Welcome to Heart Gardening (Volume 1), an offering of prayers written in the hope of drawing nearer to the One who draws near to us.
These prayers are not for the polished or the proud, but for those who fumble, ache, and wonder—for souls that know they need tending.
Each day invites you to behold God. And in that beholding, to trust that He will, as the ancient psalm pleads, create clean hearts within us and renew the withered soil of our spirits.
Very much enjoyed this - and I don’t usually read poetry. It was simple, beautiful, and thought-provoking. Not all the theology was sound but that’s to be expected I think, and it was rare!
A book full of beautiful poems 🤍 Here’s a few of my favorite lines: “God, You are my melody, the song that fills my lungs.” “For You are the God who made me in His image, and I am most myself when I look like You.” “Let my hands reflect Your heart, and may my smallest acts become windows through which Your loveliness shines.” “Even now, You remain the quiet constant, the home my heart was made for.” 🤍
SUCH a rogue choice for me. I came across this on Instagram, of all places. Never heard of the author. No endorsements. No church affiliation. Self-published! But the snippets of poem-prayers I'd seen had moved me - so I took a punt.
I confess to reading this tentatively at first, on the look-out for theological fluff. Instead, it startled my heart. Each prayer is based on a description of God or aspect of his character. They are very beautiful. I found them personal and biblical, somehow both fresh and familiar. A couple of cliché entries are more than counterbalanced by surprising turns of phrase, soul-searching perspectives. It's amateur - but that's sort of the point. The poems are pleasingly down-to-earth, private, individual. They might make you want to write your own.
This was exactly what I needed to read in my current season of life. Each poem is written as a prayer to God. It was a gentle, beautiful reminder to rest in Him, to shift my gaze on my Savior in this busy and often draining time of year.
