In a world where love feels like a dangerous game, one woman must face her fears and a past that haunts her. Get ready to be swept away by a story of forgiveness, vulnerability, and the power of love in Every Silent Lie.
Camryn Moore doesn’t do December. Not the parties. Not the memories. Not the pain. She buries herself in boardrooms by day and dirty martinis by night, trading connection for control. As a high-powered CFO, she’s unshakeable. Untouchable. But behind the sharp suits and sharper tongue is a woman slowly unravelling.
Then she meets him. A stranger. A spark. A moment that should’ve meant nothing somehow changes everything.
Dec is charming, handsome, reserved, and maddeningly perceptive. He seems to see every crack Camryn hides. But Dec isn’t just a man nursing his own ghosts. He’s hiding truths that could destroy whatever fragile trust is beginning to form between them.
In a season she’s always hated, Camryn might have to face the past she’s buried, the love she thought she’d never have, and the man who might just ruin her.
#1 New York Times & Sunday Times Bestselling Author Jodi Ellen Malpas was born and raised in England, where she lives with her husband, her boys, and Theo the Doberman.
Writing powerful love stories with fierce, memorable characters is her passion – a passion that has taken her on an amazing journey into the world of romantic fiction. Her work is now published in more than twenty-six languages across the world.
I had such high hopes for this one, but unfortunately it fell short.
The main character was so relatable at first. However, the story then fell completely flat for me. I felt absolutely no chemistry between the characters when usually this author has the sparks flying off the page.
I did enjoy some parts here and there, but overall just felt very dull.
When I told Jodi that I feel like I will need tissues for this book, she said "maybe".
Let me tell you something...
THERE'S NO MAYBE! You WILL NEED tissues. Lots of them.
I'm blown away, writing this right after finishing the book. I don't even know what to write or how to write this.
Camryn and Dec have insane chemistry that comes from the bone-deep connection. They see something in each other, like the other one can give them what they have been missing in the life.
Camryn has been through a lot. I don't want to go into details but at times, as I read her story unfold, I was wondering how she kept going on. She very quickly became a favorite character for me.
And then there is Dec who was just so wonderfully him. He was there to catch her, to give her the love she needed and for that, he got himself a spot as one of my favorite JEM alphas.
Let me tell you though, this book did not feel like a typical JEM book and Dec is not your typical alpha. And I mean that in the best way possible!
I feel wrecked, torn apart and put together by this story. It kept me up at 3am, sobbing my heart out because that's how much I felt connected to the characters. So yes, it's that kind of story.
Okay, that's it for my random word ramble, I really am writing this without futher thought right after finishing the book, cause I needed to get it off my chest.
Camryn is 37 and she's living alone in a sad apartment in London. All she does is work all day even all weekend long and go jogging in the mornings. She has to keep busy with work - she can't think about things. Her past. Her mom in the nursing home. Her almost ex-husband. Too much. She doesn't have friends and everyone in the office is afraid of her. The only 'fun thing' she allows herself is to go into hotel bars at night for a Martini and a one-night stand. And one December night there is Dec. He's different and not a one-night stand. He's not even a kiss at first. He's turning her whole life upside down a bit. Suddenly she catches herself smiling at work and joining the office holiday festivities. Well. Not really - just a tiny bit. But still. Can she be happy again? Is this something that's allowed? Is it even possible for her to be happy again?
══════════════════
Phew.
That was so sad. The whole book was saddish. But especially the beginning. You don't really cry or anything (during the first part of the book) - it's just such a sad and somber and melancholic atmosphere. It should all be happy and festive and glittery - the book takes place in the month of December - every chapter is a new December day. So it should be christmassy and happy and hopeful - and it is - all around Camryn. But she's the exact opposite, she just can't take part in any of it. She doesn't do Christmas anymore. We don't yet know why and what happened to make her the way she is now. But we know it won't have been a very happy moment in her life.
