Professor Koelpin's description on the back cover says it best, this book really is like a portable museum. Having read Fredrich's history of the Synod and slowly working my way through Koehler, this is a perfect entry point for just about anyone. There is something to learn here for the pastor, the layman, and the person who is simply curious about those Wisconsin Synod Lutherans. The book balances the big perspective of history, the key players, and the mundane but necessary and precious life of the layman in his devotion to Christ. Thank God for 175 years of WELS, and may God bless us in the future! I may have gripes and quibbles here or there, but the work is strong. I'd recommend this to just about anyone.

An excellent historical work that does not shy away from noting failures and challenges, while above all, emphasizing the grace of God that has guided the history of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) for 175+ years. A worthwhile read for any who might be interested.
