blends it all together and piece by piece the pieces of the puzzle start to fit. I don’t want to add any spoilers, so just let me say, “I loved this book”. It is an excellent read filled with action. ‘Tormented’ should be on everyone’s ‘To Be Read List’.
Intense. That is the first word that come to mind when I think about Tormented. This book was intense. There were times when I was reading as fast as I could to see what would happen next. Other times I was trying to slow things down. I was glad to be back in the world of Tack Enterprises and the family. This book picks up a year after the first book ended. We meet some new people and get to know Goran, the evil vampire, more. This book has so much action and suspense, it was hard to keep up. I want to know more about these characters, and I certainly hope that there is another book in the works. The love story between Allison and Tor is one for the ages. In the face of adversity, they continue to help each other, to the end. If you like vampire books, this one is for you! 4.5 out of 5!
This book rocked and Tack enterprises does not disappoint. As the second book starts it is about keeping Tack enterprises going after Pritchards untimely death and as Harrow steps up to keep our group going. As everyone is adjusting to this new environment everyones relationships deepen and love is defeinetly in the air! Tor and Allison's relationship evolves as Tor struggles with his own personal demons. Harrow and Jordan's adjust as their responsibilities increase, and Rohnert (who is my fave) battles his beliefs as he struggles with feelings for a human. This book was exceptional and will leave you wanting more! Can't wait for the third book which promises even more action, love and heartbreak for our team of vampire infected and their friends while they battle the Vampire council.
A hands down winner! A paranormal novel which was superbly written that it give us meaningful insight into the vampire world. Lorenz Font has the uncanny ability of bringing dissimilar, yet very memorable characters together that make the story unique and interesting.it was written with such depth of emotion that will entice the reader to look forward to the next series of Gates Trilogy. i was drawn to it like a magnet. i can't wait to read the last series. A must read for all fans of paranormal genre.
A very good continuing chapter to Hunted. Even though the main characters are Tor and Allison and not Harrow and Jordan, you will be lost if you haven't read the first one.
Tormented (The Gates Legacy #2) starts off with a bang—the bang of a wrecking ball. After Tack Enterprises was infiltrated by the evil Demetrius and beloved CEO, Pritchard Tack, was murdered, those left behind recognized the need to move headquarters. Still mourning their fallen leader, those who remain must continue his work, continue to fight.
Book one focused on the budding relationship between Harrow and Jordan. Book two puts the spotlight on Allison (the late Pritchard’s daughter) and Tor (her bodyguard). Tor has some painful secrets that hold him back from getting involved with Allison even though he feels the pull as much as she does.
What I really like is that Harrow and Jordan aren’t shelved in this volume. They are an integral part of the story, as is the inevitable, blooming romance between Rohnert and Shelly—and I suspect book three will focus on those two.
Lorenz Font created a wonderfully rich set of characters that jump off the page. They’re very real and very “human,” sometimes allowing their emotions to cloud their judgment. Goran is pure evil, and I can’t wait for someone to dish it back to him. I found myself sympathizing (a little) with Melissa, the head mistress of Goran’s harem. It’s to the author’s credit that she created characters with depth and layers, so readers can find something to identify with in all of them—even Zane.
The writing is descriptive enough, without being overly wordy or flowers, that I easily pictured what was happening. Ms. Font can really write a fight scene—volatile, exciting, brutal—and she’s not afraid to injure, maim . . . or kill major players. Everything isn’t hearts and flowers. Things get real, plans go awry.
Spoilerish comment ahead

One small critique I have regards the two new couples. When Tor finally gives into his feelings for Allison, he is rather cavemanish about the decision—a “you wanted me, so now you’re going to have me” kind of thing. The same type of scenario happens between Rohnert and Shelly. (Let’s not talk about Rohnert—after what he did with Shelly, he needed a good slap.) This is personal preference when reading fiction, but I believe a woman’s full consent is always required, even between established or married couples. Both women were willing, but there wasn’t much wiggle room allowed for if they weren’t.

Spoilerish commentary over.
Many trilogies suffer from “sagging middle syndrome.” That is not the case here. In fact, I would go so far as to say book two is a good deal stronger than book one. It’s grittier, has more action, and no fade-to-black scenes. The writing is tighter and more polished. I did come across some minor typos in my copy—which was an ARC—but it was well edited overall.
This is well worth the read, and I’m looking forward to book three!
The Gates Legacy – Tormented by Lorenz Font review
From reading the first book of The Gates Legacy left me hunger to find out more about all these characters.
