When I was squeezing seven rescue dogs and a horde of cats in my small house, all I wanted was to not turn away a pet in need. Opening the Safe Haven Pet Rescue was a dream come true. But when I get hurt, standing between a man with a gun and a stray dog, I realize I still can't do it all.
My injured leg, a concussion, having to lean on my friends, and realizing how helpless I feel, throws me back to my childhood when nothing I did ever seemed to be enough. But there's one silver lining. Brooklyn West. He's the kind of guy who holds a stranger’s hand in a crisis. He's great with my dogs, even cranky little Chili, and really seems to want to help the shelter. I like watching him be a protective big brother when his sister turns up on his doorstep, even though I think there's pain underneath his sunny smiles. But as we move toward friendship, I keep looking for the strings, for the catch, and wondering how I'll pay him back, because nothing in my life can be that sweet, or that simple.
Brooklyn
I went through a slice of medical hell, and came out the other side with enough money to move to the opposite side of the country and start the doggie daycare business of my dreams. The cherry on top of that good luck is meeting Arthur Bjornsson. Big, wild-bearded, soft-voiced Arthur is the kind of guy my family would've ridiculed. He's warm-hearted and willing to throw himself into harm's way right in front of my eyes to save one pathetic stray dog.
He's the kind of guy who gives me back some faith in humanity. But when my underage sister Cheyenne shows up on my doorstep, on the run from the family I thought I'd escaped, my old life and new collide. I want to help Arthur, get to know him, and, as he heals, I want more than just friendship. But Cheyenne brings legal risks, a teen on the other side of my bedroom wall, and the threat of retribution from the family. The simple relationship I thought Arthur and I were building is suddenly messy as hell. I don't know how we'll get through this to reach the furever home I so desperately want.
A Furever Home is a fur-baby-filled, hurt-comfort, small town romance between two men whose only chance at a family is to build one themselves.
I get asked about my name a lot. It's not something exotic, though. “Kaje” is pronounced just like “cage” – it’s an old nickname, and my pronouns are she/her/hers.
I was born in Montreal but have lived for 30 years in Minnesota, where the two seasons are Snow-removal and Road-repair, where the mosquito is the state bird, and where winter can be breathtakingly beautiful. Minnesota’s a kind, quiet (if sometimes chilly) place and it’s home.
I’ve been writing far longer than I care to admit (*whispers – fifty years*), mostly for my own entertainment, usually M/M romance (with added mystery, fantasy, historical, SciFi…) I also have a few Young Adult stories (some released under the pen name Kira Harp.)
My husband finally convinced me that after all the years of writing for fun, I really should submit something, somewhere. My first professionally published book, Life Lessons, came out from MLR Press in May 2011. I have a weakness for closeted cops with honest hearts, and teachers who speak their minds, and I had fun writing four novels and three freebie short stories in that series. I was delighted and encouraged by the reception Mac and Tony received.
I now have a good-sized backlist in ebooks and print, both free and professionally published. A complete list with links can be found on my website "Books" page at https://kajeharper.com/.
You can find me and my book reviews on my author page here on Goodreads - I hang out on Goodreads a lot because I moderate the Goodreads YA LGBT Books group. I also post free short YA stories on that group, more than 50 of them so far.
This book is now available wide - https://books2read.com/AFureverHome - and thanks to Gabbi, my co-writer, it is also in Audio book with the talented Michael Ferraiuolo narrating, and already whispersynced.
As much as I loved the animals - and BOY they were plenty 😄 - but I thought the book ended up focusing more on Brooklyn's sister and her problems rather than the intimate romance between Arthur and Brooklyn.
Nothing wrong with some thrills and suspense, of course, but NOT what I was looking for when I started the book.
Review A Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue- A Furever Home by Kaje Harper & Gabbi Grey
I was lucky enough to have found Gabbi Grey from some other review books I got and fell in love with her stories and type of writing. I haven't read Kaje Harper, but wow, I loved this story by these two authors. I love animals, cats and dogs are on my top picks of animals I love and have had through the years. I love it when authors write stories where there are rescue animals. The story is told to show us that many animals need homes. I couldn't put this story down once I began reading it. I loved Arthur. To take in that many pets into your home is beautiful and shows how much he loves animals. Arthur just wanted to help homeless animals, and that may become a great thing once Safe Pet Rescue is up and running. All that changes when he is hurt by a gunman. He knows now there is no way he can do all this work alone with his hurt leg. But that could change with Brooklyn West, who you can rely on in a pinch.
