Grace Gibson is very good with words and she has a very unique storytelling style that I believe works really well with the first person writing, especially Mr. Darcy’s. She is able to make us feel what the character is feeling while transporting us into that specific scenery, the reader joins the characters in her books and becomes part of the story—From Pemberley to Milton
Love only wishes to see what it loves.Darcy and Bingley depart Netherfield Park, leaving Elizabeth Bennet acutely aware of the monotony of her life. Seeking a reprieve, she volunteers to serve as temporary companion to Mrs. Gardiner’s elderly aunt who lives in Lambton. Nothing turns out as Elizabeth expects, and she is forced to dig deep into her reserves of common sense, humor, and stubborn persistence to prove herself equal to the dreary circumstances. Initially unaware that Pemberley is only five miles away, Elizabeth crosses paths with Darcy annoyingly often. When the gentleman rescues her from a shocking situation, Elizabeth faces some hard choices, at the same time struggling against the smoldering attraction that can neither be repressed nor fulfilled. Mr Darcy, in whose heart a fire has also been lit, is shocked by the lady’s stubborn refusal to accept his help. Alternating between alarm and begrudging admiration, he stands helplessly on the sidelines while she struggles to retain her independence. He, too, must make some hard choices in the end. Will he let her go?
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This is part of the Pride and Prejudice Variations series. There is nothing to do but LOVE this story! It’s a totally fresh approach to our timeless and beloved couple. Elizabeth faces some harsh realities with a good dose of humbling as she struggles to help an ailing, elderly aunt of Madeleine Gardiner. As Fitzwilliam Darcy watches Elizabeth proudly conquer all the trials, horrors and obstacles in her way through sheer will and determination, he reflects upon his own life, his long held beliefs and strives to become a man worthy of the incredible woman he has come to love. I was so sad that this story had to end. Don’t miss this one. This is a true gem from Grace Gibson.
Simply put, I have read too many, and yet the writing, the characterization, the pathos, it all is treated with a light touch, and yet with deep intersection. I particularly adore this book for its insight into how small village politics works, the lot of old women in a time where healthcare was almost entirely in the hands of the church and the family, and for the lack of opportunity for young women (read this, trad-wife, and be grateful for how far we have come).
This is the second read for me of easy of her books. This is a' she said, then he says' story. But the repeat of easy story is so refreshing that it is never boring. Her characters are well developed and well, the story is simply 'delightful'. Will be adding all of her books to my physical library.
I have always enjoyed the author’s writing so much and I was thrilled to read this one. However, as the style and the witty repartee caught me instantly, I personally do not much care for the Cinderella-ish story line. Thus the minus of one star. Yet recommended all the same.
This story is very well written and has an unusual premise. The rich and wonderful use of language and phrasing is quite pleasing as is telling the story though both Elizabeth's and Darcy's viewpoints.
I love a real unique variation and this one gives it to you from the start. I also love the journey of how Elizabeth falls in love with Darcy. There is so much humour and tenderness. A great story!
This wonderful story showed us what can be accomplished when you treat people with gentleness , love and patience...the characters were perfect and the story was full of adventure 💗💗💗
I reviewed a previous book by this author and thought it was my most favorite P&P variation, but nope, this one was even better. Tears and laughs and smiles were all expressed while reading. So good!
Plot, style and characterization are all excellent, as one would expect to find in any book written by Grace Gibson. I look forward to each of her stories the same way I anticipate a rich chocolate treat. And they never disappoint.