I loved this. I wasn't sure about things during the first chapters. It was all so hopeless and grey and Camryn is just so unfriendly and sad and we're not sure if we like her. But we do. We get to know about her and what happened to her and we understand her. And we feel for her and we want her to be happy again. And then Dec comes into the picture and he's not really a ray of sunshine either. But for Camryn he is. He is giving her hope to get out of this life that she just existed in. I just loved their moments. So sweet and sad and heartbreaking and just beautiful and full of hope. We also get some fun and adorable moments. It's not all sad and dark! I adored Mr. Percival! Such a great guy. And Albi. Ugh. Jeez. I just loved this so much and the not-crying from the beginning? It starts somewhere in the story and it basically never stops! This would make an amazing Christmas Drama Love Story to watch on TV one day!
EVERY SILENT LIE was such a beautiful love story. Heartbreaking. Sad. Emotional. Christmassy. Londony. Snowy. Full of love and hope and so much more... Read it!

Jodi , this one is truly special, I say it often, you blow me away with your words and imagination but Dec and Cam? Wow!
Every time I read a Jodi Ellen Malpas novel, I’m reminded why she’s such a standout in romance, one of the very best. She doesn’t just write love stories — we love them all but sometimes she writes emotional experiences. - Camryn is cold and detached, ruthless in business and a true workaholic — but away from paperwork and numbers, she’s silently broken, suffering in anguish. Dec and Cam are utterly unforgettable. Their chemistry is undeniable, their attraction magnetic — yet both are cautious, guarded, and full of unspoken emotion. The connection between them runs deep; These two speak loudest in silence. Two people who don’t need words to understand each other. Despite feeling undeserving of love, Cam finds comfort in Dec. He sees her pain and fragility, hearing her silent screams to be truly seen, he’s patient and caring . It’s in their quietest moments that they have their longest conversations and where we feel the power of the inevitable growing love. But as their connection deepens, Cam fears the vulnerability it demands. Just what is the cause of such heartache and pain?
I can see this being a hard read for some in more ways than one but it’s healing, a beautiful pain and story filled with hope, This is one of those stories where you think you know where it’s heading, but you don’t. Jodi expertly builds tension and anticipation — that anxious flutter in your chest, waiting for something to go wrong and the demands of the identity of Cams hurt, when it does, it’s utterly devastating yet beautifully handled. Going in blind is the best way to experience it. Every twist and reveal hits harder that way, making the emotional unraveling all the more powerful.
I finished this book lying in bed, tears streaming down my face — yet smiling. It’s bittersweet in the best way. So much hurt and pain, but just as much love and hope. It’s a rare , raw, passionate and magnificent story that feels real , deep and meaningful and will stay imprinted on my heart forever. Every Silent Lie is beautifully written capturing both the ache and the healing power of love. - A truly unforgettable, heartbreaking masterpiece.
If you are looking for a Christmas romance that is going to put you through the emotional wringer, rip your heart out and put it back together, and have you contemplating how you can ever forget this story, then this book is for you.
Every Silent Lie was a beautiful, heart breaking masterpiece of how to move on when your world has fallen apart, opening yourself up to love and connection, and most importantly finding the will to live again.
Camryn Moore doesn’t do December. She wants no part of the parties, the decorations, or the memories. To avoid the pain she buries herself in work. Though she’s a high-powered CFO at work, underneath her sharp suits is a woman who is slowly unraveling.
Everything changes when she meets him. The spark and connection they shared was unexpected. A chance meeting that should have meant nothing, suddenly means everything.
The charming and handsome Dec Ellis sees Camryn in a way no one else does Somehow he is able to notice every crack and broken piece of Camryn.
Both Dec and Camryn have ghosts and secrets that could destroy any trust built between them.
I absolutely loved this book. The audio narration was incredible. The narrators captured the personalities, heartbreak, vulnerability and connection between these characters in an incredibly impactful way. I could feel my heart breaking as if I was Camryn, struggling to hold on when she feels there is nothing left to live for.
I absolutely adored Dec. He is a one in a million find. The way he’s so incredibly patient and gentle with Camryn had me absolutely swooning and crying for her. He was the perfect match for her. He just wanted to love her and wanted to teach her how to let him.
