Dang, where do I even begin? First of all, thank you to the author for an arc copy of “All That Life”, this review is based on my own emotions and opinions and completely volunteered. “All That Life” is a story that is based in Europe during WWII that four individuals are threaded together through fate. This novel is never before seen from this author and set in a different time era and I think the writing, especially the imagery and the emotions translated was absolutely beautiful! It is a tough read with themes of baby loss, muder, and other triggering topics as it is based in war and during the time of Nazi’s rule (ew) so it talks about real life events that have occurred such as the holocaust and what Eurpope did as a whole to try and stop and fight against the rule of the Nazis, etc. This novel was also my very first time reading more into the time period of WW11 and it definitely piqued my interest even more! I fell in love with the characters and also got my heart wracked out of my chest and stomped all over it (thanks Leah), experienced an emotional rollercoaster and was kept on my toes! I feel this topic is so important so we know how to stop history from repeating itself and to keep the story of the holocaust and what horrors and devastations that people went through alive so we don't forget what has happened and Leah definitely handled the tough topics with care and importance! Overall an amazing read and like many of Leah Toole’s books this has become one of my favorite reads and definitely gets 5 stars (if I could do more stars it would be millions if not more!) I look forward to reading more from Leah and can not wait to see what is in store for her!

Firstly, I would like to send a massive thank you for yet another opportunity to be an ARC reader for Leah Toole. Thank you so much, I have loved every moment!

I absolutely loved this book, and I’d argue it’s Leah Toole’s best book yet!

Usually I hate WW2 fiction because it’s done the most out of all eras, but Leah writes about the victims in such a personal way that you really feel like you walked through these atrocities with them.

This book definitely highlights the strength and resilience of people surrounding the war and holocaust, and just how beautiful life can be when we come together to help each other despite awful events.

Although not everyone has a happy ending there is a sweet finish to the book (that I won’t spoil) and I highly recommend this to everyone.

This has got to be the most beautiful, albeit most saddest book I have read to date. This is without a doubt, Leah Toole’s best book yet.
Each character has a gripping, and upsetting story - one of which gives us, the reader, a glimpse of the true horrors of WW2. But not only the horrors, but also the strengths of all of those who fought against evil.
Additionally, whilst it is a historical book, there is also a hint at thriller within. Let me just say, I was shocked at one of the twists (I won’t say anything, but be prepared to be completely shocked. Like I’m saying, you won’t see it coming.)
I am so pleased that Leah has written this book, because it truly is brilliant. However, I have absolutely sobbed like a baby throughout. Especially at the ending. Heartbroken, even now.
I highly recommend this book, for it will alter your entire perspective!! Incredibly gripping from start to finish.

Historical fiction based on true stories/accounts during the Second World War. As you can imagine, brutal and gritty imagery runs throughout the story with the depictions of the horrors of war. Yet alongside this is kindness, love, friendship and hope. Hope that the world will one day learn from its mistakes, and this hope carries through the intertwining narrative of all these character threads. Leah’s writing style is wonderfully engaging, and I always enjoy reading her work (despite the heartbreaks!)

All That Life is another powerful WWII historical fiction novel from Leah Toole. This is one of my favourite periods to read about, not because it’s easy, but because it’s so utterly unimaginable. No matter how many books I read on this topic, the horror and heartbreak never stop shocking me.

The story is told through multiple points of view, which I loved. It brings so much depth, showing the war from different sides and letting you feel the weight of it from all angles. Toole’s writing is beautiful and full of emotion, and she always finds fresh, compelling ways to approach difficult history.

What sets this one apart is the addition of a serial killer thread. It adds a dark, unexpected twist to an already harrowing story. There were so many moments where my heart was beating out of my chest! There’s also a touch of romance, which I always appreciate in historical fiction. It brings moments of tenderness without taking away from the gravity of the narrative.

This is a gripping, twisty, and deeply emotional read. So, so sad, but unforgettable. Leah Toole captures it all with care, imagination, and heart.