I couldn't put this down. I loved this book and am waiting to see what comes next from these two authors.
Nicole Harvey Received an ARC for an honest review
Michael Feraiuolo does not disappoint in this story. He makes these characters sing and draws in for the ride.
As for the story itself their were many ups and downs throughout, where it felt like a little too much at times. You did feel the characters connection yet for me the pacing felt somewhat off. This was my first read from these authors and can say I prefer the audio format, reading alone would take away the magic Michael brings to a performance leaving it not as strong of a story at least for me. The story itself would be 3 stars, but Michael's narrative brought it up to a 4 star listen.
This was so sweet. I loved Arthur in the previous books so I was so glad to see him find bis person. This was super low angst and just so sweet. I live all the furvaby side characters all with their own personalities. The narration was perfect too.,
We finally get to witness Arthur's HEA - and it's definitely hardwon...
From the first aid that Brooklyn provides at their first meeting to the ups and downs that seem to follow these two men, you see just how sweet and compatible they are, even with Brooklyn's younger sister crashing the party and all manner of other mishaps...
Whether you've read all the Gaynor Beach stories or this is your first one, you'll find lovable animals, sweet men and a town that embraces queer romance!
I enjoyed the story and it was a quick read for me!
A Furever Home by Kaje Harper and Gabbi Grey is A Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue Romance. It is the story of 2 men who never felt particularly loved growing up but did love animals and how they were able to help each other in their times of need which led them to find love. Arthur Bjornsson grew up on a farm in Minnesota, the youngest of 6 children and was often overlooked. He tried very hard to please his parents but they really didn’t seem to care much about him, which he found out in college. When he finished, he went to Gaynor Beach in Southern California and founded the Safe Haven Animal Shelter where he could receive love from all the animals in his care. He also had his own menagerie including Ebony, a black lab, Twain, a beagle, Chili, a chihuahua who didn’t like a lot of people, and his uppity queen of a cat, Xandra. They all lived in the small apartment above the shelter. He also had very good friends who worked and volunteered at the shelter but even so, he often felt alone. One day, one of his young volunteers frantically called him saying an older guy was going to shoot a dog who he thought was getting his chickens. Arthur hurried there and found Brooklyn West coming up the street and enlisted him to help. As he was trying to diffuse the situation he ended up being shot in the leg instead and also got a concussion when he fell. As they were getting ready to take him to the hospital, he implored Brooklyn to go to the shelter and help with the animals, which he does. He had recently come to Gaynor Beach to start a Doggy Day Care as he saw the town didn’t have one. He had grown up in a cult like town in New York where there was distrust of the outside world and everyone had to follow the rules of the men in charge. There were also arranged marriages and when he came out as liking men as well as women his father told him he was getting married. He was not having any of that so he left and luckily ran into a man at the bus station he was dropped off at that took him in, helped him find work, went to live with a dog trainer and learned from him, and was starting to make a good life for himself. But then something happened that led him back to his family but when he found out what they expected from him he left again. He had also come into some money so he found Gaynor Beach and went there, able to make a downpayment on a house and start his business. Meanwhile Arthur had gotten home but was dizzy and had vertigo from the concussion and was having trouble walking due to his wound. Brooklyn was there helping when he saw that Arthur couldn’t really get upstairs so he talked him into going back to his house, along with his animals, so he could watch over him and help him. At first Arthur was really cranky and they argued a lot, but Brooklyn was attracted to him and they finally kiss which leads to a hot love scene. But at 3:30 in the morning his doorbell rings and it is his 17 year old sister, Cheyenne. She had also run away from their parents and was very scared that they would send someone to get her. There was some arguing that led Arthur to leave to stay at his friend Theo’s house until Brooklyn and Cheyenne could work things out. Brooklyn also hired Wynn Cavannah who is a lawyer to help him get custody of her until she turns 18 so no one can force her to go home. Cheyenne falls in love with Sadie, a dog abandoned at the day care and also helps Arthur at the shelter. When Brooklyn and Arthur get a chance to talk, he convinces him to return to his house which Arthur agrees to and they pack and have another hot love scene. Brooklyn has found the connection he has always looked for and Arthur is starting to feel seen and loved. But then everything comes to a standstill as what they were afraid of happens when someone comes looking for Cheyenne and there are several scary scenes that involve the police and something happening at and to the shelter. Luckily everything turns out in their favor and they were able to say they loved each other and that all 3 of them are going to become a family. I really enjoyed this story. Arthur was a big teddy bear, although grumpy after he was shot, and loved all his animals. Brooklyn was kind and caring and was finally able to be what he wanted to be. Both men had never been loved they way they should have been growing up and it was wonderful when they could find the love they wanted with each other. Cheyenne as well as Arthur’s animals played a big part in the story and you get to know them well. Arthur’s friends and the people who worked at the shelter were also important. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories about men who had just about given up on finding love, one of them escaping a cult like life, some drama and suspense, and lots of animal love as they find what they are looking for in each other.
