The Mother of All Secrets is blown wide open in this epic Medieval Romance set in the lush, family-driven world of de Wolfe Pack.
Secret identities, age-gap romance, and alpha males abound!
Twenty years ago, during the reign of Edward I, the last Welsh prince was sentenced to death. All that remained of his family was his six-month-old daughter with dual royal bloodlines, who was arrested and sent to live at Sempringham Priory. She was to become a nun, never to procreate, because prophesy dictated that should she ever marry and rise to power, she would bring about the collapse of England.
Gwenllian was the infant’s name.
But she never made it to the priory.
The English knight who took charge of her as an infant was a friend of Gwenllian’s father. William de Wolfe, Earl of Warenton, promised Llywelyn the Last that he would see his daughter safety hidden from the English king. No one knew of this but a select few, but many years later, a deathbed confession thrust the secret out into the open.
Now, the king’s men are looking for the infant once known as the Princess of Ghosts and Dragons, only she’s not an infant any longer. She’s a beautiful young woman from a fine Northern English family who has no idea of her true identity. Cambria de Royans, as she’s known, is about to marry Liam Herringthorpe, one of the knights who helped spirit her to safety. The pair are madly in love and looking forward to a life together. But Liam is also part of the de Wolfe family, the most powerful in Northern England, and when they realize Gwenllian’s secret is out, that puts the King of England on a directly collision course for the House of de Wolfe.
A cataclysmic clash is on the horizon as it’s de Wolfe versus the Crown of England in this sweeping Medieval saga.

Having never read any previous books from the world of of de Wolfe Pack, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily I was able to submerse myself into the story. It was not necessary for me to read any of the previous stories in order to understand what was going on. I WILL be going back and reading previous books because I LOVED this book. The writing was amazing and the author has such a talent for story telling. I devoured this book!
Wolfehound by Kathryn Le Veque is more than the continuation of a tradition, it is destined to be a classic, like The Wofe before it, with its classic characters William de Wolfe and his eventual wife, Jordan. Years earlier William had made the decision to work around the king’s order to have the infant daughter, of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the defeated Welsh king, sent to a convent to live out her life, instead substituting a peasant girl to fill that role and call the girl, Gwenllian. The child had not only royal Welsh blood, but English as well, as her mother had been the daughter of King John. William thought the best revenge on the man whose soldiers had killed his son, was for her to marry an Englishman and dilute his blood to nothing. Everything was fine for many years until a dying soldier, who had been part of the deception, decided to get this information off his chest and confessed to a priest who went straight to the Archbishop of Canterbury with his story. After much consideration, The Archbishop, not a fan of the king, decided to use his information to ingratiate himself to the man. Thus began the hunt. Turns out the young woman was betrothed to a grandson of William de Wolfe, and like his grandfather, allowed no one to hurt the ones he loved.
It was so good to see William and Paris and Kieran again. Even Jordan appeared in the present time, ninety years old, as she came to attend the wedding of her beloved William’s illegitimate grandson. William was not normally a vengeful man, but the loss of this son was a grief beyond bearing and he was looking for vengeance. Plus, the woman who was to adopt the baby had lost her son recently and she could not put the baby down. William’s heart saw and responded. As always, wonderful characters and a great story. I could not ask for more from the de Wolfe legacy. As a devout fan, I loved it.

There is a decided undercurrent that made me uncomfortable in this book, and that’s the moment when the book introduces 14 year old Cambria, and the book — and the author — describe her as being a woman who had “matured well,” with her own father thinking about her womanly figure and her full breasts. Again, she’s 14, but always referred to as a woman. And it’s gross.
You can go on and on about historical opinions, how women were treated and viewed as valuable,, breedable property as well as women, and sure, that was a point of view held back then. But referring to a 14 year old girl as a woman comes very close to crossing a line. Why did the author want me, the reader, to know Cambria had big boobs — at 14? Why did the author always refer to the 14 year old child as a woman? Don’t mistake historical accuracy and research in a fiction book as being as excuse for such behavior, because this is the year 2025 and the author has the ability and creative autonomy to use different words when describing a 14 year old child.
So, beyond that, there’s a very large cast of interconnected character — which, with this being the eleventh book in a series, makes sense. They’re introduced easily enough, though I will say it’s hard to tell anyone apart as they are all very much there to move the plot along rather than to be characters. The women are all saints and angels, somewhat infantailized, only wanting to be good wives and mothers.