First off, Thank you so so much for another amazing opportunity to do an ARC read Leah, I can’t express how grateful I am to have been part of this!!

All That Life is a heartbreakingly beautiful historical fiction book based on true stories/events written by Leah Toole. Throughout this eye opening story we follow the lives of 4 people throughout WW2 who couldn’t be more different yet so alike, all united by their mutual disgust of the Nazi Party. We see the ins and outs of the Dutch resistance, concentration camps, the Hitler Youth, life of a Nazi Soldier and so more.

Leah voices the stories of these people and provides us with their inner thoughts. She shares the characters hurt and shows the brutal treatment certain groups faced at the hands of the Nazis. One of my personal favourites of this book is exploring the inner thoughts and perspective of a Nazi officer who is forced into his role and is disgusted by his party. I’ve never thought of this possibility and i’ve found it incredibly interesting to read about.

This book shows the raw truth of the atrocities of WW2 and by writing this book in such an intricate way, Leah reminds us of how important it is to never forget the pain felt by millions in the 1930s and 40s. We can see by Leah’s writing how passionate she is about this topic as well as how empathetic she is to all harmed by the Nazis. We are reminded throughout this book of the pure strength, resilience and unwavering determination of those who opposed Nazi rule. Leah has kept us all on the edge of our seats from start to finish with this book, the unexpected twists at every turn have caught me off guard every single time and are flawlessly written.

Congratulations on this incredible book Leah!! It’s got to be one of my favourite books and has been a pleasure to read. All the research you’ve done for this book has payed off a million times over. All That Life is a brilliant edition for anyone’s bookshelf and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Well done Leah!

Book Review: All That Life by Leah Toole

All That Life by Leah Toole is a richly layered novel that follows the intertwined lives of four characters during World War II. Each chapter is told from a different point of view, allowing readers to experience the war—and its emotional toll—through multiple, deeply human lenses.

Toole’s vivid imagery and emotional depth make this a powerful, immersive read. You don’t just observe the story—you feel it. The characters’ experiences are rendered with such intensity that the book lingers in your mind long after you put it down. Adding to the complexity, a gripping serial killer storyline is woven into the historical backdrop, raising the stakes and adding a chilling dimension to the narrative.

This isn’t a book I could read right before bed—the emotional weight and layered storytelling demand a bit more space and attention. But for readers who love historical fiction with psychological depth and unexpected twists, All That Life is a standout.

Different from the author’s typical subjects, this book is an intricately woven story about WWII told from several perspectives—including but not limited to a German soldier (who doesn’t really want to be there), sisters who join the Resistance, and a mysterious killer who isn’t immediately revealed.

It is very clear that this book was heavily and thoroughly researched, and I always love this author’s notes at the end that detail which parts of the story were true to life.

This story felt especially poignant right now. In the midst of the cruelty, horror, and outright injustice, there can still be moments of hope and love. Those are the things that give us the energy to keep fighting for change, after all.

It definitely had an un-put-downable quality and I’d recommend to anyone who’d like to read about WWII from perspectives we don’t always see (but are ever so important to telling the full story!). Thank you, Leah, for the ARC! 🫶

Leah Toole does it again with another amazing book! This one’s a bit different from her Tudor Heirs Series, it’s set during World War II and the Holocaust, so the topic is definitely heavier and more emotional. At times it was tough to get through just because of how heartbreaking the subject is, but it’s such an important part of history and Toole handles it really well.

I’m usually not a fan of books with multiple points of view, but she makes it work. The POV changes actually help move the story along and never feel confusing or out of place. Each character felt real and added something meaningful.

Overall, it’s a heavy read but worth it. The writing is great, the characters are strong, and it really sticks with you after you finish.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An emotional rollercoaster from start to finish.

This book had me hooked from the very first page. The twists and turns are completely unexpected and absolutely heart-wrenching. The character development is phenomenal—each one feels so real, and you experience every high and low right alongside them.