Gaynor Beach has an animal shelter, run by Arthur and now it has a Doggie Daycare run by newcomer Brooklyn. There is just something so appealing about animals, especially dogs and cats that immediately draws me to a story, this one particularly since it is central to the story and these are the dogs, cats and other small animals who need our love and attention. Love and attention is not in short supply for them in Gaynor Beach, except in the incident which opens this story.
Kevin, you might remember from previous books, the 13 year old determined to save any and every animal, is standing down a man with a gun who wants to shoot what he is convinced is the coyote terrorising his chickens. Kevin is trying to tell him its a scared dog. He does the sensible thing and calls Arthur who runs into Brooklyn, the other man simply happening to be walking past the situation in question. The end result? Arthur in hospital with gunshot wound and an intrigued Brooklyn.
From there the story builds, around the shelter, the daycare, all the friends Arthur has, that Brooklyn will soon have too. But there is a twist, an unpleasant one, for Brooklyn. He has found this place, his new home and business, thanks to advice from a friend but also because he wanted to completely cut ties with his cultist family. Whilst it is difficult to understand their views, their anti-globalism, their conviction that if the worst should come their isolated community can hold its own, Gabbi Grey both explains the concept and weaves it into her story seamlessly, believably. There is of course bias. We are on the side of Brooklyn, later his sister, but again that is made integral to the story and to the events which have taken place in the past are that we are about to engage with.
Through all this love shines strong. There is, as I have said, love for the animals and the pets, there is also a slow-burning love between Arthur and Brooklyn. Some might say it is a grump-sunshine ~ hurt-comfort romance and in part it is but it is so much more, there is an incredible depth to their growing relationship. They have to learn to trust themselves, one another and their animals, they have to trust others too. Letting people in is not easy for everyone and for this pair not necessarily natural but they, in their way, show us how they want it to happen and how secure their bond becomes.
This story has an incredible depth, one that I feel I want to return and plunder again, it is inspirational, beautiful, thought-provoking and provides plenty of smiles alongside an abundance of love.

Furever💘Love! A Fabulously Heartwarming Story & Listen🎧
A Furever Home A Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue Romance By: Gabbi Grey Narrated by: Michael Ferraiuolo
It is great to be back in Gaynor Beach for another fabulous novel, a heartwarming romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. Each book in this multi-author series stands are their own, and this book written by Gabbi Grey and Kaje Harper is Arthur and Brooklyn West’s story. Arthur, an animal lover with a heart of gold, wants to rescue them all, but he also comes to the rescue of humans too. A combination of rescuing both is how he wound up with a bullet in his leg, but it was also how he met Brooklyn, a fairly newcomer to Gaynor Beach. It was great watching Arthur and Brooklyn get to know each other and seeing their relationship morph into something more. Brooklyn’s younger sister, Cheyenne, shows up, after running away from home to escape a terrible situation, and knowing how bad it is there, he will do what he can to keep her from having to go back and consults with a lawyer. Brooklyn knew it was a risk taking Cheyenne in, since he also left home for a reason, and now he is facing his past again, this time not only with Arthur at his side, but with furry friends and his sister too. There is never a dull moment in this beautifully written and plotted story, a story with the perfect balance of drama, angst, some thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions, and a wonderful romance that warms your heart. Gabbi Grey and Kaje Harper, thank you for this fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Michael Ferraiuolo continues to do a fabulous job voicing these characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. He gives each character their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. His take on the two leads was perfection, embodying their personalities completely, and he was just as fabulous voicing the side characters, Cheyenne included. He set an ideal tone for the story, conveyed all the characters’ emotions in his performance, making you feel each one. Ferraiuolo is a gifted voice artist and an entertaining storyteller who hooks you to the story.