Really, I didn’t enjoy the first half, and found it hard to care for the second. While the plot picks up and is decent enough — much like the writing, very smooth and easy to read — I am still uncomfortable with that one chapter and it soured my entire time with this book.
Personally, I don’t recommend it. But that’s just my opinion. Thank you very much to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC.
I love settling in to a new KLV book. Feels like visiting a favorite, familiar place, with dear friends and their families. This one takes us right into the heart of the de Wolfe family, encompassing three generations over a twenty-year span. It's a captivating book of political intrigue with a heartwarming romance on the side.
It's been said that two men can keep a secret if one of them is dead, but in this case there are nearly a dozen men who know the secret, and only one who feels the need to betray them. Thus starts the unraveling of the secret and the lives that depended on its being kept.
I thought I'd be put off by the age gap, but it's really only about 14 years, and a 34 year old MMC paired with a 20 year old FMC isn't that unusual at all, especially in historic romances. I especially loved Liam's first impression of Cambria - can't truly call it a meet cute, but it was an honest reaction and fit his character perfectly. Their romance isn't the centerpiece of the story, since they've been betrothed for nearly twenty years and have easily fallen in love with each other by the time the wedding is due.
This story focuses much more on the history of the families, of the battles between the Welsh and the English, and on the dire threat that our heroes are now facing. You know that family loyalty is strong here when several characters first say, "He would never..." but still risk everything to defend such an action once they learn the truth.
I was delightfully surprised to find that the main antagonist wasn't given the usual treatment. What the author chose to do instead opens up a whole wealth of opportunities and I hope to read more about that in a future book (or two).
This is a fine example of why I never turn down an opportunity to read a book by Ms. Le Veque. The pacing is terrific, the characters are real, and the story is, as always, addicting. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves medieval romances.
The Destiny of a Princess In this sweeping medieval romance, the fate of a princess is a game played by kings and powerful men. William de Wolfe, a legendary knight, once carried out a fateful act that changed the course of history. Tasked with taking the infant Princess Gwenllian to a priory after her father’s execution, he instead placed her in an English noble household, sending another in her place. What began as an act of vengeance and protection turned into a secret that would lie hidden for twenty years. Now grown and known as Cambria, she is about to marry the man she loves—Sir Liam Herringthorpe—when whispers of her true identity begin to surface. But secrets this great do not stay buried forever. When King Edward learns that the princess was not where she was meant to be, the lives of Cambria and Liam are thrown into turmoil. Can their love survive when kingdoms and crowns are at stake? This is a tale of secret identities, forbidden love, and the clash of loyalty and power. If you enjoy medieval romance brimming with intrigue, danger, and passion, this story is one you won’t want to miss.
Can I just say that I totally love any story by Ms. Kathryn Le Veque, no matter what it is! The tale harkens back to some of Ms. Le Veque’s older stories. The intrigue, the deception, the vengeance, a sigh-worthy romance and just fantastic story-telling that keeps you enthralled until the very end that you don’t want the story to end and when it does you just want to be a part of it. The story moves seamlessly, bringing some of Ms. Le Veque’s past heroes in other books along too, but is it necessary to read the others not really, but you just might want to just to read about their legends too. This book might be all fiction, but Gwenllian of Wales really, truly existed but maybe if Gwenllian had a different fate, then you can totally see this happening. Gwenllian, or rather, Cambria, is an amazing heroine and has a soft spot for dogs who don’t love that? While Liam is just a perfect book boyfriend that I couldn’t help but fall for him too. I even hope that Tyrus the villain will find love, especially when Jordan binds him to them. Even with her being elderly, you don’t want to mess with her. I do look forward to more of Ms. Le Veque’s stories, no matter what they are!
The prologue sets the tone for the suspense that runs through the plot, leaving one sitting on tenterhooks waiting for the proverbial axe to fall. In an act of defiance against the King, William de Wolfe seeks revenge for the death of his son, and the best way of doing so is to absorb the infant Gwenllian into an English family and arrange a marriage with an English knight, thereby diluting her Welsh blood. Known as Cambria, she grows up in idyllic circumstances, knowing that she is promised to Liam Herringthorpe in marriage, happily breeding her dogs for sale. From the time that Cambria leaves childhood behind, there is a spark between her and Liam, but before their union can be blessed, they are betrayed by one who took an oath to preserve her identity. The book, nevertheless, comes to a successful conclusion, with Cambria and Liam finally able to fulfil their vows. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Another terrific read of how the de Wolfe’s forged a path towards equal footing for all noble families among the English and Scottish borders. This was a lengthy story for me. I primarily was looking for the romance in the book that didn’t come until the last ending. I was treated though with the sweetest romantic flirtatious moments between Liam and Gwen/ Cam. Their story was the most comforting part. The intense part of the books were the adults. The bishops. The kings and or commanders were lunatics! I will admit that they made the book very interesting. The political sabotage. The loyalties from allies and the twisted backstabbing was amazing. I loved the information and or facts of the book that gives the readers a clearer perspective of history back then and what real people sacrificed and fought for. It’s crazy how one little banter can do so much. I give this book two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!
