Susannah Murphy never expected a stranger’s kindness to change the course of her life. Fresh off the train in Emerald Spring, she’s flustered when a tall, brooding rancher quietly steps in to pay for her supplies. She brushes it off—until she learns he’s Jasper Reed, the reclusive heir to the ranch her father now works for. And without ever speaking to her again… he’s just asked for her hand in marriage.
Jasper Reed has spent years hiding from the world—and from himself. Scarred by a past he won’t discuss and weary of his father’s pressures, he’s resisted every attempt to push him toward marriage. But one glimpse of Susannah—spirited, strong, and full of quiet grace—and he does something reckless. He asks her father for permission to wed her, convinced she might be the one person who could understand the man behind the silence.
Thrust into an engagement Jasper chose and Susannah never expected, they struggle to connect. His silence keeps her at a distance—until his scheming uncle arrives, intent on taking more than just his land. With trust in short supply, love may be their only way forward…
"Forced to Marry a Scarred Rancher" is a historical western romance novel of approximately 60,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Lorelei Brogan was born and raised in Idaho where she currently lives with her husband.
While sitting in her graduate school apartment, studying Rock science, Lorelei decided to set aside her notes and try her hand at romance.
At the same time, she used to write articles for a local newspaper under a pseudonym, and this made her wonder if she could write something besides news -- about something she really loved. At the age of 40 she managed to make her dream come true.
She has a great family and 4 sons that she adores. She is extremely proud of them, and so are they. They really admire her work, and support her in every step of her life. Her oldest son, who deeply loves her, says Lorelei’s novels make him travel to a different world.
In her spare time, she loves cooking and volunteering at her local elderly care home. She also adores traveling with her husband. Their dream is to travel all over the world, with Asia being at the top of her “bucket list”.
I truly enjoyed this story. Each character was wonderfully unique. Everything that Jasper and his father went through was heartbreaking, as well as the things that Susannah and her family had to go through to find a place that was truly theirs. This was a well written story with a wonderful storyline!
This was a wonderful book about two people, Susannah and Jasper. One hiding a terrifying secret and one trying to overcome prejudice. Jasper scarred by a fire and Susannah of Irish heritage. They meet when her father is hired to work on Jasper's ranch. Love at first sight causes him to seek her hand in marriage. There are hardships they go through and an evil Uncle shows up to create havoc. They overcome the odds and finally get their happily ever after. I recommend this book because it's really good. Thank you Lorelei Brogan for a wonderful book.
Dnf @47% the story is so boring and the main characters are so dull. All they do is cry out In exclamation, silently contemplate the exact opposite of the situation and talk over and over about the same thing. Oh does Jasper really like me? He must think I’m unworthy because I’m poor and irish. While all jasper keeps thinking, ‘i need to say something in conversation to not appear like a freak’ and ‘why is uncle seth here? I bet he’s upto no good.’
There really is no substance and the speeches and assurances by the side characters keep getting on my nerves.
A great book that builds confidence in those that are poor falling in love with a rich person. Susannah Murphy grew up poor and having to move often because of prejudice against their Irish heritage. When they left Virginia for Colorado to live and work on a rancher, the owner of the large ranch’s son saw her and each fell in love but not be for his evil uncle came down and caused havoc & almost murder. A must read to get all the best if the book.
This is the story of two young people who had to fight to be together. They were both in fires that left scars as well as bad memories as they learn to love each other. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Enjoyed every page of the book. Yes, some of your hardest times come from family members trying to show they care but constantly disrupting the family.