I have not read the other books in this series and would classify this one as a standalone, but it was still notable in the story that this is indeed not the first book. I let all the names fly past me at the start and after that I wasn't really bothered. The epilogue felt a bit weird though, not knowing all these characters.
That aside, this is a well written romance that unfortunately it is not for me. I've started to realise that while I love animals, I mostly love to look at them and pet them. I'm not really getting all the warm and fuzzy feelings through text. I much prefer animals in stories when they are magical familiars, possibly even with ability to speak. The pets are nice and the mission admirable, but I'm not curling my toes here.
The guys are a lovely pair of generous men taking care of fluffy animals. I was indeed expecting something warm and fuzzy, and there was that too, but it didn't take that many pages for the main character getting shot. And then the later plot about Brooklyn's past coming to haunt him in the form of an escaped little sister. It was pretty heavy stuff. But the main tone of the book is hopeful and there are plenty of warm relationships.
My biggest actual gripe about the story is the workaholism. I live in a country with working universal health care (which is not perfect but it's still pretty damn good) and paid sick leaves. I am trying to understand people who get shot, spend a day in a hospital, and then go to work. I. Am. Trying. Especially since Arthur doesn't really need to. Please, if any way possible, let your body heal a bit. Preventive measures are better. It will be less painful and less expensive too in the long run to let some things heal properly.
Unfortunately that was not even the only moment where I'm reading this very unhealthy must work myself to the bone mindset here. While I don't think the book glorifies it, the guys are being told to rely on other more, etc., I still don't think it's really shown how pathologic it is either.
Contemporary romance only sometimes really works for me and this book wasn't a hit, though I feel like it will certainly entertain many others.
Oh I am so happy! Finally we get Arthur's HEA. And how well deserved it is. I have read every book in the Friends of Gaynor Beach Animals Rescue and Arthur had a place in my heart right from the beginning. Every book I hoped he'd get his HEA, he is such a good and loveable character. He does everything for those animals that need help even if it meant giving up his own space for them. He is such a marshmallow when an animal is in need of help. And that is the way he meets his love interest Brooklyn.
Brooklyn is new in Gaynor Beach, has just opened a doggy daycare and ends up taking care of Arthur when he needs it after being shot protecting Kevin and a stray dog.
Those two become roommates (Arthur can't manage the stairs in his home atm and Brooklyn offered his home to him)
It was fun to see those two trying to not fall for each other.
A surprise visit from Brooklyn's sister who tries to escape a bad situation nearly destroyes the budding relationship but in the end all ends well with Arthur & Brooklyn's own HEA.
A well deserved HEA.
Both MCs are really likeable characters, well developed and feel quite real. They have their pasts, problems and flaws and a deep love for animals, their friends and especially each other.
I was rooting for those two very hard and was with the drama regarding Brooklyn's sister more than once at the edge of my seat.
Enjoyable and entertaining read. Definitely a recommendation from me.
I know I will read this book, probably the whole Gaynor Beach universe, again.
Lovely series, great MCs an engaging writingstyle coupled with some wonderful cameos. I was very happy with the story - and yet sad at the same time because this series has come to an end.
Give it a try yourself the books are worth the read.

Story = 3.5 stars Narration = 5 stars
This can be read as a standalone. There are side characters that pop in that were from other books but it isn't necessary to know them. I have only read the other 2 books by Gabbi in this series.
I almost wish that I went into this one without knowing the other 2 books because I found myself comparing it to them and missing Mama's huge family. Also, this book features lots of dogs in a pack and I missed the individual quarks that the individual dog characters had in the other 2 books.