There story was complicated and was full of heartache as Camryn faced her past she’s tries to bury and avoid.
This was a beautiful story about bonds that can form in unlikely places, love, connection and how Christmas can bring people together.
This book hit me hard but I loved every second of it. The unlikely connections, the healing, and the characters ability to create a safe place to be vulnerable and broken without fear or judgement.
Thank you so much to Jodi Ellen Malpas and Valentine PR for the opportunity to recieve an alc in exchange for an honest review.
FIRST OF ALL… Jodi is an absolute queen. There is nothing she can’t do. Every book absolutely blows me away and this was no exception. Camryn is so dang strong! I don’t know how she did it all, wow! And Dec… 🥰 oh, Dec. We love him, okay?! I’ll take zero criticism for that man. He flips Camryn’s world upside down and I was here for it and all their chemistry filled glory! And the tears!!!! Wow, I wasn’t expecting to lose it 🤣
WOW! This book left me with a serious book hangover. 😭
I’m a little lost for words after reading this book, but here’s a few… Heartbreaking Heartwarming Emotional Uplifting Tragic Funny Sad Hopeful Beautiful
Yup, get the tissues ready, Every Secret Lie has ALL THE FEELS 🥹 This is so much more than a Christmas read. The fact it’s written throughout the month of December which makes it more emotional, in my opinion. The chapter headings start on December 1st, through to December 25th, which I really liked. Very original.
You will feel every emotion throughout reading Every Silent Lie. It kicks off with a somber feel to it. I read the first 30% ish, with an heavy heart. 🥺
Camyrn, is not living, just existing. Not thriving, just unraveling. Numb to the world around her. You more or less, straight away get the feeling Cam has suffered huge losses in her past. The struggle to get through December, a month she hates, only makes it more poignant. She try’s to escape her never ending sadness and dark thoughts by distracting herself with long working hours, and by divulging in a dirty martini or five at night, with the odd one night stand thrown in. Never really feeling anything for any of them, until Dec…
Dec comes across Cam in the bar one evening. From the moment he see’s Cam, he REALLY see’s her, all of the sadness and darkness she carries like a blanket. Dec has an air of mystery surrounding him, he piqued my interest instantly. He’s very confident, and attentive, especially with Cam. But he doesn’t push her any faster than she’s willing to go, he takes baby steps with her. Cam soon realises Dec is the perfect distraction. Very slowly her bricks start to crumble away and she slowly begins to open up to Dec …could he be her cure, could he be the one to bring her back to life?
Don’t worry, in true JEM style there is plenty of light banter and funny moments, too. The humour balances out the heavy storyline brilliantly. All I’ll say is, Camryn’s old neighbour is a hoot! There’s also another character that brings so many laughs, too.
That is all I’m saying regarding the plot, there are parts in this book I didn’t see coming and I don’t want to give anything away. This is a story you need to go through day by day, with Camyrn and Dec.
I love this author’s writing. I love that she can bring us hot, super alpha billionaires, that are a fantasy and great escapism for many of us. Then, she can knock a book out like this. 🥺 Where the emotional and heartbreaking subjects are relatable and real to many of us. In my opinion and experience, JEM nailed the emotions and actions this particular subject would provoke in many of us, perfectly. The attention to those emotions are executed exceptionally well and with tenderness, through JEM’s writing. 👌🏼👏🏼
Please don’t be put off reading this book because it’s an emotional one. You’ll be so glad you did by the end, your heart will be full. ❤️ It’s a story that stays with you long after you finish reading it.
Every Silent Lie by Jodi Ellen Malpas 🎙️ Performed in duet by Zara Hampton-Brown, Shane East & Christopher Tester 🎛️ Produced by East House Productions ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – 10/10 Perfection
Did I just finish this book or did this book finish me? Because Every Silent Lie completely gutted me — and I loved every minute of it.
