This Fourth of July, someone is going out with a BANG!Fireworks aren’t the only thing exploding this Fourth of July, I’m trading my sparklers for bullets. *Includes RECIPE!*Look, I never planned to spend America's birthday investigating a murder instead of celebrating it. But when a food critic face-plants into his corn pudding and drops dead at Honey Hollow’s Taste of America Festival, what's a reluctant hitwoman to do?
I’m Effie Canelli, and my holiday to-do list just got complicated—decorate our booth for the patriotic competition, avoid assassinating the mayor (direct orders from my Uncle Jimmy, the family’s resident crime lord), and oh yeah—figure out who poisoned the deceased before Cooper arrests me for another murder I didn't commit.
My hot detective boyfriend Cooper is officially investigating, but between food truck vendors with deadly secrets, my meddling family turning every situation into a three-ring circus, and a growing list of suspects who wanted Larry permanently off the menu, I’m knee-deep in red, white, and blue chaos.
So grab your apple pie and join me in Honey Hollow, where the fireworks are explosive, the family drama is even more explosive, and someone is serving up more than just patriotic cuisine this Independence Day. Trust me—this Fourth of July murder spree is the kind of fireworks show that'll blow your mind! I guess it’s true what they say—living in Honey Hollow can be murder.

Effie Canelli works as a baker in Honey Hollow as a cover up to her real job – assassin for her Uncle Jimmy. He just ordered a hit on Mayor Nash. Mayor Nash is her boss’s biological father and overall nice guy except for some minor quirks. She doesn’t know how she is going to make this happen, when a not-so-like food critic dropped dead at Honey Hollow’s Taste of America Festival. Of course Effie wants to figure out who murdered the food critic because it happened right in front of her.
There are so many potential suspects to interview and her boyfriend Cooper Knox is also officially investigating. Did I mention he’s a hot detective and works with Noah (from Murder in the Mix). Oh and Lottie of Lottie, Everett, and Noah is Effie’s boss and can understand the curse of finding dead bodies?! In addition to interviewing suspects, planning to assonate the mayor, Effie is tasked with decorating the bakery’s booth to win a gift certificate, and don’t forget she also has to keep her Aunt and Carlotta out of trouble. Trouble follows those two every where they go!
Can Effie avoid a murder she doesn’t want to commit and solve the murder of the most disliked food critic ever – read the story and find out! You won’t regret doing so! You will find yourself laughing out loud and trying to figure out which of the suspects has the most to gain from killing Larry the food critic. There is so much fun drama throughout the book that you will find yourself shaking your head and almost wishing you were there to take part!
The book can be read as a stand alone story, but I highly recommend reading the series and if you can read Murder in the Mix as well as this series is a spin off of that series.

Big Bang (Book 5) of the Pain in the Assassin Cozy Mysteries by Addison Moore is a delightful addition to this charming and addictive series. Moore delivers another cleverly plotted mystery, filled with quirky characters, witty banter, and just the right amount of small-town intrigue. The twists kept me guessing without ever feeling far-fetched, and the main character’s humor and determination made it easy to root for her throughout. While I absolutely enjoyed the ride, there were a couple of moments where the pacing slowed a bit, which kept me from giving it a full five stars. Still, this book is a fantastic read for cozy mystery fans and a worthy entry in the series. Looking forward to the next adventure! The Fourth of July means it’s time for the Honey Hollow Taste of America Festival. Red, white, and blue decorations and sparkles are everywhere and all the food has a patriotic theme. Effie Canelli is working at the Cutie Pie bakery booth, although it’s a cover for her real job as a hitman for her uncle. Her target this time, Carlotta’s on again off again squeeze Mayor Nash. Before she can pull the trigger, a food truck chef falls dead at her feet. Effie, along with Aunt Cat, Carlotta, and Nikki set out to solve the case much to Cooper’s chagrin. Can she find the killer and keep Uncle Jimmy happy before the fireworks go off?
A fast and furious funny holiday read from prolific author Addison Moore. This spinoff from the Murder in the Mix series has plenty of familiar faces helping Effie navigate her dual roles of baker and hit woman as well as amateur sleuth. Carlotta and Aunt Cat provide comedy and chaos. Nona Jo goes head to head with Cooper’s sister, Loretta for the affection of a diner chef. Effie and Cooper are so cute together and I love the added conflict of them being from rival mafia families. The mystery flows quickly with viable suspects and motives and a satisfying conclusion.

