Two hundred and forty-five years ago, high-class Englishman, Carter Patton, happened upon a book which transported him to a different world. After a century of searching for a way back, five decades of wandering Braemyr, and another century of self-appointed isolation, he sees no end to his dull existence.
Aura Laufeld is on the cusp of finishing her PhD, but she's far from living her best life. Distanced from her friends and recently betrayed by her ex-boyfriend, she finds an escape in the local library. An escape which becomes all too real when she opens an antique novel and awakens in an unfamiliar land with colorful fingers and unruly magic at her disposal.
Brought together by fate, Carter and Aura struggle to find common ground. Attraction draws them closer but lies tear them apart. In the wake of two giant revelations, the handsome and passionate, Myrick Walden, promises Aura potential answers to her teleportation on the condition she help his organization with a monumental task.
Ensnared by politics which aren’t their own, Carter grapples with romantic feelings and an uncertain future, while Aura struggles to restrain her magic and spurn two interested men. With the rareness of her abilities drawing dangerous intrigue and testing the loyalties of those they thought were allies, both begin to question whether their old lives are still attainable even as details of their transport are finally revealed.
I was definitely amazed by this book! The story and abilities described in this book are definitely something new I didn't read before. Definitely recommend!
Very entertaining book from this first-time author! While fantasy-fiction is not typically the genre I read, I found the story interesting and the magic unique. The characters are described well and you can feel their angst and cheer them on during their challenges. The author leaves the reader hanging at the end… what will happen to Aura and Carter next… and between them? I’m now wondering when the next novel in the series is going to come out. I’m following Alexa’s author website and hope to learn more. Well done with this fun and easy read!
Exceeded expectations! I loved the world building, where we get to discover this place through the interactions between characters and basically at the same time as the main character. As an avid reader, I especially appreciated being surprised by twists that weren't evident but still feeling clued in ! Aura is a very relatable main character and a strong lead, who frequently seems to forget her newly acquired magic powers after landing in this totally new world (which makes her all the more relatable). I'm excited to see where the story takes her in the following books of this series! And while readers will get their dose of romantic tension and pining, the romance is secondary to the character development and storyline which is refreshing and bold and fun.
100% will recommend this book to friends and family.
As with any well written novel, It is always sad to leave the characters.... almost like moving away . I look forward to picking up where book one left off.
Really cool book by a young author. The magic system is awesome and I am so captivated by the story. This fantasy series better continues! Highly recommend!
