The Hunter’s pursuit of revenge pits his blades and wits against an army of professional killers-for-hire.
The bastards never stood a chance.

Groebus Dayblood has sought refuge in the Princelands with the Scarlet Ghosts, an organization of assassins that offers no mercy and accepts no failure. Both the traitorous priest and his cutthroat protectors are about to find out the hard, painful way that no one is safe from the Hunter’s wrath.
But when the Hunter’s mission is violently derailed by a massacre, he has no choice but to shift tactics and join forces with old enemies—enemies who’ve got a grudge to settle and good cause to want him dead.
Amid uncertain alliances and treacherous double-dealings, all of the Hunter’s legendary skill, instincts, and inhuman resilience will be needed to see the bloody price of vengeance paid in full by the wicked.

Let the ravaging storm of steel and righteous fury be unleashed!

I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist--words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I'm also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle--it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!

This was a fun one! It's been quite a ride following the Hunter over the last 10 books. Now his human side is really showing through and he shows his feelings quite well. This one gave him a never ending saga of trials and tribulations that had me in tears when th going got really hard with his friends. Looking forward to the next one.

This isn't the last installment of the series is it? Does anyone know how many books there will be in the completed series yet?

Dear heavens do I ADORE the Hunter! And if you've read any of my previous reviews of said Hunter, it won't come as a surprise to you! But good golly, THIS softer, gentler, more emotional Hunter is undoing me, cell by cell. At this rate, the author, Mr Peloquin himself, might be liable for "killing by words".... because, good glory is his prose powerful! Good glory does his prose sink into every iota of me... yeah..."Killing me softly with his words" much like the Rorbera Flack song. He's bored a hole right through my heart, with this sharp instrument, which only more of the Hunter can heal. The Hunter is still a tortured soul, not because of what he can't remember, but because of what he can...and he can do nothing about it yet. It was like someone was doing acupuncture directly into my heart, those needles pierced long, those needles pierced hard...see? Killing me softly... and all because of Jaia.

Jaia who doesn't know who she actually is, Jaia who, thankfully, no longer looks at the Hunter with disdain or contempt, but far from looking at his as a friend. Jaia feels as protective of Emmeline and Inez as the Hunter feels about Hailen and Evren. After the tragic events in the previous book, she needs to safeguard them, she needs to help them make a new life, she needs to show them strength and love and acceptance. I do so enjoy her character, strong and stubborn, resolute, determined and a heart of gold. I was as gobsmacked as she when she uttered these words "for all that you are the Hunter, the legend of Voramis, slayer of monsters, terror of the high seas, there are still things about you that are wonderfully normal. You love. You hunger. You tire."

The Hunter is determined to find the Order of Mithridas, to discover how the Scarlet Ghosts fit into the equation, and his methods...well.. a bit unorthodox to say the least! This version of the Hunter is not killing everyone in his path, this Hunter is a more... companionate Hunter. Don't get me wrong, his body count is still mighty impressive but they're more "chosen" than "forced". On his quest to get to the bottom of these mysteries, the Hunter uncovers so much more, conspiracy is rife, and a "simple" request to serve "justice" for information, reveals his mortal enemy is afoot. Golly do I get a thrill at the way this author spins his tale! It's blindingly coruscating, dazzling, I feel as though I need heavy duty sunglasses!

Mr Peloquin's world building is vibrant, vivid. What an immersive, convoluted and intricate plot we get! And glory be, are the fight scenes realistic! Gory...but oh so real, I barely stopped myself from ducking and diving. OH! MY! WORD! HOW does Andy keep the excitement up??? HOW does he keep me from blinking??? HOW does he keep me from not being able to put the book down??? Yet somehow he does, he ups the tension, he revs up the ante, he has my heart rate galloping like a runaway horse! Foul means or genius? Well... seeing as Andy Peloquin is NOT a demon (I think!!!!) it must be genius! As this is the 10th book in this series (may they continue!) "getting better" sounds rather banal.

The Hunter might not be alone anymore, he might not be the despairing person he was initially, yet he still gets my heart to compress on itself. Even new characters Mr Peloquin introduces are alive and kicking, well, while the Hunter allows them to breathe... like Dork who's pragmatism is believable, like Duke Aravon, who the Hunter forms an unlikely alliance with. Most staggeringly astonishing, the growth in the Hunter is...oy... exponentially mindboggling, he even said heeds long spoken truths and tentatively extends a hand of trust. I almost wanted to cry at his vulnerability, so poignant, so beautiful, so human! What I adore, besides the Hunter of course, is that each book tells a complete story. While the Hunter's task remains consistent, different players, different "foes", either face off against the Hunter or join forces to eliminate a common threat.

You wanna talk characters? Dear lordie THESE characters are seeped in some magical elixer because, shoot, how else could I be attached to every single one? Following their progression through the series, I love them more, need them more, understand them more. The appearance of characters from previous books, such as Celestia, positioned flawlessly, however brief, always delights. And I loved loved LOVED Belthar, Skathi, Colborn and company, they added a flavour of family, genuiness and, at first, a begrudging acceptance of the Hunter which turned into admiration, on all parties. But my favourite is Lady Mylena, awesomeness in a dress! What a gal! There are no skeletal characters in any of Andy's books, they aren't only fully fleshed, they're decked out in muscles! And the fox....oooo....the fox, so flipping intriguing! Geesh, the surprises the author hoists in both the Hunter's and my direction, floored us both every time! But THAT ending??? No, no, no, no, no! What a way to end! What a way to get me to plead MORE! NOW! PLEASE!

The hunter is back and he is travelling to Icespire in the Princelands in Fehl, with his daughter Jaia and the orphaned children she is looking out for. He is in pursuit of the evil priest the hunchback Groebus Dayblood, and the assassin group known as the Scarlet Ghosts, also hoping to gain more information on the Order of Mithridas. However once he arrives there he is forced to witness a massacre and also forced to ally with a group he had known previously known as the Grim Reavers, and who hated his guts. However working together was the only way to save the Princelands from dangers even they had no idea they would face. The hunter had been away from home for a long time, he was missing Kiara, Evren and Hailen, however he knew he had to safeguard Jaia and where she went he followed. I love that the assassin and Bacelerai who had been so blood thirsty in Voramis has become such a caring 'father', shows compassion nowadays were necessary, and is turning into the real hero he should be acclaimed to be. He has always been my favourite assassin character but seeing this soft side to him, turning the demonspawn into a more humane being is a joy to see taking place. I love the bond of mutual respect the hunter and the grim reavers formed in the end. I look forward to book 11 which probably will be another tome, as I cannot get enough of the Hunters adventures across Einan and now also in Fehl.

I wonder, sometimes, what the first book Hunter would thing of this 10th book Hunter. And then I realize it doesn't matter because I think both of them are AWESOME

The Hunter's quest continues and Jaia is along. YAY!

The pacing, as with all I've read by Author Peloquin is masterful and the fight scenes are clear and vibrant. The characters bring me back to the series as each is so alive. Lines uttered by one really don't fit well in the mouths of others.

But that ending... why? Must Keep Reading - More, please.

What!? This is just so intense...Hunter..

Wow this was just amazing story. But even though it is wonderfully long, you just get lost in all that is happening. So many things to follow and to remember. And then there's a twist to the story line! Didn't see that coming. Also keep the tissues handy. And come on the end!

Omg, what earth do I say about this one then. I keep on extolling the virtues of this writer on numerous occasions but this one had it all. The Hunter doing what he does best plus an emotional side surely not, he can’t have can he. Highly recommended.