Every Silent Lie is signature Jodi Ellen Malpas perfection—raw, emotional, and deeply human. No one writes heartbreak and healing the way she does. Aside from gutting you like a fish, this story is one of healing, and reminded me why she’ll always be one of my forever authors.
Camryn Moore isn’t your typical heroine. She’s the woman who’s been holding it together for too long—CFO by day, lonely soul by night, drowning her sadness in dirty martinis while pretending she’s fine. She hates Christmas, avoids connection, and hides behind control. Then there’s Dec Ellis: calm, measured, British, and heartbreakingly decent. Dec isn’t your usual Jodi Ellen Malpas alpha — he’s the greenest of green flags, a mix of strength, sensitivity, and mystery—the man who doesn’t need to raise his voice to make you listen and reminded me so much of Luke Williamson (If you've read "For You" you'll know.)
Their attraction is instant, and their connection builds slow and cautious at first, but there’s this steady undercurrent of heat and hope that builds until it consumes you. Jodi doesn’t rush it—she lets you feel every moment of hesitation, fear, trust, and longing. There’s mystery and pain, but also this profound sense of healing that makes the journey worth every tear.
The “silent lies” of the title hit hard. It’s about the truths we keep to protect others, the pain we swallow to stay strong. Anyone who’s lived through grief or heartbreak will see themselves in these characters.
And then there’s the audiobook, which is on another level entirely. Zara Hampton-Brown delivers a performance so raw it’s like she bled emotion into the mic. Shane East brings Dec to life with that calm command only he can deliver—steady, sincere, utterly swoony. Christopher Tester is a revelation; his versatility turns every side character into someone real. Together, they make this feel like a high-end drama for your ears.
This is not a fluffy Christmas romance— it’s a story about broken people learning to breathe again. It’s beautiful, painful, hopeful, and completely unforgettable. There are moments of darkness, but Jodi balances them with warmth and humour. You’ll laugh, cry, and reflect. You’ll question whether they’ll make it, but when they do — it’s everything.
This isn’t just a story; it’s an experience. One that leaves you changed. I’ll be returning to it every Christmas—not just because it’s festive, but because it’s special.
OMG!!! Where do I start with this review. It's taken me a few days to write this, as I was lost for words. I've said this before but I have to say this is the best book I've read this year. Its a fantastic book. It's heartbreaking its full of secrets and when they are revealed it knocked the wind out of me.
I sobbed reading Camryn and Dec's story. I smiled a lot too but its left a mark on my heart and hit home in many ways. I can not, and will not speak about the plot of book or provide any spoilers. Please don't look for them and go in with a clear mind and an open heart.
As I said above, this is a fantastic story and I really can't recommend it anymore. What a special book. Bravo JEM.
Well, this one is going to break your heart and then put it back together, scars and all.
This new story from Ms. Malpas is going to give you all the feels.
This is the story of Camyrn and Dec.
Camyrn has faced many stumbling blocks in her life, some of them life-altering. She is surviving, but she has stopped living. This is what she feels is her lot in life, and that is what she is doing. Just surviving.
Dec quietly comes into her world and starts to reshape it, giving it color and meaning. But with every silent lie it shakes the foundation of their new relationship.
This is a story you won't want to put down once you start. It's full of surprises and what I like to think of as divine intervention. I was truly invested in this story until the very end.
🪶Second Chance 🪶Tortured Heroine 🪶Mysterious British Man 🪶Emotional Healing 🪶Guarded Hearts
Camryn and Dec stole my heart from the moment they first met. Dec's mysterious and cool personality was so appealing, and reading about Camryn, a workaholic who was wounded and hoping to heal but looked at life with hatred, made me very sad. The way Camryn and Dec were drawn to each other so intensely they couldn't breathe around one another>>>
“You’re very handsome.” “You’re very beautiful.”
I'm a mess. No one truly wants a mess.
I'm hollow. A broken, empty
“Don't go," "And why do you want me to stay?" "Because I like you."