Where Hunted focused mainly on Harrow and Jordan Tormented has main focus is on Tor and Allison. It took me about first hundred pages when I realized that the name Tormented has actually double meaning.
After undergone devastating loss of Pritchard Tack the leader of The Tack Enterprices, Harrow Gates has taken his given position as new leader of the Tack Enterprices and their underground group.
From the start Tor keeps trying to fight with ghosts from his pasts while his feelings towards Allison keeps growing, he keeps trying to deny them because he is afraid that he would hurt her, and part of him thinks he doesn't deserve to be loved.
Allison struggles with pain of losing her father, thinking that his death was her fault. Only things that seems to help her is when she is close to Tor. From the moment she first met him she had felt deep attraction towards him and she has decided to get closer to him, to be with him.
Though the main focus are in these two characters we find out more about other characters too and it makes story more interesting when you grow emotional bond to them. We get small insight to mysterious Rohnert and his complex feelings to the doctor Shelly.
Goran seems to be his cold himself while his head mistress Melissa is worried where her son Demetrius has disappeared. It is understandable that she is worried her missing son, but reading more it seems even more complex, that she had this obsession over him. I know there isn't mates in these books but her reaction to being part of him reminds me of loss of ones soul mate, which sounds kind of ridiculous because they are Mother and Child, but then again, Goran lets to be seen in his thoughts that he too has been thinking that they were too close to each other.
Son of Demetrius, Zane is in bit bigger role in this book too and he too starts to show small obsession towards Demetrius mother; his own grandmother.
There were moments in this story where I had tears almost falling from my eyes, because the emotional bond I had grown for all characters and then when some of them met their end in really broke something inside of me.
Lorenz Font succeeded again to make me love this series even more than I already loved it before and I want to give her honor mention as the Reaper.
I must say that I absolutely LOVED every word and line from this story and I can't wait to read what will happen next. Again.
Thank you Lorenz for writing this extraordinary story.

If you follow my reviews then you'll know I loved Hunted and I'm a sucker (pun intended) for anything connected to vampires. That said, I always worry with series that they won't match up to the hype or the quality, but rest assured, Font hit the ground running with this one and it does not disappoint.
It continues on flawlessly from the first book, with a odd bod gang of vamps and humans still reeling from the twists and turns they've been subjected to (apologies for the vagueness, but I loathe spoilers). As always with Font's writing, there are many perspectives from which to tell a story, but as always, she's written it splendidly and it's always clear exactly which POV and which character you're following - a skill of hers I've loved since the first piece of writing I sampled. I love how we see the perspectives of new characters in this book, namely more of Tor and Ally, alongside familiar favourites Harrow and Jordan. The character development, as a whole, is fabulous, Font is skilled in showing such growth in all characters in such a short space of narrative, but Tor in particular really stands out for all the right reasons in this story. His growth as a character is phenomenal, and the changes are superbly written. As a reader, you want to be able to get into the heads of the characters and Font does just that for us with Tor.
She writes in the same vein of twisting and turning and never quite fully letting you know what's going to happen. As a result, the plot twists are fabulous and completely unexpected. Furthermore, the way the information is drip fed, oh so slowly, keeps you completely hooked, like an addict after their next fix you turn each page and devour it in no time. You feel everything that happens - the thrill of the battle, the horror of loss, the sorrow for thee deaths which come thick and fast. It's all brilliantly done.
This is a stunning piece of storytelling and a series I have added to my favourites list. I cannot wait to see what Font does next with these characters, but I have a feeling I should heed the warnings of a friend and not get too attached to anyone. A very worthy 5 stars and an excellent continuation of what promises to be a phenomenal series.

Usually, a second installment of a series of books isn’t as captivating and gripping as the first. That is not the case with Tormented, the second in the Gates Legacy.
At the end of Hunted, the first in the trilogy, we are left on a bit of a cliffhanger, with our merry band of vamps and humans struggling after the attack that proved fatal for more than a few of the characters. Tormented picks up as the characters are trying to salvage what they can.
This story is centered more around Tor and Alison, rather than Harrow and Jordan as in Hunted, with chapters from members of the Vampire Council. This shift in central characters allows the reader to get more of an insight into what were secondary characters. Font teases us with Tor’s past mixed in with his present life.
This mix is compelling reading that makes us want to read more. We HAVE to know why he is the way he is, especially when his past causes him to bring Annie into the character’s new home which is frowned upon by certain members of this mismatched family.
I’m not giving any more of the plot away, if you want more. Buy the book. You won’t be sorry.