Told from multiple points of view, the story feels deeply immersive and personal. Leah gives a voice to characters affected by the Holocaust in a way that is both respectful and emotionally gripping. Their perspectives are haunting and powerful, shedding light on the unimaginable horrors they faced while also highlighting their resilience and courage.
I was especially moved by how the smallest acts of bravery made such a difference. Leah does a masterful job of showing the profound impact of resistance groups like the Dutch resistance in a way that is both inspiring and devastating, and it’s a perspective not often explored within WWII fiction.

A truly unforgettable and important read.

A WWII story with a thriller twist. This book is told by different perspectives. A German soldier who has sympathy for the Jewish community. Two young sisters become part of the Dutch Resistance. A young girl is thrown into Auschwitz after helping Jews in France. A young Jewish boy hides as a perfect German in the hitler youth. And… a mysterious person is killing people. I definitely enjoyed the twists in this book. The killers reveal was completely unexpected. The ending of this book was wholesome. I also love it when authors add an authors note at the end about the truths in stories and it is clear the author did a lot of research and stuck close to the facts, which I appreciate when it comes to WWII specifically. I enjoyed this book!

Leah had done it again!

I was lucky enough to be part of Leah’s ARC group for ‘All that life’.The stories are amazing and I guarantee you will cry.
The story is split into the different stories of people in WW2. it tells of their stories and how they are all different. It was really good to read from different perspectives.
One of the characters means a lot to me due to a personal connection to a family member who had to go through the same thing during the war.

As a history geek,I fully recommend Leah’s books 😊

Based in world war 2, this is a heart wrenching tale following different people, their different experiences and how WW2 affected them in different ways.

It’s an event we’re familiar with, Jews and various other people being discriminated and treated worse than vermin, by people who blindly followed one man and his twisted ideas.

This for me isn’t in my comfort zone. Although I am a lover of historical fiction, WW2 isn’t my go to. But I really enjoyed this. I’m not the emotional type, but the heartbreak kept coming in waves. You pray for a happy ever after… and they come close… but do they get that? I’ll let you read to find out. In the book, you will find hope, heart and emotion.

As I said, not in my comfort zone. But still a really good read. 4.5

This was not your easy romantic WWII book. It’s was gritty and dramatic and at times horrific. I loved how all the stories of multiple characters weave together and the outcome of each is uncertain. It was definitely like no other WWII historical fiction I’ve read and captivated me like Leah Toole always does.

Great historical fiction WWII book. This book has many different characters all with different stories of what happens to them during the holocaust to include a German soldier who has never accepted what the Nazi's did during the war. It was so interesting to read about all the different character's perspectives as they just try to survive the war. I think the author did a great job researching, the characters are strong and the writing makes you want to always see what happens.

I enjoyed the book.

Wow! ✨this book may be my favourite of Leah Toole’s so far and definitely up there in my favourite all time reads.
It’s a fascinating, heartbreaking tale set around the second word war - this author doesn’t shy away from the horrors of the time and as always she brings the characters to life giving them depth.
There is also a thriller aspect to this book which made it extremely intriguing. I devoured the start of this book but then read the last few chapters very slowly for several reasons 1. I was nervous about the endings for these characters I’d grown to love and 2. I wanted to savour every page.
Grab your tissues and enjoy the story 🤎

For a historical fiction lover, this book was outside my comfort zone as I’m not normally a reader of WWII historical fiction but as a lot of you know Leah is one of my favourite authors and the characters she writes about are really beautifully written and I love her style of writing. I also really enjoy the author notes in Leah’s books, as it really brings to light the research she has done.

This book follows 4 different people during the Holocaust that live in Germany, France and the Netherlands. I really loved these characters and their stories were all very different but intriguingly intertwined.

This book was definitely an emotional rollercoaster with twists and turns which I was not expecting and it kept me on the edge of my seat!

A fairly good read. I gave it three stars only because the first half of the book seemed choppy and disconnected, and never really came together.