“Your eyes…They speak to me more than you probably want them to." “And what do they say?" “They're telling me you're wildly attracted to me,"
He suits me. My stranger
"Are you that numb you haven't felt it yet?" “No.Because I don't feel numb around you."
so desperately wanted to be that close to him. Taste him. Feel him.
I don't fuck for the sake of fucking, Camryn. And I don't kiss for the sake of kissing. I want that to be clear. The ball is in your court. Dec.
Colour and light. Because of him.
Dec is warmth. He steals my breath. He throws light on my shade.
"I'm so tired of hating the world," “I want to make you love it again."
“Do you trust yourself?” “No. But I trust you.”
“You don’t get to hide from me, Camryn.”
I love him because he didn't give up on me, which means he's found me. But most of all, I love him because he's so fucking incredible and has shown me that I am capable of loving again. But only if it's him.
“Can you breathe when we're close? Because I can’t.” "I haven't been able to breathe properly since I met you.And it's for the best reasons."
It’s safe to say that I have read a lot of books since I started reading again in 2012. Different authors, different genres, some are remarkable and some…not so much. Stories that stay with you for a few days and you go on with your life and you move on to the next book. Then there’s Jodi Ellen Malpas. Since she was introduced to me by my book friend in 2016, I have been addicted to the books she’d written. Her storytelling is unique, relatable, believable scenarios and characters and plots that just hits you differently. The Silent Lie hits my top reads in 2025. Damn you, Jodi for making me cry at work! I cannot tell you how many times I stopped reading to take a breather. This book is packed with all the emotions. An unforgettable twists and turns of fate, heartbreaking and soul crushing moments. I started questioning how much further can the main character go on with her situation. Because grieving has different impact on us and sometimes, coping doesn’t come easy. I was an emotional wreck as I turn the pages. Jodi will make you laugh, cry , mad and everything in between. (Did I mention hot??) The Silent Lie is the story that you don’t think you want to read but you need to read. And if you listen to audible, all the praises to the narrators! They did an amazing job portraying the characters especially the woman who portrayed Camryn. She’s awesome and of course, Shane East is a given. 🔥 All in all, this was an excellent read. I’m giving this five stars! Jodi is definitely THE QUEEN of Storytelling! 🩶🩶🩶 Bring your snacks with you but don’t forget the tissues! Specially the tissues.
4.5★ Jodi has a rare gift for crafting stories that touches the soul. Every Silent Lie is a raw, beautiful exploration of grief, healing and learning to find the good in darkness when life tests you to your core.
Camryn is a high-powered CFO. Beneath her professional veneer is a woman drowning in anguish. For anyone who has faced the unimaginable pain of losing a child, Camryn’s struggle is devastatingly real. She isn't living; she is surviving. Her days are buried in spreadsheets and her nights in the oblivion of dirty martinis, desperate distractions from the gaping hole in her world. Her resilience, the sheer grit it takes to show up every day, is both heartbreaking and inspiring.
Her fragile existence shatters when she meets Dec at the bar. The spark is instant and consuming, but it's the depth of their connection that defines this story. Dec is handsome, but more importantly, he is protective, caring and impossibly observant. He’s a man of few words, yet every sentence he utters manages to melt the heart and offer warmth. While Camryn tries desperately to wall off her secrets and her sorrow, Dec recognises her pain without judgment.
Their connection moves beyond chemistry; it’s bone-deep. A look and they know what the other is thinking or feeling. Yet, Dec carries his own shadows, truths that threaten to destroy the trust Camryn is finally building. As the particularly challenging Christmas season approaches, forcing Camryn to face her past and the love she so desperately desires, the tension becomes unbearable.
The growing friendship with Mr. Percival, and the absolute light that is Albi made the story even more enjoyable. Albi’s presence showcases the incredible, grounding love Dec holds as a father.
The final chapters wrecked me. But in true Jodi fashion, she tears your heart apart only to piece it back together, better and stronger than before. Every Silent Lie is a reminder that even when you feel most shattered, love and healing are possible.