I enjoyed this story well enough. There wasn't any relationship angst, just lots of plot drama, which I enjoyed. I didn’t struggle to finish it. I just prob won't listen to it ever again.
The 2 MCs were likeable and had good chemistry. I did find their relationship development overly rushed though.
The sister character plays a huge role the entirety of the book. While she redeemed herself in the end, I found the character really obnoxious for the first while, and it kind of ruined a bit of the enjoyment for me. Why be rude to someone doing you a favor?!
I do love a good drama but this plot is a bit too close to today's world and I think that also ruined the enjoyment for me. I read to escape reality. These characters were definitely a more extreme version but it still felt too close for comfort to what's happening today.
The narrator did a great job. He expressed the emotions really well and brought the story to life. He kept a good flow and I found his voice/accent pleasant to listen too. He gave all the characters, even the side characters, their own distinct voice that suited each of them perfectly, making it easy to follow the story and a pleasure to listen to. He does female and kid voices so well.
This was a cute, emotional story that I really enjoyed. I loved getting to know these two and seeing them come together. Arthur and Brooklyn are both sweet men and have not had things the easiest. Arthur didn't have a traumatic childhood but he isn't close to his family and feels more forgotten than anything else. It has influenced his interactions with friends and others that he needs to not be a burden and needs to be able to repay/offer them something. He has a hard time accepting help but loves to give it. He is running the animal shelter in town. Brooklyn did have a bit more of a harder, more intense past with where and how he was raised and he has separated from that and new in town with his doggy day care. They meet when Arthur is injured by getting shot in the leg standing between a dog and a man with a gun and Brooklyn was there. Arthur was worried about the shelter and Brooklyn wanted to help. Then Arthur ends up needing more help during recovery as the stairs to get up to his place and the concussion he has don't work so well together. I enjoyed seeing them get along and both of their demeanors being on the quieter, wanting to help side the forced proximity allowed them to get to know each other and feelings to continue to develop. As things are starting to move to the romantic and physical side of things, Brooklyn's 17 year old sister shows up in the middle of the night as a runaway. She isn't overly forthcoming at first about what is going on and why she ran instead of waiting the few short months until her birthday and graduating high school. I loved seeing them come together and figure out how to deal with it as they were starting a new relationship and getting together. The story was sweet and emotion and well done. I was engaged with the characters and the story and enjoyed it the entire way. The narrator did a great job with the characters and bringing their personalities to life with their voice as well as what was happening in the story.
This is a sweet MM story that takes us back to the gay-friendly town of Gaynor Beach. It has a lot of action, some angst (not between the MCs), and family drama. It starts and ends with a bang (not including the epilogue, which of course, has an HEA). I loved Brooklyn, Arthur, all the side characters, and even Cheyenne, when she stopped acting like an entitled brat. (She seemed absolutely clueless and unconcerned as to the risky position she put Brooklyn in.) Arthur was absolutely my favorite, with his big heart, willing to do anything for the animals and people of G.B. I was so glad to see everything work out so well for him in life and love. I enjoyed the cameos of various characters from previous books, including James, Danny, their loves, and of course Momma. I would have loved to see her set loose on Brooklyn and Cheyanne's parents. Then again, the less said abut them, the better. There is a bit more feeling of suspense and danger is this book than the other G.B. reads, in my opinion, but it is balanced well with the developing love between Brooklyn and Arthur. Great feel good story.
The narration by Michael Ferraiuolo is great. He is very versatile, and he excels at bringing out the heart and soul of every character, from the gentle Arthur to the spunky Cheyanne, the caring attorney, and even the horrible Harvey. All around great to listen to, and really brought the story to life.