I’ll admit, I was unsure of Tor after reading Hunted, but this book made him more real, and alarmingly, considering he’s a vampire, more human. None of her characters are perfect. They have flaws, pasts they regret, and they struggle to talk to those they love. This is what makes these books unputdownable.
As soon as I’d finished reading, I was straight on Facebook asking about book three. There are things I NEED to know and characters that I need to know about. Rohnert and Cyrus in particular. It’s going to be a very long wait, but one that will be well worth it!
I haven’t read many vampire books. I’ve read Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga and that’s it. I’ve seen just about every vampire movie ever made. All I can say is Lorenz Font has created a vampire race like no other I’ve ever seen.
I read both books 1 & 2 in about 36 hours. Font’s characters grab a hold of you from the first page and don’t let go till the last. Whether they are good or bad guys, whether you love them or hate them, you are completely engulfed in this fictional fantasy world.
I’m finding it very hard to do what I consider a proper review without giving away too much and I absolutely refuse to do spoilers, it’s just not who I am, ask anyone who knows me. Whenever I’m asked about plots my standard immediate answer is “wait and see”.
The main characters in book two are Tor Burns, an uninfected vampire, and Allison Tack, the infected vampire daughter of Tack Enterprises’ fallen leader Pritchard Tack. Determined to keep Allison safe and to perfect the near-cure, will they be able to get through the walls that Tor has built up concerning his past? Through the secondary characters from Hunted we follow along as they continue to pursue a cure and evade those still hunting the infected sent by the Vampire Council.
Although the central characters are different, you will be lost if you try to read this without first reading Hunted. Once again Lorenz Font has sucked us into the fantasy world she created and you won’t want to leave till you reach the final page.
Intriguing and passionate, be sure to leave yourself plenty of time once you start because again you won’t want to put it down once you pick it up.
To say that Lorenz Font has created a fast moving page turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat is a definite understatement! It starts off where Hunted left off. Harrow is in charge and measures have been taken to ensure the safety of his unit while grieving their losses.
Tor is an amazing tortured hero that little by little we get to know through the amazing writing abilities of Lorenz Font. Allison has suffered so many losses and is now faced with melting the ice around Tor's heart which proves to be a daunting task that at times she herself questions her ability to do.
Ms. Font creates characters that pull at your heartstrings. They are so vividly realized that the reader actually feels the love Allison has for Tor and the torment Melissa feels in her quest to find her son, Demetrius.
The story line is riveting and powerful. So believable in its content and description that the book was difficult to put down. It was action packed and thrilling. I felt as though I myself had been a part of the battle where men were risking their lives to save Gail. I cried, screamed and jumped for joy.
This book is a beautiful installment in what is proving to be an amazing series!
Absolutely loved this book. Lorenz has not let us down with the second book in this series. As usual the writing is flawless and the story is fabulous. I fell in love with all the characters once more. The writing style really allows you to feel the characters and there is a magnificent balance between narrative and prose. The only criticism and I think this is probably more me than the book, is that, it feels a bit like the series is predictable. Not in how the story itself is going but that at a guess I feel I can say that each book is going to be about 2 characters in particular and that they will fall in love, but not just fall in love but have an obstacle to get over and then be joined at the hip. It has occurred in two books now so I can see a bit of a pattern. Having said that it didn't detract from the story, it was fantastic and I cannot wait for the next one, it is just that the love story bit seems a bit predictable, but then you don't really know which characters are going to be next. Would thoroughly recommend this book.
Tormented I received a digital copy in exchange for an honest review from The Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House and Netgalley.