Every Silent Lie is Jodi Ellen Malpas at her absolute finest—dark, twisty, addictive, and emotionally intense from the very first chapter. This is one of those stories that grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go.
Malpas blends suspense, romance, and psychological tension so seamlessly that you’re constantly questioning who to trust, what’s real, and how everything will unravel. The characters are layered and flawed in the most captivating way, each carrying secrets that weigh heavily on the story. Their chemistry is powerful, but it’s the emotional depth beneath that attraction that truly hits hard.
What stands out most is the atmosphere—moody, mysterious, and dripping with tension. Malpas keeps the stakes high and the twists steady, delivering a story full of obsession, vulnerability, and the haunting impact of silence and secrets.
If you love: 🔪 Romantic suspense with real emotional weight 🔥 Intense, electric chemistry 🖤 Dark themes and psychological depth 😮 Twists that actually surprise you
…this book will be your next obsession.
Final thoughts: A gripping, spine-tingling suspense romance that proves Jodi Ellen Malpas can write tension—both emotional and romantic—like no one else. This one stays with you.
This book absolutely wrecked me in the best way. Camryn was broken, isolated, and just surviving, while Dec quietly entered her life and became her anchor. Their connection was deep, magnetic, and full of unspoken emotion. I cried, smiled, and felt every beat. The story was raw, gut wrenching, yet ultimately healing. Jodi Ellen Malpas captured every subtle glance, every silent conversation, and every painful moment of grief with such precision, I cried, smiled, and felt every beat. Thank you so much to the author and Valentine PR for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.
Workaholic Camryn hates December and with good reason. Every day brings further heartache and loneliness and grief. But every day also brings hope.
Jodi has written another emotional read, perfect for Christmas. It’s not lighthearted Christmas fluff, but rather the reality for a lot of people. But as all my fellow Liverpool fans know, you’ll never walk alone.
A story that will grab you by the throat, the heart, and touch your soul.
An audiobook that is much more than simply narratives by 3 outstanding narrators. The duet narration format tells this story exactly as it should be told. It’s mesmerizing on every level.
Shane East as the mysterious Dec will melt you into a puddle. Of course us JEM audiobook fans have heard this man’s brilliant narratives before but I’m telling you THIS character, THIS JEM alpha hits a bit different. Again, the duet narrative for this story is brilliant.
And Zara Hampton Brown will quite simply break you as the tortured heroine, Camryn. So, buckle up. No spoilers. Just a recommendation to grab a glass of wine or a coffee/tea and immerse yourself in her incredible performance.
Christopher Tester rounds out the cast and is spot on with some other fascinating voices because we know JEM writes the best secondary characters.
Secrets. Silence. Really Seeing Someone. Heartbreak. Healing. A December romance you won’t soon forget.
Reading and listening to this story is an unforgettable immersive experience. Do it. You won’t be sorry. But hold onto your heart. JEM is going to make you feel EVERYTHING with this one.
This book was like drinking a hot toddy by the fireplace on a cold snowy night It’s so good !
It’s December in London England and Camryn is avoiding her co workers and basically her life. She has had it hard recently and would rather drink dirty martinis after work in a luxury hotel bar than socialize with coworkers or being at home alone One night at the bar she meets a man who strikes up a brief conversation with her and for the first time in a long time she is smitten Dec is a confident and very successful man who was written with all heart and soul he is the perfect antidote to Camryn He understands her needs even before she does and takes his time to get to know her and get to know what’s troubling her
This story timeline is set in December with lots of snow and holiday vibe Great side character in a 99 year old neighbor named Mr Percival who’s wisdom will make you laugh and maybe have you reach out to an elderly relative
“And I love you bone f*cking deep, woman. Every broken, beautiful piece of you.”
Every Silent Lie is a love story filled with deep loss, finding one’s way through debilitating grief and navigating a new love that brings hope and new beginnings.