I received a free copy of the audio and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Finally! Arthur’s story! I’ve read/listened to many of the books set in Gaynor Beach, especially those by these two authors so I was really looking forward to reading/hearing Arthur’s story. Somehow though in my mind he’s like in his late 50s/60s (a young older man) but he’s only 38!!! My vision of him in all these books has been like an older lighthouse keeper? I don’t know where I got that from but I am now thoroughly straightened out. That aside, this is Arthur and Brooklyn’s story. We get a little more of Arthur’s background but I think there’s a strong bent (for some obvious reasons) of Brooklyn’s background since he’s new to town and trying to establish a doggie day care when his teenage sister shows up on his doorstep. He has a very, unusual, past with a doomsday-like, small town upbringing that he and now Cheyanne have run away from. The crux of the story is on his and Arthur’s burgeoning relationship amid this drama. It’s the type of book overall that can definitely be listened to on a first run (I don’t have auditory retention so I usually use audio for re-reads). In this case I definitely did some back and forth switching to make sure I was following the cast of characters and a few of the intricacies, but all in all is a smooth listen with Michael Ferraiuolo narrating all of the Gaynor Beach books by Gabbi Grey. I like him as a narrator and find the consistency comforting. The biggest thing I want to know, though, is what happened to Sadie’s owner?!?
If you want to read a sweet romance that also revolves around animals, this is the book for you. The story is set in Gaynor Beach, and this time Arthur finally gets his happy ending after being shot at the beginning of the story. Yes, this time there is quite a bit of action and also some fear. Brooklyn and Arthur are very likeable main characters, both with big hearts, and you just have to love them. Then there's some family drama when Brooklyn's underage sister suddenly shows up. I had some difficulties with the sister at first, because she didn't really seem to realize the consequences her appearance would have for her brother, but on the other hand, she has no one else but him. You can feel the chemistry between Arthur and Brooklyn, but with the sister's appearance, the relationship story unfortunately fell a little short in my eyes. Nevertheless, I found the book entertaining and the story quite enjoyable. And what can I say? I'm a huge fan of animals in books, so I loved all the animals that appear in the book.
Michael Feraiuolo did a damn good job. As always, he is very versatile and does an excellent job of bringing each character to life by giving them the appropriate voice. I could picture the gentle Arthur just as well as the worried Brooklyn or the spirited Chayenne and the aggressive Harvey. It was a pleasure to listen to him.
I read this as a stand-alone, not having read any of the books in the Friends of Gabor Beach Animal Rescue multi-author series or any of the Single Dads of Gaynor Beach books. Despite this, I was captivated. Harper and Grey write their animals so beautifully. I was fully invested in this fur-family. In fact, I may have fallen in love with the animals in the family before I found myself loving our main characters, Brooklyn and Arthur.
Brooklyn has every reason to be closed off and wary. Yet he is giving and generous. His doggie day care business is just starting up at the beginning of the book, following his move to Gaynor Beach.
Arthur, meanwhile, is a complex character who runs the animal shelter. He is an effective manager who seems to have a team who like him and a large group of friends. Yet he can be introverted and prefers the company of animals to most people. When he is in pain, he is short with people and stubbornly independent.
We get to ride along as these men learn to lean on each other. All of this is set against a backdrop of suspense, as Brooklyn’s sister Cheyenne brings trouble to the front door. This part of the novel was also well-written, as I felt my heart-rate increase a couple times.
Well written co-authored work that was a delight to read, with wonderful characters (human, canine and feline) and a sweet insta-love romance. Five stars.
I received a free copy. This review is submitted voluntarily.
When I first started the book, I thought that both were perhaps just hesitant to buy into the relationship. They actually have some difficulty accepting that anyone could love them and thus spent a tad too much time in indecision. That said, I did enjoy the book. Their initial meeting on the property of a man with a gun trying to protect his chickens from what he thought was a coyote (but was just a large dog) and threatening a teenager who wanted to protect the dog was rather funny. It’s interesting that this teenager, Kevin, actually is a thread appearing in pretty well the whole series. Gaynor Beach, California is a very LGBTQ+ friendly town, as shown in this series and the Single Dads of Gaynor Beach one. The steam was fairly limited in this book and was done tastefully. The secondary characters, most of whom we’ve seen in previous books, are a lot of fun and add a lot to plot development, even the bad guys. There are essentially two parallel plots in the story – the budding relationship between Arthur and Brooklyn as well as the storyline around Brooklyn’s sister, Cheyenne. Both come together at the end.
This was an interesting book that I enjoyed a lot.