Big Bang is the fifth book in the Pain in the Assassin series. This book is set in Honey Hollow, with Lottie’s bakery one of the main settings. But this series focuses on Effie. After losing her big tech job, she returned to Honey Holly and went to her mob boss uncle for help, and he gave her two options, and she chose the option which landed her as a hitman for him. After settling in she started dating a homicide detective and find her self keeping a big secret from him. It is almost the fourth of July. Lottie has the bakery set up with a booth at the lake selling all of her goodies. Effie is busy setting up when she sees Carlotta and aunt Cat come with the envelope that means there is a new target set for a hit. After seeing how who the next target is and she is deep into checking out all the booths she finds herself walking right I to her next headache. Larry comes stumbling over and falls directly in from of her. Now she is distracted from doing what her uncle wants and busy trying to find who killed Larry. She has her top suspects but needs to narrow it down. Will she be able to solve the murder? Will she complete her mission for her uncle? Or will this get her all sorts of stumped?
Big Bang by Addison Moore was such a fun and entertaining read. I’ve come to expect a blend of humor, mystery, and quirky characters from this author, and this book definitely delivered. From the first chapter, I found myself pulled into the chaos and eager to see what would happen next.
I especially enjoyed the witty dialogue and the way the story balanced laugh-out-loud moments with an engaging mystery. Every time I thought I had the answers, another twist popped up and kept me guessing. The characters were full of personality, making it easy to get invested in both their lives and the mystery unfolding around them.
What I liked most was how quickly the story moved without feeling rushed. It was one of those books I kept saying I’d read “just one more chapter” of before realizing I’d stayed up much later than planned. A fun, fast-paced read with plenty of charm, humor, and surprises along the way.

Uncle Jimmy gives Effie Canelli a new “hit” job to complete. This Fourth of July will go off with a bang if she succeeds. Effie doesn’t want to kill anyone, let alone the mayor, and when a food critic drops dead at the Taste of America Festival, it’s the perfect excuse to investigate the murder instead. She might be able to solve the case before her boyfriend, the kissable Homicide Detective Cooper Knox, finds out what she is up to if her family’s antics don’t derail everything!
Omg! Between glitter and food fights, I couldn’t stop laughing. What a series! I received a free copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.

Lottie, Bizzy, and Hattie are trans mundane people. Lottie Is supersensual, meaning she can see and hear the dead especially animals. Bizzy and Hattie are telesensual, meaning they can read minds of humans and animals. They all have a tendency to find dead bodies. Addison Moore is an excellent story teller. She leads the readers on a journey of mystery and suspense, keeping their attention to see what will happen next. I highly recommend these books! Happy reading! 😊
Effie has been given a new hit contract and her husband Cooper is a homicide detective officer, who she keeps that fact a secret. When a food critic dies at the Taste of America Festival Effie has to solve this before Cooper. She does not want her family members to get caught, if they did this. Bizzy and Hattie are right by her side What makes Addison Moore's books spectacular are the hysterical situations. This time it is filled with glitter and a spectacular food fight.
What more could you want but to celebrate with but a Big Bang ? But not the way this book looks to meaning when fatal ends seem to mean demise and not SURPRISE!! Addison Moore has a great sense of what we love to read and she must indeed read with speed as there’s always something new to entertain you I feel. And that excites and makes me almost squeal. I mean come on I’m not that excitable but these books sure do get you immersed in and comfortable.
These three books took me a long time to read and I am not exactly sure why. They do not lend themselves well to AI audio due to so many thoughts being mind read. It’s funny and a smidge trashy and I really enjoyed it. There are a lot of characters to keep up with as a new to this author reader.
Big Bang Book 5 of Pain in the Assassin Cozy Mysteries by Addison Moore is such a fun and entertaining story! A fast-paced story that flows nicely with great characters and witty banter that made me snort laugh! A fantastic addition to this series and I can't wait for more!