Set in 3 1/2 weeks in December, Every Silent Lie will have you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. For half of the book, we don’t know the tragedy Camryn suffered but her struggle is slowly revealing and we get a glimpse that it’s devastating. This book is from her POV only and even she’s an enigma. So, when Dec comes into her life, he’s a mystery and quickly becoming her lifeline from drowning in her grief. Dec is the perfect distraction but she’s quickly finding that he’s becoming a necessity. He’s something to focus on as the Christmas holiday is a reminder of what she lost. But we know nothing about him. They haven’t even kissed yet and he’s become her savior.
Camryn fights an inner struggle of wanting to hide and disappear and yet desperately wanting to be seen. Her mother has dementia, and at a time when she needs a lifeline it sinks the loneliness knife even her deeper. But Dec really sees her. Wanting to take her pain away and yet he, holds his own secrets. Her elderly charming neighbor, Mr. Perceval, weaves his magic and subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) burrows his way into her life. His sweetness and protective nature have gotten under her skin. And I love seeing how Camryn softens overtime to him. She’s gradually opening her heart up and it's a sweet beautiful thing.
“I was so f*cking lonely, Camryn. I know it’s terrifying, but I want you to stay. I need you to stay. Please stay. For me.”
I did think that Dec had plenty of time to tell her about his son before he realized her backstory. They spent enough time together before she mentioned her story. I do appreciate that the author didn’t use the “misunderstandings” trap to break up the characters. Facts were withheld from each other but with mature conversation they were handled and Dec and Camryn’s relationship grew stronger. Misunderstandings and silent lies were quickly resolved.
Dec and Camryn. Both shrouded in mystery. A tragic past, secrets withheld. Questionable business dealings. Nosy neighbors. And a found family scenario that will have you crying with emotion and grinning with joy at the same time. Add in a precocious and charming 4-year-old, Albi, and this romance had its hooks in me.
Jodi does it again with a heart-wrenching story about a woman on the edge of divorce and the emotional chaos that comes with trying to move forward—in life, in love, and in herself.
She has this innate ability to write broken characters who feel so real that you can’t help but walk beside them through every raw, painful, hopeful step.
Camryn, the FMC, is torn and hurting—numbing herself at night with a drink just to sleep—and then she meets Dec, the MMC, who pulls her into a web of desire, second chances, and the terrifying possibility of loving again.
As their secrets start to unravel, you realize this isn’t just about heartbreak—it’s about what we believe in after everything falls apart, and the quiet hope to reclaim our hearts and our peace.
Ever since reading Jodi’s This Man series, I’ve been hooked on her stories. She writes with so much depth that every book feels like an emotional reckoning—and Every Silent Lie is no exception. Thank you to Jodi and ValentinePR for the ARC!
A story of heartbreak, loss and vices to cope with both. This was an interesting story, my complaint was it was much longer than it needed to be & in real life, no one would stay with this many secrets.
The FMC is a midlife woman, trying to survive a pending divorce and is just existing through life. The MMC is a man with a lot of secrets. They have a chemistry that is very tense with angst. It’s one of those stories you want them to be everything for each other and obstacles just keep arising. It is through the holidays so this is a great winter read. Check your triggers, the Ber months tend to be hard on people and this book may increase that, your mental health matters. I am not going to list the tropes, you need to go into this blind.
Narration: Zara Hampton Brown, Shane East & Christopher Tester
I enjoyed the audio and would recommend!

Non-Spoiler Audiobook Review 🎧 Every Silent Lie written by Jodi Ellen Malpas is a bittersweet romance with many ups and downs. Once again, the author gives us a beautiful, yet gritty and heartbreaking story of deceptiveness and salvation. Told in duet, Zara Hampton Brown, Shane East, and Chris Tester, were brilliant at performing all of the feelings within these characters. Zara and Shane captured every emotion of Camryn and Dec and delivered them with ease, while Chris voiced all the side characters, adding little bits of that British charm we all have grown to adore.