Another great medieval romance from our extremely talented author. I will literally read anything she writes. Even though we often meet characters from other books, the stories are all so very different. This one is a nice fat book which has many parts, covering twenty years. Plenty to get our teeth into, so grab drinks and snacks and turn your phone off. You are in for a book you will not be able to put down.
Our hero meets his heroine as a stinky baby he is escorting to her new home.
Little does he know what is to come.
The danger and battles in this story could shake the Kingdom if they go the wrong way. I loved meeting so many of our Wolfe pack, and a possible new character to add to a different series.
I was hooked from the first to last page. Fantastic as always.
The De Wolfe family has secrets that could tumble the throne. The band of men who conspire to determine an innocent’s future in a tangled bit of revenge could pay the ultimate price as traitors to their own king. And yet, grieving parents gain a daughter to cherish, a young squire’s future is set to yield a sterling legacy, and the stage is set for young love to shine. But, a deathbed revelation may shatter dreams and castles and real lives. I love the tangled webs KL weaves, her puzzles traced, and her beloved characters revealed, celebrated and honed. Thank you for another wonderful tale of these extraordinary knights and ladies, heroes and their villains. The DeWolfe pack continues to be great reading with some new twists even among old friends.
To say this story was full of action would be a gross understatement. I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next, some was good and some was not so good. The two main characters Cambria and Liam, I loved them from the first time I encountered them. Secrets have a way of being uncovered but Bria’s secret was bigger than most and was soon disclosed. There is a happy ending but a lot happens first. It was great to see individuals from previous books play a prominent role in this story. I especially loved Jordan and her interaction with Tyrus at the end was a surprise and an eye opener. I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.
Fate, Secrets, Thrilling Romance Wow, what a thrilling story from page one to the very happy ending. This story has every emotion one could possibly want in a fabulous love story that has such a secretive sneaky plot and very charismatic characters that captured my heart. This story deals with betrayals, secrets, subterfuge, lighthearted romance and an extremely terrifying ending. I truly enjoyed the long overdue reunion and catching up of so many of my favorite characters from this author previous stories that I have enjoyed for many years. 💖Favorite Character: Bran the giant dog that added so much enjoyment to the story.
Kathryn Le Veque’s boundless imagination grabs us again in another chapter of the de Wolfe family. As always there is no end to the adventures, secrets, battles, vengeance and complex family dynamics. And of course romance. This chapter includes a real life princess who did not find happiness in her real life so Ms. Le Veque is creating a fairy tale and happily ever after for our princess. This tale revolves around a deathbed confession revealing a secret so explosive it’ll change the destinies of the royal bloodlines of two countries. Sound intriguing? Hop aboard and join us on a ride through Ms. Le Veque’s medieval world. You won’t regret it.
Oh how I absolutely adore this author's works! Years ago I read my first ever story and I have been a fan ever since. So if you haven't read any of her work, start with William and Jordan. Then grab this book as William, Paris, Kieran and Jordan are back many years later. Much has happened in between those years yet this tale is the result of an action William took many years before that changed the lives of many. Fantastic, Fanominal, Fabulous, amazingly deep, great research woven in and a page turner from being to end.
As always I fell into the world created by Kathryn… and what a wonderful world she created!! You will feel the swish of the blade, the fear of the truth being found, the anxiety of being discovered all while crossing your fingers for a glorious possibility that in the end things might work out the way they were meant to when de Wolfe came up with a way to avenge the murder of one of his sons… Extraordinary tales from a prolific writer… ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Another great book from Kathryn I look forward to reading her books every time a new one is released. This time lots of old characters get a mention with the twist at the end will Tyrus get his redemption and his own story on the future I can't wait. Thanks to Netgalley and Dragonblade for my arc copy
