He was stillborn at birth. His mother cried from a broken heart. His father gave a sigh of relief. He was glad that there would not be another mouth to feed, or another soul to suffer a life of hard times. The midwife wrapped the baby in an old cloth. Then she said a prayer before she dropped the lifeless thing out of a window onto a dump heap in the alley. The sudden jolt caused the baby's small heart to begin beating. A tiny cry escaped its lips. The faithful midwife retrieved the boy child from the most disgraceful rubbish imaginable.
