Twenty-four year old Kali Ness finds herself in a position of horror as she awakens in the trunk of a moving car.
Fearing for her life, she makes the bold move to fully cooperate with her abductor and willingly walk into the role of a victim—and into the home of a monster.
Upon entering her captive quarters she quickly realizes that something more sinister than a random kidnapping has transpired. This space her abductor designed prior to her arrival has been preset as a mirror image of her own home bedroom. Her abductor had been there—quietly watching from the shadows—plotting her abduction all along. Kali was targeted. Not only targeted—but stalked—hunted.
Kali is forced to learn the rules of survival against a person who knows her better than she knows herself.
Will she find the strength to dig deep within her personal demons and discover the tenacity to outwit this cleverly disturbed monster? Or will she become lost in the maze of psychological madness that accompanies months of isolation?
This was quite the page turner, I couldn't put it down. Disturbia is definitely not your typical romance. It's a dark, psychological thriller. There are a lot of heavy topics and gray areas covered in the book, so an open mind is needed going in. Both characters are amazingly complex and well written. Those that don't like to stray from standard romance stories should probably pass on this. Those that like to believe that love can come in many forms and can help heal scarred souls will probably enjoy this.
This is a romance, a totally different kind of romance that involves abducting, locking in isolation, and a disturbing infatuation down to the very core. This is literally mind-fucked with mental battles between the captive and her kidnapper. It is dark, it's full of dread, and characters development are just downright amazing.
There are outsider conflicts that provided greater challenge to the love between the two main characters. A little hint of Stockholm syndrome, but some further events proved it is not the case.
Cris was despicable at first, to be honest, I don't think I will ever forgive her action, but she deserves my sympathy. Kali on the other hand, wow, she's totally stuck in a pickle, I don't know how many times I have to feel sorry for her ludicrous situations, she is literally the victim in all of this- especially the cliffhanger ending, now I gotta go pick up book 2.
A few small quibbles, but I loved this book. I really had several other things I was supposed to be doing, but kept getting sucked back into the book. Story was excellent, characters involving and addicting. Well done! There were more twists and turns than a sidewinder in a mad rush. Where I was expecting the story to end up, it had reached that point and more by 50%.
The quibble? The editing could have been much better, you really shouldn't let spellchecker be your editor. Since the most glaring errors were all homonyms I suspect Voice software was involved. (wrap/rap, retched/wretched, pray/prey, etc...)