I’m going to do my best to keep this review as vague as possible to avoid spoilers. Imagine just existing in your life, with no real future or goals. Not that you can’t, you just mentally and emotionally have nothing left. You go to work, put in way more time and energy than necessary just to keep your mind busy, drink at local hotel bars, use a random man for the night, and then arrive home only to stare at unsigned divorce paperwork. On top of that, you have a sick mother that doesn’t recognize you and a sibling that doesn’t want to help emotionally. This is exactly how Camryn moves through life, that is, until she meets Dec at her favorite hotel bar. The chemistry they have is instantaneous and nearly physical, but soon Camryn realizes there are things he is hiding. Secrets are never a good thing in a newfound relationship and always cause angst. They are no different.
I admit, I struggled in the beginning with the FMC and her cold, callous disposition. The fact that she was always in her head with self-degradation and her gloomy outlook really irked me. She also self-sabotaged every relationship she had. I had to remember to keep an open mind and soon began to understand the reasoning behind it. I think the pacing of the story is what made me conflicted, because this is not a fast-moving storyline, however, to express all the emotions and feelings, it had to unfold that way. This was such a good book and audio. I enjoyed the character growth as well as the plot development. Each chapter being a new day in the month gave the storyline character. I have literally never said this before, this book absolutely wrecked me. This is a breathtakingly beautiful romance, but also a story of grief, loss, and healing. The characters are remarkable and the emotional damage is real. It’s December, Camryn’s most hated month of the year. Her life imploded three years ago and she’s been barely hanging on since. Camryn uses work and martinis as distractions. Instead of going home to an empty apartment, she goes to different hotel bars around the city. One evening she meets Dec, she immediately knows he’s different. He sees past the mask of indifference she shows the world. His quiet but strong presence gave her hope and helped her heal. She starts to see that it’s ok to be happy again. But things aren’t easy for them, Dec’s silent lies threaten their relationship. This was a surprisingly wonderful slow burn. It still delivers spice that is passionate with a quiet sizzle. This is a romance that needs to be experienced, but make sure you have tissues. Camryn’s feelings of loss and guilt are visceral and had me crying harder over a book than ever before.

A Few Favorite Quotes: “And he smiles. It’s like the sun breaking through a black, stormy cloud. And I think I fall in love with him on the spot.”
“Or do I let all of my demons pour out of me? Tell him the truth. Not that I’ve lied. At least, not vocally. More . . . silently.”
“I just want to get to know the woman I’m falling for before I take her to bed.”
“I am falling for him too. I want him to make love to me, not f* €k me. I want him to hug me, kiss me, talk to me, listen, give me those smiles on repeat. It’s lightened up my world, offered a reprieve in my tragedy-filled existence.”
“And I love you bone f* € k!ng deep, woman. Every broken, beautiful piece of you.”
Every Silent Lie is a devastatingly heartbreaking story about loss and hope. I’ve read many of JEM’s books, each one a favorite of mine, but this book is now an all-time favorite and her best book yet. It’s a masterpiece and a bit of a diversion from her normal writing, in that this one is going to pull your heart from beginning to end. I cried a lot and when I thought I was done, I cried again.
Camryn and Dec’s story will take you on a journey from the very first page. Camryn has lived through a lot of life changing events that have impacted her so much, you can feel her struggles throughout this entire book. You can also feel her strength to just keep pushing forward. She’s going through the motions when she meets Dec. immediately, these two are intrigued by each other and what ensures between them is nothing short of life changing. They immediately share a strong connection, each observant of the other’s struggles and silences. But you will find, they still hold their connection through the silences.
Sometimes when life has been exceptionally hard, we need someone in our path to hold us up, and that’s what Dec was for Camryn. Dec recognizes Camryn’s struggles and will stop at nothing to be her solid ground. As these two navigate their feelings, they will soon discover the secrets they hide and how that sometimes shakes the foundation built.
This review does not do this book justice. As a reader, you will need tissues as it explores themes of loss, love, attraction, despair, family, faith, hopelessness and most important of all hope. JEM does sprinkle in some humor which brought some much needed lightheartedness. I loved and adored this story. Sometimes all we need is someone to see under our layers and to love unconditionally to get us through life. This book gets a standing ovation!