Tormented, The Gates Legacy Book 2, Lorenz Font Review from jeannie zelos book reviews I was certain this was going to develop into a five star read for me, its got all the elements; vampires, action, romance and a decent storyline and yet...it’s still not gripping me the way a five star series does. I’m unable to put those down by choice, and just have to keep reading – you know, how when its late and you promise yourself “just one more chapter” and then its just one more after that, and one more...but this I found didn’t quite suck me in like that. Its a very good story, just not for me one of the great ones. So Harrow is man ( vampire?) number one, happily ensconced with Jordan and playing dad to Gail. They’re all still reeling from the loss of Pritchard, but can’t take time to sit back, they need a new home in case the Vampire Council – in the guise of Goran – have discovered them. Harrow is busy working on that, along with keeping the business going and covering up Pritchard’s death from the public. Allison is grieving and struggling with feeling helpless, and persuades Harrow she needs to learn to fight. She’s also struggling with her attraction to Tor, he wants her but covers it as he thinks he’s undeserving, but the closer they get the harder it is to resist each other. As her bodyguard he’s pretty close most of the time so... Meanwhile Melissa is still searching for Demetrious, Zane wondering what's happened to his father, and left in limbo, Goran is brooding over Jordan not obeying his call, angry with some of the council members for pressing him for an heir and for questioning his decisions and determined to wipe out Harrow and co completely. He’s a devious man though and sets his plans very carefully, protecting himself but seeing his harem as disposable – they’re only there to serve his purpose anyway. Behind the scenes some of the Council members are not happy with his leadership but tied to it for now. When the two sides come together there are losses for both – its a sad time, and I’m wondering where they go next. I would usually be really gripped by now, but though the story is well executed somehow I can’t seem to align myself with any of the specific characters, and for me I usually have at least one person/couple I really care about. Its not that I want to see anyone gone, more that I can see each person as being almost inessential to the overall group - Harrow is leader, but in the same way as he took over from Pritchard I could see someone else stepping up if he was gone. That's great for the group of course, and what every group need – not so much for me though, I don’t feel personally invested in the outcomes of the battles. Stars: Four, another good story despite my feelings, and deserves a solid four rating. ARC supplied by publishers and Netgalley.
I absolutely adored Tor when I was reading Hunted and I thought that Tormented would for sure be my favorite, but I'm actually torn between the two. In some ways, I do like this one better, but in other ways I don't. It's still a great book and it definitely pulled my emotions out even if I didn't enjoy experiencing all of them.
Tormented is a much more complicated read and the title could not be more appropriate. Lorenz Font completely broke my heart, punched me in the gut, and infuriated me. She is a unique writer and in some ways, I honestly cannot figure her out. I can tell you that her style reminds me of a cross between Joss Whedon, J. K. Rowling, and George R. R. Martin. I say this because she's not shy about writing graphic, horrible acts or hurting the good side just as bad as the evil side. However, she also brings romance and comic relief to the table to make things better.
The violence is graphic and everyone's sex, but the main couple's, is graphic too. The violence is not so much the main issue with me as the sex issue is. I have no idea why the author does it that way; it confuses and irritates me because the sex is usually just meaningless. One time it was meaningless and cheap which in turn made me feel cheap. It's not pleasant, I almost stopped reading because of it, and I just don't understand why the author would deny us the chance to see a couple who are in love come together in a beautiful way that makes the reader feel good too.
You might be asking why I kept reading if I felt like that and it's because I was already half way in, I felt that the book might get better, and I might just be overreacting. I stuck with it and I'm glad that I did because there were times when I was sucked into the story so deep that I couldn't pull myself away. There were even times where I laughed, smiled, and felt happy.
I don't know what to say except for a few more things. One, I definitely felt more emotions reading Tormented than Hunted, some I haven't felt before, and despite all the negative, painful ones, I don't regret reading it. Two, if you want a book that will put you through the emotional ringer, than this is definitely the book for you and don't take my feelings to heart because it might not have all the same effect on you that it did on me. The last thing is that I'm looking forward (I know, I'm crazy) to the next book, which is Rohnert's story, although I am very much looking forward to taking a break from the series.
Tormented is a standalone, told from different points of view and there is a HEA. ~ Paige, 4 stars

Another awesome ride... Tormented.. Second book of the Gateway Legacy series. Don’t cheat read the first one.. (smiles) With a bit of a different view on the Vampire world and so much going on. The main story then the little side stories. Action, drama and romance all combined for you reading pleasure.
I think I have me new fav couple, Tor and Allison! Sometimes I saw them as a fitted piece and other times I wanted to smooth both of their edges so they’d fit together better.
Allison Tack’s daughter is in constant danger with a bounty on her head. She is determined to get through the grieving for her father and loss of her home... Basically her way of life. Also come to terms with the ever growing feelings for her protector, what happens when you’re constantly around someone, you already like... Its inevitable. For Tor he battles himself his main concern is the safety of Allison, with him constantly around her softer feeling for her pop up. Feelings that Tor will fight against, for his own inner demons are harsh and ride him hard. What will become of their feeling for each other? Can Allison be that healing balm for Tor? Will Tor risk it?
Oh dont forget about Harlow and Jordan, he’s taken over in Prichard’s footsteps, while keeping his love by his side... They decided to play the mommy and daddy for the little spawn called Gail. All the while making sure the unit does and lives up to the reason it was formed in the first place.
Awesome second installment... Get it get it.. And enjoy..