I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. The story had suspense and danger from the start and I was immediately hooked. I loved both Brooklyn and Arthur. How they first met and what their immediate concerns/priorities were in that moment really showed off the quality of who they were. Brooklyn was a complete stranger, but really stepped up to help when he was needed while Arthur was in the hospital, and then took him into his home so that he could recover easier and not be alone. Arthur was independent and didn't like to be coddled- the kind of person that pushes to do what needed to be done themselves even if they were hurting. These two were so sweet together and I loved how they grew close and their relationship developed. I loved all the supporting characters- and most drawn into Cheyenne's story. I also loved all the animals and that Arthur ran a pet rescue while Brooklyn ran a doggie daycare. A beautiful hurt/comfort romance.
While reading, I was also lucky enough to get the audiobook. Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my favorite narrators and did a fantastic job of bringing this story to life. He had different voices for all the characters, and it was a joy listening to him.
All told, this was an enjoyable story and entertaining listen.
Narrator Michael Ferraiuolo is one of the best around, so I jumped at the opportunity to give the audiobook a listen despite being new to the series. I was rewarded with a feel-good trip to a charming place where I got to meet understanding and relatable characters and adorable pets.
Being new to the Gaynor Beach universe, one of the things I appreciated most was how MC Brooklyn was also new to town. It felt like I was riding sh0tgen as he met the locals and figured out everyone's connections to each other.
The story kicks off with a bang (literally) and packs a whole lotta wholesome goodness and a decent amount of sweet-level spice. The MCs are kind and loving (if not a little prickly to start with, Arthur) - just as one would expect in a small-town romance - and you can't help but root for their HEA. The animal rescue angle also features prominently - MC Arthur is the shelter director and MC Brooklyn runs a doggy daycare - so there's tons of critter cuteness too.
No surprise, Michael Ferraiuolo gave a fabulous performance. He gave each character, from the top down, a distinct voice and he hit all the right emotional notes in every scene. I'll be listening to this one again.
4 1/5 stars I love this series. Truly the most unique meet cute. Arthur gets a panicked call from thirteen-year-old Kevin. "I think the dog's hurt and there is a man with a gun that's going to shoot it." As founder of Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue what can he do but run to the rescue. Approaching the scene, he sees a tall blond man coming from the other direction. A shot rings out and both Arthur and the stranger spring into action. Arthur gets between the older man and Kevin to try to defuse the situation and gets shot for his efforts. Brooklyn is more than happy to help out at the rescue. When it becomes apparent Aurther can't access his second-floor walkup apartment above the rescue, Brooklyn steps in to offer his spare bedroom. Brooklyn loves to take care of Arthur, and Aurthur relucently learns to accept help. Arthur and Brooklyn find they co-habitat well, and soon they are literally and figuratively feeling each other out. When Brooklyn's seventeen-year-old sister shows up fleeing their parents to force her to marry a much older man with a reputation as an abuser, Brooklyn and Auther join forces to protect her at all cost.
Brooklyn, new to Gaynor Beach, is a professional dog walker and a hero to boot. Arthur, a local hero, owns/runs the animal sanctuary and is the all-around big, lovable guy.
We meet both main characters as they rush to help a local kid who is trying to protect a stray dog; one gunshot later, life takes an unexpected turn for everyone.
This is a well-written book, and I love listening to Michael narrate. It's always an enjoyable experience, and this book doesn't disappoint. I would definitely recommend it.
Michael Ferraiuolo does a fantastic job, as usual, narrating this book. I sped up this narration to 1.20 on Audible, which is my normal setting.

I received this audiobook for free from GRR at my request. My review is my opinion and an honest review - neither the author nor GRR influenced my opinion.
Finally we get Arthur’s story. I’ve wanted his story from the first time I met him, way back when he was fostering all the animals in his tiny house.
And what a story. I couldn’t have asked for anything more, except for maybe a bit more Kevin - with his innate sense of responsibility I can’t quite believe Kevin didn’t insist on visiting Arthur at Brooklyn’s, walking the dogs etc.
It had plenty of excitement for someone who normally lives the quiet life with his rescue dogs.
Brooklyn was a lovely match for Arthur and their relationship, while quick, did feel organic. Running away from his past, all he wanted was a quiet life in Gaynor Beach running his doggy daycare. Did he get it, no he didn’t.
And of course there were the dogs, so many fur babies with distinct personalities, and intrinsic to the story.
We get cameos from plenty of the other men of Gaynor Beach, giving little catch ups with some of the couples.
I listened to the audio mostly. The narrator does a solid job, with two distinct voices for the leads (helpfully Brooklyn had a New York accent).
Was Arthur’s story worth the wait? Yes, yes it was.
This is the final book in the multi-author series Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue. This is the story of Arthur Bjornsson and Brooklyn West. Arthur is the director for the Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue. He is a character that we have seen in earlier books. While trying to stop someone shooting a stray dog, he is shot himself. Brooklyn was just walking by when he heard the commotion and ran in to help. Brooklyn has just moved to Gaynor Beach and has set up his own dog sitting business. A unique way for a first meet. When it becomes obvious that Arthur can't climb up the stairs to his apartment, Brooklyn moves him, his three dogs and cat into his house. He has lots of room is comfortable with animals. This is their story. There are a few obstacles to their HEA including the baggage they each bring to the situation. The book is a sweet and easy read. It can be enjoyed as a standalone read.

A sweet and practical romance. We finally get a love story for Arthur, the animal shelter hero of Gaynor Beach. He never wants to be a burden or problem for anyone. He's the king of "it's fine" when really he's drowning. It all comes to a head when he rushes to the aid of local teen Kevin who's trying to protect a dog from getting shot. Running to the scene Arthur meets passerby Brooklyn who immediately wants to help. Arthur ends up shot in the leg and in need of some TLC and Brooklyn steps up to give him a place to recuperate. Feelings start to blossom between them but they are quickly interrupted by the sudden appearance of Brooklyn's runaway sister. They come from an extremely conservative family who is trying to force her to marry an older man in their community. There is such an air of practicality in these 2 MCs. They are very responsible and it makes the spice level a little low, but the love and romance makes up for it. I really enjoyed the narration and Michael Ferraiuolo does a nice job differentiating the voices. Would recommend.
Brooklyn was raised in a community that prepares for the world going wrong and the marriages are arranged he had left home but then got sick then the hospital messed him up on giving him medication so he got a settlement which his parents thought they should get all. He gave them some and moved across the country and going to start a business in a doggie day care which he liked doing. Arthur runs the rescue for animals he went running when one of the kids was trying to get a dog away from a chicken house and got shot and fell hard enough to get a concussion. Brooklyn heard the shot and went running towards it since Arthur couldn’t get up the stairs he took Arthur and his animals to his place no stairs. His sister Cheyenne showed up their parents were going to make her an abusive man when she turns 18 so he was trying to get custody they sent the man after her but the cops finally got him. Things worked out for all.

I loved Arthur in a previous book set in this world, and enjoyed his and Brooklyn’s story with its mix of romance, found family, and a dash of suspense.
Both Arthur and Brooklyn have had a less than stellar upbringing, with their family leaving a not-so-great legacy. I loved how their relationship starts with a runaway dog, and then grows from there. Brooklyn’s family, in particular, have a lot to answer for, although I liked his sister, and was pleased with the resolution to that part of the story.
I enjoyed the part the dogs, and cat, play in bringing them together, with them very much a part of the family in this furever story. I was very happy to meet, and in some cases catch up with, their friends and the wider community of Gaynor Beach.
I loved how the story built not only Arthur and Brooklyn’s relationship, but the underlying tension of Brooklyn’s family and what they might. I loved how everyone played their part to remove that threat. Sadie rocks!
Their HEA a few months later is perfectly them, and their new family.

It's a warm and fuzzy story with drama, violence, and a bit of action. Oh, there are a lot of dogs and cats, too. I promise you'll get engrossed from the start. It's different from the other books in the "Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue".
Arthur Bjornsson owns and operates the animal rescue. Brooklyn West is new to town, and runs a doggy daycare business from his home. Arthur and Brooklyn meet for the first time when walking in their neighborhood and hear a gunshot. Upon checking they find 13 year-old Kevin trying to shield a stray dog from the shooter. Brooklyn takes in Arthur after he is shot in the leg, and suffers a serious concussion at the same time. Arthur finally gives in and moves in with his cat and dogs.
I really enjoyed this book and am satisfied by reading it. I happily recommend it.
